The Compassionate Friends is a mutual assistance, self-help organization offering friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved families. The primary purpose is to assist them in positive resolution of the grief experienced upon the death of a child and to support their efforts to achieve physical and emotional health. The secondary purpose is to provide information and to educate about bereaved families.

The objective is to help those in their community, including family, friends, employers, and co-workers to be supportive.

Thanksgiv ing I give thanks Lord, for… Time- The time I had with Tim, time to grow and learn even when I’m no longer young, and time which will one day reunite me with my child. Friends- Those that I’ve known that time had taken from me, those I cherish now, and those I’ve yet to meet. Answered prayers- I asked for comfort and strength to face what I must face and you answered me – maybe not the way I wanted, but you always answered me. For family- And I find my family expanding with each day. I find relatives need not always be family and family need not always be relatives. Love makes families – not bloodlines. For the children- Those remaining – mine and everyone else’s. And for the ones that remain only in memory. For love- Love that’s been given me so freely from hearts that were broken like mine but could still offer me strength and hope. For all of you- I thank God.

The Angel Statue Fund (reported by Arlene Priest)

In 2002, I attended the TCF National Conference in Salt Lake City. They took us to see the “Angel of Hope” statue, an

exact replica of the CHRISTMAS BOX ANGEL STATUE. The “Christmas Box” was written by Richard Paul Evans, and the Angel Statue is a symbol of hope for all parents who have experienced the death of a child. I knew immediately that I wanted an Angel Statue in our “Sanctuary” in Rose Park along with our Floral Garden, “Gift of Life” Brick Walkway, blue spruce tree and benches. And that became “my dream”! There are many of these statues throughout the U.S. I contacted the Richard Paul Evans, Inc. and met with Billings Park Dept. personnel, and have had numerous meetings. Discovered it takes much time to accomplish all the “ground work” to a project such as this. In the meantime, The Richard Paul Evans corporation advised me they would no longer authorize any more “Angel of Hope” statues. I was devastated! But I just could not let “my dream” die!! I continued meeting with sculptors and the Billings Park personnel, and most recently, the Steering Committee met with Drew Brown, sculptor. He presented many designs, and has now firmed up the design the Steering Committee chose and we are to be meeting again soon. Also, he and I are scheduling a meeting with the Billings Park personnel as to placement in or “Sancturay” in Rose Park.

We wish to have a name for our Angel. Suggestions to are, “ANGEL OF LOVE”, “ANGEL OF COMPASSION”, and “CHILD OF MINE”. We would so very much appreciate your submitting your name choices(s) to assist us in this decision. Please send to Arlene Priest, 842 Burlington Avenue, Billings, Mt, 59101, or call me at 252-3013. I believe “Angel of Hope” has been copyrighted so we cannot use that name.

The Billings Chapter is so very grateful for your response of memorials designated for our “Angel Fund”!!
