H-Bomb

The success of the Americans building the

1st Hydrogen Bomb only lasted about a

year since the Soviets exploded their own

Bomb on their own territory.

FUN FACT

A Hydrogen Bomb has the power of 1 Million

Brinkmanship

President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his

secretary of state John Foster Dulles were

both against Communism.

The US wanted to use all forces to prevent

the spread of Communism even if it

included nuclear weapons.

Brinkmanship

This was a Policy that trimmed the Army

and Navy and expanded its air force to

deliver bombs.

This also helped the build up of nuclear

weapons.

Many Americans had a fear of nuclear

attacks on their own territory since even a

few bombs could kill many American lives.

Brinkmanship Children like Annie Dillard practiced air-

raid procedures.

Many families built underground shelters

in there back yards.

This led to 30 years of a fear of nuclear

war.
