What a great 30th Anniversary celebration!! Everyone enjoyed the photo albums, all of the memora-
bilia and especially the shooters. Again thank you Debbie Honeycutt for your hard work and your
excellent shooter recipes. Also another thank you to Martha Stetz for the fantastic decorations. And
to all the worker bees, thank you for all you do.
Which brings me to a request. We need more members to be involved with the running of Lake
Hickory Shag Club. We have a volunteer that will be calling you to ask for your assistance in dif-
ferent areas.
A great motto of a dear friend of mine: Volunteer -Make a friend. And that
is a true statement.
I know for some reasons, you cannot lean a hand to help but there are many
areas in running the club, that you would be able to assist us.

Remembering the passing of an icon…..
* H. Lee & the Pavilion experience *
North Myrtle Beach
H. Lee "Harry Lee" Brown, Jr. 68, passed away peacefully
Thursday, November 24, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving
family.
Born on May 13, 1948 in Greensboro, NC, he was the son of the
late Harry Lee and Lola Yow Brown.
He attended Page High School in Greensboro and was the owner
of O.D. Pavilion. You would often hear him say:
“If it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be me!”

It’s where it began for many of us…...
This is where it all began with me on my first expeditions to the beach. We would thumb down to the beach on a
Friday morning (and hopefully get there by mid afternoon) and stay till late afternoon on Sunday and hitch a ride
back to Hickory (or charlotte and thumb back from there). We would have about $20.00 a piece and have the time
of our life dancing to the Juke Box (this was before DJs), drinking PBRs @ 25¢ ea.. Parting till closing then
sometimes having to go up to Cherry Grove for after hours parties. Get up about mid morning the next day then
going to the Donut Diner & get our Cheeseburger w/lettuce, tomatoes, & mayo. That was our square meal for the
day. We will all miss H. Lee and what he did for the Shaggers.
H. Lee made this a special place for many in
the shag community and will be remembered
for giving us an awesome place to dance,
fantastic music, and to rekindle old friend-
ships. And a webcam to enjoy it all when we
couldn’t go to SOS.
Now for the bad news: When he passed the owner of the Pavilion was going to close it for the rest of the year,
which meant that we would not be able to relive those special time at the beach or SOS.
Now for the good news: the owner will be letting a fellow shagger lease it and open it for this Spring SOS with a
great line up of DJs.
H. Lee, Keep the beer cold, the music playing, and the
dance floor sanded, til we meet again on the other
side. “If it wasn’t for you, there wouldn’t be us!”
P.s. I sure wish you had a webcam up there.

(Prez’s letter cont’d from page 1)
We have been very fortunate since 2010 and years before that the shag club did not have to set up the
dance hall for bingo after our monthly party. Bingo meets every Tuesday night. Jr. the VFW manager
has been doing this for us. Now, the shag club will have to begin setting up for bingo, which means
after each party the tables must be arranged back to the bingo setting. I do not know the arrangement
that bingo has with the VFW, but Jr. has asked for help and we will need to comply. Again a member
will be calling on you to help, not each time but if we have enough, maybe once a year! That wouldn’t
be so bad, would it?
The upcoming party is April 1st and hopefully the weather will stay at a normal temperature. We have
Roy Childress as our DJ, and should be another great party.
We are having a few issues with the Phone Tree and trying to find another alternative. Those members
that do not have internet access, will be called individually reminding them of our monthly party.
So check your email for the party reminders!!
Please contact me or a Board member of any concerns or complaints that you may have.
Our member drawing is up to $100.00. Remember you must be present to win!! That’s a reason to be
there!!!
We do want your shag club to be the best for fun, fellowship and shagging’
Your Prez,
Ann
