2013 Mt. Cross Day Camp Service Project

School Kits for Lutheran World Relief

This year, Holy Trinity Summer Day Campers will be collecting items and assembling bags for the Lutheran World Relief School Kit project. These kits are given to children all over the world whose lives have been disrupted by war and natural disaster so that they can continue their education. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies may be more than many families can afford. Thank you for helping!

Continued Facilities Improvements

As part of the Facilities Audit, additional projects are planned for the summer/fall which will need volunteer assistance. Keeping in mind the ELCA slogan, “God’s Work, Our Hands” and the Holy Trinity philosophy of “Many hands make light work”, consider being part of this fun/giving ministry opportunity. Watch for the survey where you can sign up for the types of work, dates and times in which you can assist. Projects needing volunteers/tentative schedule:

Room 5 conversion to the Holy Trinity Conference Room (cleaning, painting prep, painting, pew moving, etc.) / July

Beilstein Hall preparation for worship during sanctuary renewal (cleaning, painting prep, painting, installing bulletin boards, etc.) / mid-September – October

Many behind-the-scenes activities by the Sanctuary Task Force continue:

Investigating lighting options

Meeting with interior design consultant to select flooring options and paint colors

Researching options for ambo (lectern), cross, baptismal font, chairs, etc.

Meetings with architect (Ken Hall) and contractor (Webb Builders) to coordinate ideas and refine specifics

Parallel to these activities, the Carlson Bequest Task Force (Lori Friedman, chair, Sue Davis, Michelle Rohrer, Doug Southward, Gary Wiessinger, and Pastor Christian) presented their congregation feedback, findings and recommendation to Council at the June meeting. The Council unanimously approved the Task Force recommendation: “The Carlson Bequest Task Force recommends that Bob and Elfie Carlson's bequest to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church be used as follows: 50% facilities/sanctuary renewal, 40% endowment, 10% benevolence.”

The Funding Task Force (Erin Andrews, Greg Bohlmann, John McDowell, Laura Jane Young, Gary Weissiner and Pastor Christian) is developing a congregation funding campaign for Holy Trinity’s capital projects. They will coordinate this campaign with the annual stewardship campaign, their goal being involvement by all congregation members.
