• Worsening of any previous disease like asthma, cardiac disease and diabetes etc.
• Persistent high fever resulting in seizures and possibly coma.
• Sepsis, i.e., infection in the blood due to pneumonia.
• Kidney failure.

Various Tests for H1N1 Swine Flu:
• History of the patient and medical examination is used to reach a presumptive diagnosis
• This is then confirmed by simple test like nasal or throat swab, which is used to identify the virus type
• Rapid diagnostic tests are easily available which also confirm the presence or absence of influenza
• Along with this Antibody and Antigen Detection Test are used

How to prevent H1N1 Swine Flu:• Frequent and thorough washing of hands.
• Use of alcohol based sanitizers.
• Use of masks when going in public.
• Disinfection of surfaces at home.
• Avoid large gatherings and crowded places.
• Patients who are sick should remain at home.
• Covering mouth and nose while sneezing or coughing.
• Quarantine and isolation of infected people.
• Strict monitoring at airports and docks by thermal screening, etc.

H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccination:
• A single dose of the vaccine is effective in producing antibodies in the body within 10 days of injection and the immunity is said to last for about 12 months.
• People who can take the swine flu vaccine are, farmers, poultry workers, people living in areas with swine flu, pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, children below 6 months of age, elderly above the age of 65 years and people with chronic illness like respiratory diseases, cardiac disease, neurological disease and people with impaired immunity.
