Internships : Candidate Profiles (1/2)

HackDemocracy & SocialTransformation Group is currently opening about 10 internships for 2017.

We are looking for social/societal heroes, driven by a critical mind, paradigmatic issues and strong ethics. We are looking for genuine team players who can leave their ego at the door and put their convictions and beliefs aside when required.

We are looking for candidates eager to (un)learn and (re)learn when traditional models don't fit anymore. Those creative thinkers who will be able to challenge recurrent thinking and distinguish signal from noise. Those who will enable the emergence of upgraded or brand new paradigms, models, institutions, concepts and artefacts for the 21st century societies and beyond. Those who want to take a dive in social/societal design with a vision.

We are especially looking for those open minds and outspoken characters who are not afraid to build bridges between distant disciplines and/or entities, whilst navigating through the uncertainties and the unknowns proper to transitional contexts. Those who are not afraid to explore and experiment to ideate and develop conceptual solutions and/or material implementations that contribute to common progress through transparency and inclusive empowerment.

And on top of that we are looking for those analytical minds who not only want to (re)think about tomorrow but also about the day[i] after tomorrow, where i=1 to ∞ … Yes, those creative and pragmatic minds willing to shape a future for all. Those social/societal heroes who are willing to enable alternative paradigms and artefacts against all odds.

So far, we identified 4 categories of social/societal heroes :

- the multidisciplinary researchers and analysts, who can dig into complex contexts to get the signal(s) from the noise ; - the problem solvers, who can design conceptual solutions such as processes, products, services, systems and ecosystems ;- the solution builders, who can make and implement solutions with specific technical expertise ;- the entrepreneurial supporters, who can make the magic happen all along the funnels and life-cycles.

But may be you will find yourself being a composite profile ? In any case you are welcome ! And in case you already have some ideas and/or projects that could fit the Group's objectives we should also have a discussion.

Internships : Practical Details


1. Most of projects/portfolios are centralised in Belgium with international exposure. Working language is usually English.

2. The scope and objectives of the internships are not predefined and imposed, as each internship will be individually co-defined with the the candidate in order to take into account personal preferences/priorities as much as possible.

3. Therefore, when you apply for an internship make sure to mention at least your preferences/priorities - ideally - in terms of :

- sectors/industries,- contexts/domains/ecosystems,- roles/responsibilities- expertises, skills, fields to practice/develop,- geography,- timing and duration,- academic and/or administrative constraints to integrate.

4. And in case you already have some idea(s) and/or project(s) that could fit the Group's objectives make sure to include a short description in order to prepare for a discussion and further opportunity assessment.

5. In case we consider your application can be translated into a win-win situation, we will invite you to initiate a first conversation to provide you with more details about potential projects that best fit your preferences/priorities and answer any questions you might have.

6. After this first conversation we expect you give us your final answer in the coming days/weeks, being :

- not interested, and we close the case,- interested, and you provided us a selection of 2 or 3 projects/portfolios in decreasing order of interest.

7. Finally we will invite you to engage into a second conversation in order to co-define the scope and objectives of the possible internships and agree on the practical details.
