Unfortunately, it was not only rain, there were several storms that did not let up. I would like to thank our students; the patience, resilience, responsibility and understanding you demonstrated throughout the day was outstanding! Thanks to our parents and families for your ongoing support throughout our carnival. Thanks to our teachers for your organisation and dedication that you demonstrate in organising events for our students, ensuring safety is of highest priority. A special thank you to Ms McInnes for your weeks and weeks of organisation. You did a marvellous job! Thanks to Mrs Selwood for your coordination and assistance with our carnival. Stay tuned for information about our Swimming Carnival in Term 4. Zone Swimming Carnival Zone Swimming Carnival was held today, and we are eagerly awaiting all results. Parent Information Sessions Thanks to our parents who were able to make it to our Parent Information Sessions on Monday evening. We highly value the partnerships between parents and school. As I have mentioned before: As Parents we hold the Master Key, as Teachers we hold the Spare Key. Therefore, it is paramount

we work together. If you were unable to attend the information sessions but would like to discuss information

presented on Monday, please contact your child’s teacher.

Working Bee We are looking forward to our Working Bee next Friday 28th March. If you

know you can come, please let the office know. It is always good to have an

indication on who can come as this will determine what is ordered (plants,

dirt, wood chip, and of course, sausages for our BBQ). If you are unsure of

your availability prior to the working bee that is ok, just turn up in the

afternoon if you can lend a hand.

Principal Conference I am at a Principal Conference today, Thursday and Friday. Our executive staff, Mrs Selwood and

Mrs White are available in my absence.

Quality Work Congratulations to our beautiful students below.

Mathematicians who have a growth mindset!

Wonderful Writers who are very proud of their

work!

Well Done!

Maths Champs Our Maths Champs competition is fast approaching and the excitement is

building! Students have received their ‘help’ sheets from their teacher.

Our SkoolBag App A reminder to families that we have a SkoolBag App. The SkoolBag

App is free and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google

instant and important messages about school information and events.

After the app is downloaded search for Hamilton North Public School.

Attendance at school is of paramount importance! Regular attendance and engagement in school is strongly linked to the likelihood of students experiencing success in learning. Students who have poor patterns of attendance are at risk of not achieving their potential and are disadvantaged in the quality of choices they are able to make in later life. Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

being sick or having an infectious disease

having an unavoidable medical appointment

being required to attend a recognised religious holiday

exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral

Explanations for absences should be received by the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student’s record. Kind Regards Ms Lisa Noble Principal

Our school library has been abuzz alongside the start of the new year. With new books, technology, arts and crafts there is something for everyone…

STEM / TECH NEWS

We have been making excellent use of our STEM share tablet robotics kits. These include Lego WeDo and Dash robots. All students will be experiencing both together with apps that instil problem solving and coding skills. If you have any

questions or want to see the technology for yourself please feel free to pop into the library on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning prior to school commencing. Visiting the library… We had many children borrow books last week. Please remember that on your child’s library day, they must bring a bag in order to borrow books. Between 8:30-9am, on both days, the library is open for your children to return their books and borrow. We ask that all returns are placed in the return basket at the library entrance PRIOR to school starting at 9am.

P&C News Please see the survey information and request from the office of Tim Crakanthorp MP. As students headed back to school for 2020 I launched the Newcastle School Safety Survey, where parents, carers, school staff and local residents have the opportunity to raise safety concerns they have around Newcastle’s schools. The feedback I receive will then be used to lobby the NSW Government and City of Newcastle for improvements to traffic infrastructure around your school. This could range from pedestrian refuges, to changes to parking conditions, to something as simple as moving signage. No idea is too big or too small and I welcome all feedback. A Heart Foundation survey found that less than one third of Australian parents believed it was safe for their children to walk or ride to school, with factors in that belief including concerns about traffic volume and a lack of safe routes. As a re-sult, 64 per cent of surveyed parents reported driving their children to school most days. We know how important it is for our children to lead healthy lifestyles and selecting active transport options to travel to and from school supplements this, but safety always needs to come first. This is why I need to know what can be done to encourage more kids out of cars and onto the pavement. The survey can be completed online at www.nswschoolsafety.com/Newcastle and closes on Friday 13 March 2020. If you have any questions or would like more information please don’t hesitate to con-tact my office on 4926 1126 or [email protected]. Yours Sincerely Tim Crakanthorp MP
