Welcome to Haddon & District Community House for 20 13 !

The Haddon & District Community House aims to provide a range of educational, social and recreational activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. While all effort is

made to proceed with advertised activities it is not always possible if enrolments do not generate the funds required

to cover the costs of tutors and room hire. Please note that business and corporate rates may differ

from the prices included in this program. Please check with the Manager for these rates.

We can tailor a course to your business needs and we are always happy to discuss this with you.

We take enrolments Tuesday to Friday, between 10am and 3:30pm. We hope that everyone in the community has started

off the year as wonderful as we have. We have had an amazing response to all of the courses, including the new courses on offer. We are very excited to announce the celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the Northern Community House, which opened on the 29th of April 2003. We are very proud and grateful for everyone who has contributed to make this building such a warm and welcoming place. We wish to invite the community to help celebrate this astounding occasion on the 4th of May 2013.

The House has provided over the years numerous course and activities for the community. We hope to assist you in becoming job or study ready; or satisfy your personal study/career goals. Maybe you just want to explore a new “creative you”, so try our mosaics, card making or quilting classes we can help. We can even help you learn how to relax or get fit with yoga and art/mediation classes. Whatever your requirement we look forward to being able to assist you in your quest!

We are proud to offer a large range and variety of courses and activities for all ages. The quality of our trainers and tutors are the backbone of our high standards, reputation and accomplishments by our students. We have dedicated and caring staff that ensure classes stay small so that they are able to focus individually on each and every student.

Undertaking further education, even in latter life assists with self-esteem and broadens horizons and assists to provide great opportunities. Learning is not only for job seekers but essential for our continual need for self-improvement.

So take the time to look through our Second Term Course Guide and book early, as there are often very limited numbers. If there is a course you would like to see at the House just let us know and we will do our best to try to offer it in the second half of the year.

Places will not be held unless fees are paid or a deposit received and payment plan arranged. • Refunds cannot be given once a class has commenced or at least 5 business days notice is provide as we are committed to pay course costs. • Refunds will be given if the class is cancelled for any reason. • Prospective students should be aware that some courses/ activities may not proceed if there are insignificant numbers to cover operational costs. • Concession rates apply where indicated and only on presentation of a current concession card.• Notification will given only when classes are cancelled or rescheduled. Accredited course fulfills the requirements for those needing this qualification for their workplace or for their role as a volunteer. Students successfully completing this training will receive the nationally recognised certificate. Courses can be organised.

ONLINE COURSE ~ course can be done online or bycorrespondence delivered by registered training organisation,“CFT International.” Please contact us to enrol. This course covers all the necessary skills & knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(ies), the incident & other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This course is eligible for Austudy or Youth Allowance should you apply to Centrelink and is recognised Australia wide! Gain experience in basic patternmaking, design and sewing skills. On successful completion of this course you will receive a accredited certificate from the College of Fashion Design.

This course is eligible for funding & interviews will be conducted to assist students with funding eligibility. Students will receive support with pathways to further study in the next level Certificate courses or employment.

This course is eligible for funding and interviews will be conducted in February to assist with eligibility. Covers the preferred minimum training requirements for salon employment and apprenticeships, and is a prerequisite training for Certificate III in Hairdressing.

This course is ideal for absolute beginners and for those with very little experience. A great class to take the fear and mystery out of learning basic computer skills. Become confident and comfortable using a computer in a relaxed and friendly environment. Small classes ensure personal attention.

This course builds upon the skills gained from the ‘Introduction to Computers’ course and is suitable for: •Anyone with few computer skills wanting to develop them •Anyone wanting to upgrade their computer skills for work or leisure•Anyone wanting to increase job opportunities •Anyone wanting to undertake further educationGain confidence in using Microsoft Office programs; Work, Outlook, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint necessary for obtaining a job. Also gain experience working with Internet Explorer. NOTE: Courses for each subject run for 9 weeks - 36 hours in total (including 4 hours homework) and if you only need to, or would like to do only one or two individual subjects let us know so as we can arrange that for you.

This class is the next stop beyond basic computers for those who need to expand upon their skills after beginners level. We have two levels available and you can follow on with the second level at the completion of the first one next term if you wish.Course fees are payable/applicable for both levels of course.

Suitable for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of MYOB software; including small business owners and employees. You must have sound computer skills. You will learn how to set up a data file and do basic, everyday bookkeeping including the creation of customer and supplier cards, how to create invoices, receive payments, record purchases and make payments to suppliers.

These sessions are aimed at all ages. Have you struggled with computers before? Then now is the time to test drive a tablet as they are very easy to use. Try before you buy or learn how to use your own and their many features. (Limited number available in-house for use by class participants). The course will provide learners with basic skills; how to access & buy apps, develop confidence in setting up and managing emails & internet accounts, web searching, online purchases, time management, setting up calendars/schedules, ect.

KNOW YOUR COMPUTER 101This course helps to provide basic and beyond assembly and repair skills for computer hardware and operating systems. Introduces basic electrical/electronic concepts. Learn the functionality of hardware and software components and best practise in maintenance and safety issues.

Do you need help with getting back into the workforce or study?Then this course is for you as it is designed to assist anyone with resume writing, interview techniques and communication skills, personal grooming, self esteem and confidence building, motivations and goal setting, work and study options and to help you prepare for work and/or study options. Upon the successful completion of an introduction class, participants may be able to then enrol in an Accredited Certificate courses now being offered at the Haddon and District Community House or by other educational institutions. These pre accredited courses are great for people not yet ready to commit to enrol in a long course, or not really sure of the a career choice and would like to try some options before deciding, or for those needing to build some confidence because they have not studied for a while. You may have heard of the NBN and how it is going to change the way both large and small companies are going to do business in the not to distant future. But what exactly will the NBN’s faster internet speeds mean for you and your busi-ness, and which technologies should you be thinking about using to be business-ready for the future. Our trainer will show you how to create quality videos about your prod-ucts and services, share technical and practical case studies so you can broadcast yourself.

Haddon and District Community House will provide free

training to small-to-medium businesses and non-profit

organisations to help understand how they can improve

their online presence and take advantage of the NBN.

We will run two hour group information sessions that

primarily will be held at the Community House and

the Well, Smythesdale and possibly can be organised

at your venue. A very important advantage of these

training sessions is that once an organisation/business

has attended one or more group information sessions,

they will be entitled to 4 hours of one-to-one customised

training to assist them in taking advantage of the online

opportunities enabled by the NBN. The one-to-one

training will take place in a face-to-face session at the

participant’s place of business (or other suitable location)

and will cover areas of specific interest that will benefit

the business/organisation’s online presence. In addition

some on going support will provided via email and access

to tailored online resources.

Dropbox is a great online tool which allows you to store your files, photos, etc so that they are accessible to you wherever you are as long as you can access the internet. You can synchronise your dropbox to files and folders on your computer so that any changes you make to either a file in dropbox or in your computer is automatically updated in both places.

Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere. Use it to jot notes, create to-do lists, clip entire Web pages, manage passwords, and record audio. Everything added to Evernote is automatically synchronized across platforms and devices and made searchable. The program will even recognize printed or handwritten text in photos and images.
