Overview

The H3C S5120-HI series switch represents the latest enhanced IPv6 Layer 3 switches developed by H3C with advanced hardware capabilities and rich service features. They support

up to six 10GB ports(5500-34C/58C-HI only) or four 10GB ports, delivering the highest port density and flexible port scalability for 1U equipment in the industry. Supporting IPv4/IPv6 dual stack and line speed forwarding, they allow users to meet the challenges of the coming IPv6 era with ease. The unique intelligent resilient framework (IRF2) function simplifies network management. In addition, the excellent security, reliability, and multi-service support make the S5120-HI the best choice of access switches to connect server clusters in data centers (DCs) or access of large enterprise and campus networks.

The H3C S5120-HI series switch comes in these four models:

● S5120-52SC-HI: 48 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports, 2 100/1000Base-X SFP(Combo), 2 1G/10G SFP Plus ports, and 1 expansion slots.

subscribers, diagnosing and stopping illegal network activities timely.

● With enhanced ACL control logic, the H3C S5120-HI switch supports very high capacity inbound and outbound ACL and the distribution of VLAN-based ACL. This simplifies user configuration while saving ACL resources.

Multiple reliability protection

● The S5120-HI switch provides multiple reliability protection at both switch and link levels. With overcurrent, overvoltage, and overheat protection, all models have a redundant pluggable power module, which enables flexible configuration of AC or DC power modules based on actual needs. The entire switch supports fault detection and alarm for power supply and fan, allowing fan speed to change to suit different ambient temperatures.

● S5120-28SC-HI and S5120-52SC-HI with Hot-swappable fan modules which provide Front-to-Back Airflow or Back-to-Front Airflow supporting efficient data center hot and cold-aisle designs. These designs ensure high reliability.

QoS policies

● The H3C S5120-HI switch supports L2 to L4 packet filtering and traffic classification by source or destination MAC address, source or destination IP address, TCP/UDP port number, protocol type, and VLAN. They also support flexible queue scheduling algorithms including strict priority (SP), weighted round robin (WRR), SP+WRR, and WFQ with port or queue-based setting. The products support the committed access rate (CAR) with a minimum granularity of 8 kbps. They allow both inbound and outbound port mirroring, monitoring the packets on a specified port and copying the data packets to the monitoring port for detection and troubleshooting.

Excellent manageability

● The H3C S5120-HI switch provides a big variety of management ports, such as console and outband NM port in support of SNMP v1/v2/v3, supporting general NM platforms like Open View and iMC. With CLI, Web network management, Telnet, and HGMP, switch management is easier and SSH 2.0 encryption enhances security.

● The S5120-HI provides BIMS/EEE, and provides SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN mirroring, and several mirroring observation ports. You can easily analyze the network traffic and then take corresponding management or maintenance measures. The otherwise intangible network traffic is presented clearly with various traffic analysis reports to help you optimize network structure and adjust resource deployment promptly.

switches within it by configuring a single switch without having to connect to each member physically.

● Simplified service: The control protocols running on the logic switch created by IRF also run as a single, unified device. For example, the routing protocols will be computed as a single device in a unified way. Cross-switch link aggregation replaces the traditional STP and eliminates the interaction of a huge number of protocol messages among devices, simplifying network operation and shortening the convergence time during network instability.

● Resilient expandability: IRF can be flexibly expanded to suit users’ needs to protect their investment. Switches can be added to or deleted from IRF by hot plugging, without affecting the running of other switches.

● High reliability: The IRF delivers high reliability for links, switches, and protocols. It allows aggregation of physical ports of member switches and physical connections between IRF system and its upper and lower level switches. The multi-link backup greatly enhances link reliability. An IRF system consists of a number of member switches. When the master switch fails, the system will quickly elect a new master to ensure that services are not interrupted. This provides the 1: N backup at the switch level. The IRF system provides real-time hot backup of protocols, backing up configurations to all other members to achieve 1:N protocol reliability.

● High performance: For high-end switches, improvements on performance and port density will be constrained by the hardware structure. The performance and port density of an IRF system, however, are the sum of all switches and ports in it. Therefore, IRF can easily multiply the switching capabilities and port density to greatly improve switch performance.

Outstanding security control policies

● The H3C S5120-HI switch supports endpoint admission defense (EAD), integrating terminal security measures, including anti-virus and patching, and network security measures, such as network access control and access rights control into an interactive security system with the background system. By checking, isolating, repairing, managing, and monitoring the access terminals, they turn reactive single-point defense to proactive, all-round defense and change divided management into centralized policy management. This enhances the network’s overall protection against emerging threats such as viruses and worms.

● The H3C S5120-HI switch supports centralized MAC address authentication, 802.1x authentication, Portal authentication, dynamic or static binding of such user identifiers as user accounts, IP and MAC addresses, VLAN, and ports, and dynamic distribution of user policies (VLAN, QoS, and ACL). Together with H3C iMC system, they enable real-time management of online
