Yet another year has flown past and we’re pleased to say 2013 has seen Hamilton House move forward in leaps and bounds. We’ve had a full referbishment of our foyer, a full refit of the Community Kitchen, a refreshing

paint job in our hotdesking & co-working suite (as well as the introduction of a whole host of plants), a brand spanking new website, and a 27 foot Breakdancing Jesus pop up on the Canteen wall!

In 2013 Hamilton House had an open day celebrating the project, the building and

everyone involved. In-House created two wonderful pop up shops, and there were loads of amazing events, workshops, courses & classes. A highlight was the

introduction of an exhibition space for the ‘Artist Of The Month’ artists to display their work in The Canteen.

This year we look forward to a timetable of exciting Community Kitchen workshops and much, much more. If you’re not regularly reading the Hamilton House programme join us on Facebook & Twitter (@coexistcic #ItGoesOnHere) to

keep up-to-date with what’s on.

Sick of paying for repairs, want to know more, or just tired of that squeaking sound that your chain keeps making? This is for

you! Bring your bike to fix, clean or just to give it a check over. This is an open workshop session run by women for women, to share knowledge of bicycle maintenance in a friendly, informal atmosphere and through learning by doing.

If you don’t have your own bike, or your bike is in perfect condition, you are still welcome to come by – there are plenty of bikes at the

Project that need fixing up and you can work or learn on these. Of course, if you work on bikes for the project, there is no charge.

This is an open workshop, so drop in any time between 6pm and 9pm, no need to book a space.

The Good, The Bad, The Funk Thats ‘Bad’ as in ‘Baaaaaad’ and ‘Funk’ as in ‘What for you sitting down?’ They’ve got the beats and the chops - you bring those dancing feet.

Fri3

Damn Busters + Dj Ewan Hoozami Accomplished bluesmeister Kirris Riviere takes a swinging detour into jazzier territory thanks to Ev Newman’s swirling Wurlitzer and the fine flowing double bass of Joe Allen.

Sat4

Stackshakers + Dj Pete Cunningham Halfway between Kingston and the Mississippi delta is where The Smokestack Shakers must have hauled up their sound. Imagine Muddy Waters meets King Tubby

Sun5

Mamadou Cissoko + B-Sides Hailing from the famous Cassamanca region of Senegal, Modou’s roots lie in the Griot traditions of his family, a tradition that shows whether he’s singing, drumming or playing mesmerising music on the kora.

Mon6

Canteen Jazz Session An open jazz jam session for seasoned players to join the house trio and others in exploring classic jazz & latin tunes.

Tues7

Mike Dennis Mike Dennis comes at hip-hop from both sides - he’s deeply immersed in the whole betaking thing, digital style, and yet he also knocks up a pretty decent rhyme or two with which to embellish his tracks. He’s also Grade 8 on the violin, which can be surprisingly relevant.

Wed8

The Play If you know about the Zen Hussies, Bartoune, Freight, or Dakhla then you’ll need no persuading to check out this four-strong team of familiar faces.

Thur9

Ritmo Salski When hard bopping jazz met urgent Cuban dance music in the downtown clubs of New York it made for a heady brew of hot rhythms and high energy solo playing. That’s the groove this bunch catch and use to refresh tunes ‘from Hendrix to Britney’.

Fri10

Troyka + Dj Vlad Strip down the Balkan sound and what do you get? Soaring melodic instrumentals, passionate vocals and relentless rhythm. Astonishingly, four-piece big band.

Sat11

Fitty Gomash +Dj Belafonte Ripsnorting traditional folk dance music from the Celtic fringes all cranked up to get you stripping the willow until you can strip no more.

Sun12

Al Fresco Trio + B-Sides Another quirky offshoot from the sizzling musical cauldron that is Sheelanagig, this street-corner threesome pick’n’mix their way through a riotous grab bag of jazz and swing standards.

Mon13

Twelve Months of Summer: feat. Rosina Buck, Backlit Canopy & Sam Evans Trio Here’s the first of the regular acoustic evenings that will be hosted by the straight-talking singer-songwriter Rosina Buck with a whole host of talented guests.

