The ever increasing strain on our environment is a problem which effects us all.

For years, water pollution, in particular, has reached threatening levels. At the same time

the law makers are constantly setting higher requirements on the quality of the wastewater.

As a result, the application of innovative technology for future-orientated wastewater

treatment is a necessity. With great commitment INVENT is dedicated to the development

of such technology. Consequently products are being produced, which contribute in great

measure to the preservation of our environment. The protection of our environment

from damage due to harmful substances will become an even more

important task in the future. With innovative environmental technology,

INVENT is taking on this responsibility.

The C lass i c Mixer

Purification of wastewateris an area in which I N V E N Tspecialises. Biological waste-water treatment requiresmixing and aeration devices, which fulfil the task of con-stantly keeping the activatedsludge in motion, to achievehigh purification performance.

HYPERCLASSIC ® is the ClassicHyperboloid Mixer. It isavailable in the followingtwo versions:

as a pure bottom mixer

as a combined mixingand aeration system

Both versions of theHYPERCLASSIC ® fulfil all the re-quirements for a mixing andaeration system in communaland industrial treatment plants:

it uniformly distributesthe activated sludge par-ticles in the wastewaterto efficiently reduce thepercentage of nitrate andphosphate.

it effectively prevents thesettlement of bacteriaparticles in the activatedsludge tank.

The combined HYPERCLASSIC ® Mixing andAeration System achieveshigh oxygen transferduring the decompositionof BOD1 and COD2,nitrification, repectivelydenitrification withintermittent aeration.

F ie lds of App l i cat ion

The HYPERCLASSIC ® BottomMixer inhibits mainly thesedimentation of activatedsludge particles during denitri-fication or biological phos-phate elimination.

Without additional expensiveaeration equipment, the com-bined HYPERCLASSIC ® Mixingand Aerat ion System achieveshigh oxygen input levels du-ring nitrification, respectivelyduring denitrification with in-termittent aeration.

No Odour Prob lems

The transport ribs, integratedin the mixer body, cause anaccelaration of the medium ina radial direction, thereforesupporting the completecirculation of the tank con-tents. Henceforth, a disruptionin the water surface is pre-vented, from which, a mini-misation of air input duringthe denitrification and thephosphate elimination isaccomplished, and the outputof aerosol and resulting odourproblems is avoided.

Innovat iveMix ing Techno logy

Innovative mixing technologynot only comprises the effi-cient control of fluid mechani-cal designs, but also requiresdetailed knowledge of themechanical design of bridges, motors, shafts and connectingelements. Therefore, in addi-tion to the conventional fluidmechanical design methods, which are based on experi-

mental methods, I N V E N T alsouses modern numerical simu-lation methods (CFD1).

3D-CAD-Programs and FiniteElement Methods (FEM) areused for the mixer design. The implementation of mixersalso requires process techno-logy know-how, for the opti-mal functionalitiy of the bio-logical reactors. The figure tothe left shows a numericalsimulation of an activatedsludge tank with multiple com-plete mixing reactors, whichwas created with individualHYPERCLASSIC ® mixers.

High Oxygen Input

In addition to the mixer, thecombined HYPERCLASSIC ®

Mixing and Aeration systempossesses a ring sparger, which is installed underneaththe mixer body and facilitatesthe uniform distribution of air.During the aeration process, the velocity increases in com-parison to the velocity duringthe mixing process. Thisoccurs with the use of a two

speed motor or a frequencyconverter control. The shearribs, mounted on the circum-ference of the mixer body, chop air or pure oxygen, which is fed through the aera-tion ring, into bubbles with anoptimum diameter of 1.5 to3 mm. These are carried awayby the flow and distributedthroughout the tank, thus crea-ting a large input of oxygen.

By means of a control system, that controls both the air entryas well as the rate of revolu-tions, defined conditions canbe set.

In the case of winteroperations or peakloads, the system canmake additional spaceavailable for nitrification.

It is also optimally suitedfor SBR-plants.

In summer operations, itcan exclusively serve thedenitrification process.

The system is, of course, also applicable towardsnitrification, BOD- andCOD-reduction.

In Extreme Cond i t ions

Indust r ia l Wastewater

Industrial wastewater placesextreme demands on aerationsystems. A robust structureagainst harsh operations, pro-blematic wastewater contentand high temperatures belongsto the standards of such asystem. In this area of waste-

water treatment, conventionalmembrane aerators are con-sidered failures due to the sen-sitivity of the material and in-sufficient mixing flows. For thistype of case, I N V E N T specia-lises in and offers for all appli-cation areas a tailor made solu-

tion with HYPERCLASSIC ® Mixingand Aeration Systems. Thiscreates an optimal aeration per-formance with high valuespaired with prominent mixingconsistency.

The Mater ia l

Only selectively chosenmaterials, particularlyfibre-glass reinforcedplastics, are used for thedrive and mixer body.

The surface of the mixerbody is coated with abiologically neutral gel-coat (for the uninhibitedbreakdown of bacteria).

All materials used can berecycled or disposed ofwithout difficulty.

The Bear ing

The HYPERCLASSIC ®

mixer is principallychosen without a bottombearing. The shaftbearing occurs in thegeared motor.

The gear motor is bearedin rubber buffer.

Mixing and aerationsystems usually have anadditional security in-tank steady bearing torestrict the occurrence ofparallel deviation ofthe shaft.

The mixer body andthe optional bearing unitare designed with afavourable flow pattern, thus preventing anyaccumulation areas foragglomerations.

low maintenancerequirements

The Dr ive

The mixing element is driven by a shaft and aparallel shaft gearedmotor, installed in dryconditions.

It is run by exclusive ro-bust geared motors fromrenowned manufacturers, which, depending on thefield of application, canbe supplied completewith control andsequencing units. HYPERCLASSIC ® – Outstand ing
