HAIRY MOUTH

...The Best New Music, Now

Page 2: Hairy Mouth | TWO

For the first time since 2010 Hairy Mouth has had somebody, other than myself, contribute their thoughts and opinions about the music they love. Yep, we’ve had a contributor.

Now that may not sound very exciting, but it is. Beacuse it means that I‘m not alone with my obsession to discover and share exciting new music. Plus this is something I hope will continue, so if you’d like to get involved, keep in touch and let me know what you think.

I hope you like what you read/hear/see.

Thanks,Rob

Note: The cover image is mine. All other images used are not. I’m just here to write some nice things about the music I enjoy. Please don’t sue me...

Why don’t you stalk me..?

KINSFor such a small city, Brighton has easily got one of the most diverse and vibrant music scenes outside of London. The fact that The Great Escape festival takes place there each year surely proves that. But with so much talent crammed into one area, where do you start..?

We recommend you take a look at Kins. Their impressive tone is in a similar vein to the mighty Wild Beasts, but where they differ, they prevail. The ‘less-is-more’ approach that’s apparent in the bands finely tuned songwriting provides you with a stunning listening experience, and new track ‘Pale Faced Fear’ is a fine introduction. Smothered in a heavenly echo, the song gently builds to a glorious arrangement of rolling beats and smooth vocals that you wont soon forget.

Their EP is free, we suggest you download it now.

Listen to: ‘Pale Faced Fear’ & ‘Aimless’.

There are good bands and there are bad bands. And then there’s Kins...

Pet Sounds by Beach Boys

Première consultation by Doc Gyneco

Stone Roses by Stone Roses

White Album by The Beatles

Low byDavid Bowie

Dream like swirls of electric guitars and an almost overly-harmonised collection of vocals make up the majority of Alba Lua’s magnifi cent sound. The four-piece have been crafting their shimmery Indie-pop from several years now, and with the release of their impressive new album entitled Inner Seasons, you’d be a fool not to take note. And with a noticeable range of infl uences to be found throughout the record we thought that we would ask the band about their Top 5 Favourite Albums Of All Time. So whilst you’re reading that, why not give them a spin.

Listen to: ‘She’s Got A Crush On You’ & ‘Permanent Vacation’.

CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENSChristine and the Queens is the name stage of singer songwriter Heloïse Letissier. The 25-year-old theatre graduate draws her inspiration from transvestite performers she befriended while in London and it's live that her music makes the most sense. Alone on stage (the "queens", as she calls them, never took up her invitation to join the band), her energy is fantastic - she throws incredible dance moves, jumps, twirls, strips (jacket, cardigan) and she has even been known to shower herself in glitter on occasion.

“I never thought of French music as being exciting. Growing up, I hardly listened to anything French at all. Instead, I placed my musical education in the safe hands of bands like The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, The Smiths, and later The Strokes and The Libertines.

Coming back to France after six years in the UK, I assumed nothing good had come out of my home country whilst I was away. But then I turned on the radio...” - NAOUEL ZENAIDI

FAUVEFauve is a bit like Marmite - intense and sharp-flavoured. You either love or hate them. The 20-somethings describe themselves as a "music collective" on a mission against fucked-up relationships, hate and shame. Using explicit lyrics and spoken words amongst a backdrop of electro-pop, they talk about sex, love, friendship and disillusion. If you're of the reckless, broken-hearted type, you'll like the Fauve phenomenon.

Listen To: ‘Les nuits fauves’ & ‘Kané’.

BADEN BADENSince starting out in 2008, the Parisian quatuor has mastered the art of melodic pop and signed to Naïve, releasing their first LP at the end of last year. Singing both in English and in French, Baden Baden deliver hypnotic melodies that make the perfect soundtrack to a never-ending summer holiday spent in the company of friends. Have a listen and press repeat.

Listen To: ‘You’ll see’ & ‘La descente’.
