About Halloween• Halloween, also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly celebration

observed in a number of English-speaking countries on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of  All Saints.

• Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (also known as "guising”), attending costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

• The traditions and importance of Halloween vary greatly among countries that observe it. In Scotland and Ireland, traditional Halloween customs include children dressing up in costume going "guising", holding parties, while other practices in Ireland include lighting bonfires, and having firework displays. Mass transatlantic immigration in the 19th century popularized Halloween in North America, and celebration in the United States and Canada has had a significant impact on how the event is observed in other nations. This larger North American influence, particularly in iconic and commercial elements, has extended to places such as South America, Australia, New Zealand, (most) continental Europe, Japan, and other parts of East Asia.

Our teachers – Ms. Petia Dencheva, Ms. Miroslava Georgieva, Ms. Katia Zamfirova and Ms. Elena Petrova –decorated the hall. Vilia Krumova, the Head teacher of the Language department, and

Tsvetelina Vagliarska, the Head of the Children’s Centre, were our guests and jury.

We were separated in teams of four. The event started with the Jack-o-Lantern game. We had to make as many words as we could using the letters in Jack-o-Lantern for 3 minutes. 9b-team was the winner

in this game. They got their prizes and it was time for the second game.

Then we had to fill in the missing words in a Halloween Story. Two teams had equal results – the teams of class 9b and class 10b. There were prizes for them too. They got magazines and books in English.

Then we had a Halloween quiz competition. The best team was class 8b. They were given prizes for their great

job.

The costume competition, which was eagerly awaited, followed. A lot of students had done their best to look like famous characters from

books, fairy tales, stories.

The jury had difficulties appointing the best costume, so they gave two first prizes. The one was given to Stefani from class 10b (who was a princess) and the other was given to our guest Natali from class 11a

(who was a witch).

Next the participants made mummies using toilet paper. 10 b team was the fastest.

At the end we made Scarecrows.

The jury could not decide which was the best scarecrow, so all the teams got prizes for this final competition.

Some of the eager competitors had carved pumpkins into Jack-o-Lanterns. They were scary and nice.

We all had a lot of fun.
