llll! f*AL FEDERAL RESERVE H.4.2 statistical release For immediate release June 12, 1963 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member "banks in leading cities shews the following principal changes for the week ended June 5: An increase of $108 million in loans adjusted, a decrease of $306 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, increases of $464 million in reserves with Federal Reserve Banks and $309 million in demand deposits adjusted, a decrease of $66*7 m i l l i o n in U. S. Government demand, deposits, and an increase of $704 million in demand d e p o s i t s credited to domestic commercial hanks. Commercial and industrial loans decreased in eight districts and a net of $106 million; during the comparable week a year ago these loans decreased $63 million. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government securities increased $29 million, and their loans for purchasing or carrying other securities increased $10 million• Loans to sales and personal financing institutions increased $86 million as compared with an increase of $120 million during the similar week in 1962. Real estate loans increased $29 million. "Other" loans increased $71 million. Holdings of Treasury bills by weekly reporting member banks decreased $216 million, and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds decreased $89 million. Demand deposits adjusted increased $302 million i n New York City, $191 million in the San Francisco District, and $103 million in the Richmond District, but they decreased $73 million in the Dallas District, $71 million in the Cleveland District, and by lesser amounts in five other districts. Savings deposits increased $78 million and "other" time deposits of individuals, partnerships, and corporations decreased $15 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased $54 million and borrowings from others increased' $190 million.
