Picnic Mystery Rally' was organised for the following month of August.. This time the mystery destination was Chipperfield Common with an Animal Safari in the woods to amuse the children.

Our energetic fledgling Functions Committee were so brimming in confidence that we were able hold our first Grand Buffet & Dance at the Skyway Hotel at London Airport, with a live Band & Cabaret - all for £2-10 shillings a head (£2.50 lo the youngsters).

This first year revealed an incredible amount of activities. both spiritual and social. The Ladies Guild had regular meeting; the Functions Committee organised social activities including outings for families and the annual dance, even an evening entitled 'Bingo at Bensons' where one could win a fortune (maximum prize 10/-). There were children's activities for several age groups. a Young Adults group for the 17 - 25 year olds, Adult Hebrew Classes, Bridge Oub, Membership Drives. We even hosted a Civic Service for the new Mayor of Harrow.

Hakol at this time consisted of about 7 pages of roneod foolscap. (Roneo an obsolete, messy fonn of copying using wax stencils and lots of ink, Foolscap - an extinct size of paper superseded by the metric A sizes fonnat)

197 t New Penny and New Religion School The new year saw both the start of our Religion School under its Head Mistress, Celia Rapp and the advent of the new Decimal Currency in February.

Goodbye to shillings and pence. The first appearance of the new currency in Ha.kol was in an advert for a Decimal Day Disco on February 13th at the Wembley Liberal Synagogue. This celebrated the introduction of the new currency with the entrance price of 99np (op denoting new pence)

Social and Religious Activities continued apace with our first Communal Seder (£2 per adult including a traditional poultry

Bazaar. Nearly New Sale, and regular activities for the Ladies Guild.

A Cultural Committee was inaugurated in October under the chairmanship of Gerald Walters.

Postal Strike Hits Hakol Alas in the days before fax and email. the lengthy postal strike of 1971 cause major communication problems necessitating a joint February & March issue of Ha.kol and the cancellation of a planned Riverboat Cruise.
