INSTALLATION AND FABRICATION

2.1 The installer shall submit typical construction details for approval to the Architect or Engineer prior to fabrication and installation of materials.

2.2 All framing components shall be cut square unless an angular fit is required between components.

2.3 Service slots where specified must not be positioned less than 600mm from stud ends or 300mm from joist ends.

2.4 All fixings shall be in accordance with structural calculations and as indicated on the drawings.

2.5 Track section shall be fixed to a uniform and level bearing face and abutting track section shall be fixed to a common structural element.

2.6 Track section shall not extend more than 25% of its section web width beyond the bearing surface to which it is attached.

2.7 Stud sections shall be plumb and fixed to track sections in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

2.8 Openings shall be formed to include cills, lintels, jambs and supporting studs as detailed.

2.9 Where necessary to achieve a satisfactory structural framework in accordance with the drawing the use of temporary bracing may be necessary.

2.10 All Slip-Klips, blocking and bracing components as shown on the drawing are to be provided to resist lateral and torsional buckling of studs or joists.

FASTENERS

HADLEY STEEL FRAMING light gauge steel framingcomponents are suitable for use in manyconstruction applications. Typically they areinter-connected or connected to either hot rolledsteel or a concrete primary structure. Fasteningmethods include self drilling and/or self tappingscrews, powder actuated direct fastenings, resin orexpansion anchors, bolts, self piercing rivets andclinching. Hadley’s close association with leadingfastener suppliers enables us to offer assistance inthe site application of fasteners - includingpre-installation training and structural testing.

Fastenings and all applicable recommendations formpart of our structural design package and are integralto the final design specification issued prior toinstallation. Whenever practical and always subjectto structural design considerations, Hadley’sengineers will work closely with clients andinstallers to accommodate their preferred fastenersupplier(s).

All HADLEY STEEL FRAMING cold roll-formedsection is manufactured from pre-galvanised“structural grade” steel to BS EN 10326:2004 andcomplying to minimum specified values.

A lightweight and highly versatile solution to seatingsupport structures. Eminently suited to new build orrefurbishment projects that have limited site accessor restrictions on foundation loading.

The support structure utilises cold roll-formedcolumns and beams supplied as individualpre-engineered components ready for site assembly.

Lightweight cold roll-formed sections combined withfabricated hot rolled steel extends the scope of thissolution to larger structures.

Project specific design criteria may be satisfied byspecifying either a timber or a steel and concretecomposite floor deck.

continuous externalframing system

HADLEY STEEL FRAMING - Continuous System iseminently suitable for buildings where the floor areaneeds to be maximised. Cleats are attached to the outerfaces of the floor slabs using fixings determined bystructural calculations. The continuous vertical sections are in turn attached tothe FC Series cleats using appropriate fixings locatedthrough slotted holes to facilitate deflection within thefloor slabs.Continuous infill system vertical sections are suppliedin full height lengths up to a maximum of 16 metres.Consideration should be given to site access, handlingand erection of long lengths of vertical sections. Wheresplicing of section is necessary, please consultHADLEY STEEL FRAMING for assistance.A number of Cill, Lintel and Jamb configurations areavailable to suit various design criteria.

HADLEY STEEL FRAMING - Continuous Systemis designed to carry lateral wind loads only. Theseloads are transferred from the outer cladding to theprimary structure via the cleat connections.

Vertical movement due to deflection within the floorslabs is catered for by slotted holes in the cleats, therefore external cladding weightmust be supported from a suitablestructural member designed to carrythese vertical loads. Where buildings exceed3 storeys in height additional vertical load supportsmay be necessary in accordance with structuralcalculations.

The lower end of the vertical stud sections shouldbe connected to a suitable support member tocarry the vertical weight of the stud section togetherwith attached insulation material, internal finishes, windows, exterior cladding (not masonry) etc. inaccordance with structural calculations.

continuous externalframing system

Theseloads are transferred from the outer cladding to theprimary structure via the cleat connections.

non continuousinfill walling system

HADLEY STEEL FRAMING Non-Continuous InfillSystem creates a steel framed structural stud and tracksystem suitable for use in construction projects whereconventional blockwork might be considered. Our lightweight ‘dry’ system offers savings in materialweight, construction time and labour requirements.

The system is fixed between primary structuremembers and is generally located at the ‘slab edge’ tofacilitate the fixing of insulation and external claddingmaterials which can run continuously outside the mainstructure if desired.HADLEY STEEL FRAMING full height stud sectionsare located and screw fixed via the flanges to shallowfloor track section, itself fixed to the floor slab withfixings and intervals determined by structuralcalculations. The deep track head section is similarlyfixed to the underside of the upper floor slab.Deflection within the primary structure is facilitated bya 25-35mm gap between the stud and head track whichtypically allows a stud/head track bearing of 35-45mm.As the stud is not fixed at the head track interface it isnecessary to restrain the stud sections to resist lateraland torsional movement. Our solution is the use of aSlip-Klip deflection head clip, screw fixed to the headtrack at every stud position. This method permits the use of reduced thickness headtrack and minimises both material and fixing time overconventional blocking methods. If blocking is utilised,it should be fixed between the end pairs of studs andbetween every fourth pair.

A number of Cill, Lintel and Jamb configurations areavailable to suit various design criteria.

Services slots (100mm x 35mm) where specified aretypically located 600mm from the ends of stud sectionsto facilitate the passage of services within the wallcavity. It is recommended that consideration is given toprotecting services where they pass through serviceslots against any sharp edges that may occur.