Tues14

Molly Samson & The Cautionary Tales Nifty finger-picking guitarist and songstress Molly Samson bedecks her wistful and eloquent songs with strings and drums thanks to her trio of acoustic accomplices.

Wed15

Le Skeleton Band This post-rock trio come from the other Montpellier - the one in France - with a swampy Gallic Waits-ishness that hovers between Jacques Brel and the Alabama 3

Talisman They made their name in the 80s conscious reggae scene and the reformed Talisman are still true to those roots but they’ve also moved on and the new tunes have a fresh energy that belies their veteran status.

Crinkle Cuts + Dj Typesun Lively 8-piece combo making a fine mix of old-school chops and modern musical ideas shaking up ska, funk and reggae into a snappy and satisfying ridge-cut snack feast.

Sat18

The Duval Project + DJ Mango Park This combo pulled together by trumpeter Gary Alesbrook recalls his time with Lynden David Hall and other contemporary R’n’B artists with a super tight rhythm section and the spot-on vocal talents of Marie Lister bringing his compelling soul-jazz compositions to highly danceable life.

Sun19

Eyebrow + B-Sides Supercool ambient jazz project with Pete Judge’s multi-looping trumpet and Paul Wigens’ groove-rooted drumming tightly woven into spacious soundscapes and explorations.

Mon20

Canteen Jazz Session An open jazz jam session for seasoned players to join the house trio and others in exploring classic jazz & latin tunes.

Tues 21

The Schmoozenbergs Don’t know where they got that monicker from but they got the music from gypsy campfires and Paris cafes where the name Django has nothing to do with Tarrantino.

Wed 22

Organ3man It all starts with the Hammond organ and Ev Newman’s flying fingertips across the keys, or maybe it’s the hardcore funk drumming of Anthony ‘Errol’ Flynn. It could even be Joe Allen, hitting the groove with his jazz-blues double bass riffology, but it’s probably the chemistry between all three that make this lot so cool.

Thur 23

Three London Planes Add jangling guitars and close harmony vocals to psychedelically folkish songs and what have you got? Either a time-warp back to The Byrds circa 1967 or this Bristol folk-rock threesome.

Fri 24 Babilondon + Dj Dad this London-based reggae collective has a loose rocking dub style destined to fill the festival backfields once the summer comes.

Sat 25 Hot Tin Roofs + Dj Blind Bat Stylish sextet exploring the point where swing met jump blues and rock and roll began to take shape - think Slim Harpo, Ruth Brown and that kind of hipster.

Sun 26 The Messengers + B-Sides Homage to the great US drummer Art Blakey’s and his Jazz Messengers playing that hard-bopping hothouse little big band sound.

Mon 27

Harriet Rock Both as a visual artist and a singer/performer Harriet Rock wants to catch your attention. Check out her moody reinvention of ‘Knocking On Heaven’s Door’ and you’ll hear something new.

Tues 28

Clayton Blizzard Folk-rapper and self-styled ‘cheeky little brother’ Clayton Blizzard makes the true folk music of Bristol’s 21st century streets. Rich in imagination and absolutely honest in all his dealings there’s a solidly entertaining streak running through his work. Check out ‘Everything We Do Is A Dance Move’ Then check out the books he admits to ripping it all out of!

Wed 29 Phatic Here’s a cool new jazz combo playing a breezy electric style full of melody and imagination brought to you by the melodic guitar meistro James Ladd.

Thur 30

Bombs With Bombs there’s some kind of triangulation going on between turntablism, electronica and good old fashioned rocky rock - and it works. Moments of stadium glory slip into moody street numbers and even smoky nightclubs get a look in.

Fri 31

Fromage en Feu + Area Boys Lively bunch of Europhiles romp their way through tunes from Klezmer to café culture via the Balkans. In pursuit of giving audiences a good time Fromage En Feu are unafraid to tackle even the most challenging of European traditional music. They’re a bunch of very talented musicians, however, so success is guaranteed.
