Junior Golf Passport Registration Form

Catch Up SessionsWe appreciate the demands on your time and so as an opportunity to ensure your son/daughter can attend 10 sessions we offer Catch Up sessions on Sundays 11.00am - 12.00pm and Tuesdays 4.30pm - 5.30pm.

PGA coaches will be available to ensure that junior golfers maintain their progress from week to week.

A large part of our sessions will be based on Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) improving children’s awareness and abilities around balance, agility and coordination. As these improve we blend in golf and other similar activities as a set of Specific Movement Skills (SMS). Based on many years of experience working at golf clubs and schools we believe this is the most effective and FUN way to introduce golf to children. Put simply we believe that we should develop all around athletic ability first, golf second.

On completing all START elements your child will move onto the LEARN section of the Junior Golf Passport.

Examples of Junior Golf Passport LEARN outcomes:

- Created a simple putting routine - Able to control different length

pitch shots - Make a full swing in balance - Played a short course and marked

a score card - Understand how to prepare for a golf session - Understand and demonstrated stability, strength and control - Demonstrate sportsmanship during a session

All elements of the Junior Golf Passport contain reference to the Golf Roots ‘Skills for Life’ ethos. In every session we will explicitly relate tasks to life skills such as honesty, respect, concentration, perseverance, cooperation, and safety.

Once all LEARN elements of the Junior Golf Passport are complete juniors progress to the PLAY section.

Examples of Junior Golf Passport PLAY outcomes:

- Successfully complete a 9 hole putting course - Play a well struck bunker shot - Complete a shot selection skills challenge - Complete on course rules quiz - Understand the importance of the whole

body in golf - Assist in the delivery of a coaching session

Our coaching sessions will be delivered mostly on the driving range however at least two sessions in every 10 week block will introduce children to the golf course and club house. We know how important it is to excite children with the prospect of golf on the course and how much motivation this gives them during coaching.

When can my child join the golf club?

Junior Golf Passport coaching will include regular on course assessment by your PGA coach. These activities and assessments enable your child and PGA coach to monitor progress and decide when it is right to join the club. This decision will mean that you, your child and PGA coach believe they are ready to enjoy fully the opportunities junior golf club membership offers.

Club membership means they will be given the opportunity of almost unlimited play on the golf course for less than £150 per year. Plus they will be able to play in competitions and could represent the golf club in team matches. It is the goal of our Junior Academy to graduate as many children to junior members as possible. We expect that junior members that come through this development programme will be active and take full advantage of the opportunities golf club membership has to offer.

Does coaching continue once my child joins the golf club?

Absolutely! Continued development and improvement becomes an even bigger responsibility once children have decided to join the golf club. As PGA coaches we believe it is vital for us to maintain the interest and enthusiasm of our junior members. To keep this up we offer a junior members only subsidised ‘Club Members Ready’ 10 week coaching block for £30.00. This will again include Fundamental Movement Skill awareness and physical literacy practices also sessions on competition preparation and on course advice.

We have many of our junior members representing the County at various levels and some are part of National squads. It is no coincidence that these juniors have followed this programme/or something very similar over the past few years. We believe our Junior Academy as described above offers the opportunity for children to enter the game of golf in an enjoyable learning environment based on their specific requirements.

How do I start my child in golf?We offer well-structured coaching to suit the needs of all children.Our Golf Roots ‘Turn-Up’ group coaching sessions are the ideal way to introduce children to our coaching programme. Using fast, fun game formats children from 5 to 12 years old can attend these sessions as a taster for further coaching. Our PGA qualified coaches also use these sessions to recommend the appropriate level for your child to begin our 10 week coaching programmes.

These sessions run on Sunday mornings 11-12, £8.00 including equipment and balls.

What about more regular coaching?As a Golf Roots Centre we run the Junior Golf Passport national learning programme. We use this programme to place our juniors into START, LEARN and PLAY groups.Progress will be monitored in the Junior Golf Passport booklet and online resource www.juniorgolfpassportplus.org. Certificates and wrist bands will be awarded as tasks are completed. The Junior Golf Passport’s online resource also has fun guides for practice and loads of useful information for children and parents alike.

Junior Golf Passport – START The Start elements of the Junior Golf Passport are ideal for those new to the game or with little experience. Using fast, fun and interactive games it will introduce all the basic skills and knowledge required for children to begin to grow into their own golf game.
