What is Halogen-Free?

In recent years, the awareness of environmental issues has grown worldwide and everyday use products are increasingly required to meet the most stringent safety standards.

In the soldering process, halogens are often used inside the flux activation system. Through a chemical reaction, halogens help to remove metal oxides from the solder and the metal sur-faces to be soldered.

Some chemicals containing halogens are known to release dioxins when chemically altered. For example, automotive exhaust and even some types of plastic packaging used for food stor-age may release dioxins during incineration. Of course, reducing the release of these highly toxic materials is a primary health and environ-mental concern.

Senju has been a leader in the development and supply of the environmentally friendly ECO-SOLDER lead-free products and is now present-ing a range of products meeting the Halogen-Free requirements.

Solder Paste S70G-HF for Halogen Free SolderingOur Eco Solder Paste S70G-HF is the enhanced version of the Eco Solder Paste S70G minimizing flux spatter and insufficient fusion in BGAs.

❶Solid compounds of the flux contain less than 900ppm of each Chloride and Bromide, a total maximum of 1500ppm in halogens.

❷ Improving BGA bump wettability❸Compared to conventional products 50–80% reduction of flux spatter, the main

cause of electric connectivity problems etc. in component connectors leads?❹Significant reduction of voids
