Chalkboard—Term 1 Week 3, 12th February 2020
ASSEMBLY THIS FRIDAY 2:30pm NO CLASS ITEM
Principal Message Dear Parents and Carers, Adopt a Knight This term I contacted the Newcastle Knights to see if
we could participate in their Adopt A Knight Program
… and we were successful! We have our very own
Newcastle Knights Player, Gehamat Shibasaki (Gem
for short) who will be working with our school
throughout 2020. He will come out to our school
approximately once a term and work with students
and teachers. He will be in the playground and our
classrooms. He will be at our school on the 3rd March.
I will keep you updated on what he will be doing
during his visits. We are so excited!
STEM Technologies We have a new Tablet Robotic Kit in our school and both the teachers and the students have
enjoyed the opportunity to use this equipment! Staff stayed back at school on Monday to use this
equipment and had a great time exploring all the possibilities for this equipment in the classroom.
Students who attended library this week have also had the opportunity to use this new equipment.
Miss Renna will also be opening our library on Tuesday and Wednesday at recess for students to
have additional opportunities to use STEM Technologies.
Enthusiastic Students It does not matter what time of day that you walk
into our classrooms you will see hard working and
dedicated students! Congratulations to all of our
classes for your effort and application to your
learning. This year everyone has been busy and I
have had so many students sharing their quality
work with me.
Book Packs Thank you to our families for the prompt purchasing your child’s book pack. Your child’s book pack contains all their stationery equipment they will require for the year. Additional equipment required will also be supplied by the school. The books included are specific to each class. A large cost of our book packs includes each child’s subscription to Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Maths Seeds (K-2). At our P&C Meeting last night it was a great opportunity to talk with parents about our book packs and explain further what is included in the cost of the book pack. We discussed the prices of internet software below: The value of the Mathletics Subscription for each child if purchased by parents is $99.00 The value of the Reading Eggs Subscription for each child if purchased by parents is $59.00 The value of the Maths Seeds Subscription for each child if purchased by parents is $59.95 Your child is able to use their password for these subscriptions at home as well.
Kindergarten Cuteness Our beautiful Kindergarten students have now been at school for a week and a half and I am amazed at how well they are all settling into school life. They are getting used to school routines and life in the classroom. They are enjoying time with their buddies; with our older buddies still tired at the end of the day! :) I have enjoyed many conversations with our kindergarten students and would like to share a couple. …… Last week as I was approaching the kindergarten verandah in the rain, a very caring Kindergarten said to me, “Don’t get wet Principal”. “Are you ok Principal?”. Today I was also informed by a parent about a conversation with their child about their day at
school. The Kindergarten student said, “In assembly Ms Noble was talking nonsense”. She was
quickly corrected by her older sibling saying, “Not nonsense, announcements”. I think I might
start writing a book with cute quotes!
Assembly Our Whole School Assembly begins this week for Years 1-6. Our Kindergarten Students will
attend their first assembly in Week 5 when they are attending school for full days. Mrs Selwood
will be running our assembly this week.
School Sport Our school sport starts this week. Please ensure notes and payments are made to the front office.
Please stay tuned for a survey that will be sent home soon about sporting preferences and options
for sport at HNPS. We would love to hear your feedback.
Swimming Carnival Our Swimming Carnival for Years 3-6 (including Year 2 students who are 8 years of age and can swim 50m) will be held on Monday 17th February at Wallsend Pool. Our previous permission note remains current. Should you wish to make changes to your child’s permission note please see the front office.
Our carnival will only be cancelled in the event of a storm. Zone Swimming Carnival is on the 19th February and we have to submit our swimming results immediately. If your child is eligible to go to Zone Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 19th they will need to
return their permission note immediately.
Parents and Citizens We had our first P&C meeting for 2020 on Monday night. I find this a great time to talk with parents on a variety of school items, gain feedback and work together.
Our next P&C meeting is our AGM and will be held on Monday 16th March at 6pm followed by normal P&C meeting. I would like to thank our P&C members that have filled the current positions, Frances Guest (President), Rich Ley (Secretary), Shelley Brandon (Treasurer), Danae Norrish and Nat Edwards (Fundraising). The dedication and commitment you have shown and continue to show towards our school, our students is outstanding! Thank you! A warm welcome to all parents and community to come along to our next P&C meeting.
Working Bee Our annual working bee will be on Friday 28th February (Week 5) from 3pm-6pm. There will be a
number of projects within the school. One project that has already
commenced is our garden at the front of the school. If anyone is available to
help our GA, Pete with this garden prior to our Working Bee we would
greatly appreciate your help and assistance. Once again, thanks to our
dedicated parents and grandparents.
I have had beautiful design ideas for our front garden – it is wonderful to
utilise the expertise of our parents and families! Again, a huge thank you
to Gary Archer for his dedication to our school! We are lucky to have you
helping in our school. Thanks to Nathan Topic for his handyman skills and continued
commitment to helping our school.
