HABITAT FOR HUMANITY ANNUAL REPORT 2012...

AnnUAl REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2012–2013 is past year has been a transformative time for Central SC Habitat for Humanity. We have emerged from the Great Re- cession with a solid footing and an expanded service model that has accelerated our mission to serve more families. In partnership with Bank of America, Wells Fargo and CHASE, we have acquired foreclosed homes in established neighborhoods that we are then able to renovate at modest costs for a partner Habitat family. is new service model has been a blessing to Habitat, as our organization, like many non-profits, has been affected by the Great Recession with decreasing donations, yet higher demand for our services. ese renovations of foreclosed homes are an opportunity for us to remain viable by doing more with less. During the fiscal year 2012-13, three of our eight build projects were ren- ovations, and these numbers are on the rise for the current year. At the same time, Central SC Habitat for Humanity has been designated a Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International which means that our focus has broadened from not just building houses, but to serving entire neighborhoods. As an NRI affiliate, when we receive a bank foreclosed home, we survey the ex- isting community to identify needs of other homeowners and find ways in which we can partner to build a thriving neigh- borhood. Exterior repairs, weatherization and yard clean-up have been some of the ways Habitat is literally changing the landscape in which we operate. New builds will continue to be a vital part of our Habitat mis- sion in the coming years, but other cost-effective housing op- tions such as renovations will help us serve more families in Richland and Lexington Counties.
