funds to make improvements at

camp on Saturday, November 10, at

Carving New Ideas Camp

Teens can spend a fun filled

weekend, November 16-18, at 4-H

Camp Ohio! Open to 8th-12th grade

4-H members, Carving New Ideas

is a camping opportunity for older

4-H Committee Seeking

New Members

Any current 4-H volunteers

interested in applying to become a

member of the Muskingum County

4-H Committee should submit a

completed application to the

Extension Office by November 15.

The 4-H Committee serves as an

advisory committee for the 4-H

program and assists with county-

wide 4-H programs like the 4-H

Kick-Off and Volunteer

Recognition Banquet. Applications

are available on our website at 4-H

Youth Development>Volunteer

Resources and at the Extension

Office.

New Volunteer Applications

If you know an adult who is

interested in becoming an approved

4-H volunteer for 2019, please let

them know the New 4-H Volunteer

Application will be available

November 1. Applications can be

found online at 4-H Youth

Resources, or picked up at the

Extension Office. Completed

applications must be submitted to

the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m.

on January 15, 2019.

Volunteers with a Break in

Service

Reminder: If a 4-H volunteer has a

break in service, that individual is

no longer considered an approved

4-H volunteer. A break in service

means a volunteer did not complete

a volunteer enrollment in 2018 or

stopped volunteering in an

approved 4-H volunteer capacity

for a year or more.

When a break in service occurs, the

individual must reapply as a New

4-H Volunteer and complete the

entire volunteer selection process in

order to become an approved 4-H

volunteer who is able to work with

the 4-H program.

Number of Club Volunteers

Required

Each 4-H club is required to have

a minimum of two approved 4-H

volunteers. Some clubs might need

to recruit some new volunteers to

complete the 4-H Volunteer

Selection Process.

Reminder: Mandatory

Volunteer Training

Organizational volunteers will need

to make sure that in addition to

themselves, each of their other club

volunteers, including Cloverbud

volunteers, attend a Mandatory 4-H

Volunteer Training to maintain

their volunteer status in 2019.

Opportunities for Older 4-H Youth

There are several exciting opportunities available to older 4-H members, please encourage them to participate! All ages are as of January 1, 2019.

Interested in learning more about completing the Achievement Form?

Attend the Workshop on October 24, 6-8 p.m. at the Extension Office. PLEASE RSVP.

COUNTY MEDAL AWARD - Have you excelled in a particular project area over a period of years? Then you should apply to earn one of three potential County Medal Awards in any of the over 25 project areas. Youth are eligible to win more than once. Winners over 14 years of age may be nominated for a State 4-H Achievement Award. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. STATE 4-H ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - Have you won a county medal in the past? Apply for a State 4-H Achievement Award in any of the 25 areas. State winners earn a free trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. CARTEENS – 4-H teens conduct this monthly program for first-time juvenile traffic offenders and their parents. Teens assist with registration and set-up, lead group activities, and are expected to be safe drivers. Programs are held the 2nd Thursday of each month (except August). College scholarships are available. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and have an Ohio learner’s permit or driver’s license. Contact Jamie if interested. CAMP COUNSELOR - 4-H Camp Ohio in St. Louisville, June 9-13, 2019. Camp counselors work with an Extension professional, adult 4-H volunteers, and the 4-H Camp Ohio staff to conduct a variety of outdoor learning experiences for campers ages 8-13. Counselors work with a partner to supervise a small group of campers in a cabin living environment. Meetings are held from December through June to plan camp activities and learn skills needed to be an effective camp counselor. Applicants must be ages 14 to 18. Complete and submit application by November 15. New Camp Counselor applicants must attend Counselor Selection Night on November 29. JUNIOR FAIR BOARD – Selected members complete a one year term. Responsibilities include attending and actively participating in meetings from the winter through the summer and assisting at pre-fair events and during fair week. Applicants must be ages 14 to 18. Complete and submit the Junior Fair Board Application by November 15 to the Extension Office. Interviews will take place November 26. COUNTY 4-H AMBASSADOR – The purpose of the 4-H Ambassador is to promote 4-H in Muskingum County and develop leadership skills. Priority will be given to 14 – 18 year olds; however, 13 year olds may apply.

Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. Interviews will take place December 12, schedule interview when submitting application.

JUNIOR LEADERS (JLs) - 4-H teens have the opportunity to participate in leadership development beyond their club. The group meets once per month at various locations throughout the county and state with a focus on career opportunities, leadership, citizenship and developing relationships among its members. Members must be at least age 14. Complete the Muskingum County Junior Leader Enrollment Form and submit it to Susan McDonald, Junior Leader Volunteer, by November 15. CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS (CWF) – June 16-22, 2019 at the National 4-H Center in Washington, DC. This trip is an intensive experience in learning citizenship. Field trips may be taken to Arlington Cemetery, Kennedy Center, Vietnam Memorial, National Cathedral, National Monuments, Mt. Vernon, and more. Other activities at the National 4-H Center include becoming a part of a mock congress, global awareness sessions, and developing a citizenship action plan to bring home to use. Recommended ages 16 and older. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. Interviews will take place December 12, schedule interview when submitting application. LEADERSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS (LWF) - July 15-19, 2019, is the only national leadership development experience designed exclusively for 4-H’ers entering grades 7-9 in fall 2018. It prepares 4-H youth for the future by teaching them leadership skills using an experiential learning model based in 4-H curriculum and the living classroom of Washington D.C. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. Interviews will take place December 12, schedule interview when submitting application. STATE 4-H LEADERSHIP CAMP – June 1-5, 2019. Teens from Muskingum County are selected to join other teens from all over Ohio for this fun leadership development experience held at 4-H Camp Ohio. Applicants must be at least 14 years old. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. Interviews will take place December 12, schedule interview when submitting application. OHIO 4-H SEA CAMP - Dates TBA. 4-H Sea Camp is held at Kelley’s Island on Lake Erie for members 13-18 years old to attend camp. The camp includes marine navigation, lure making, fishing techniques, a chartered fishing trip, swimming, scuba diving, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, fish cleaning, cooking, plus much more. Complete and submit the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15. Interviews will take place December 12, schedule interview when submitting application.
