SYSTEM DESIGNGyrodata’s rate-gyroscopic systemsrepresent a major advancement indirectional surveying—meeting today’srequirement for more precise well-bore positioning and reservoir delin-eation. Incorporating the latest aero-space guidance technology providesapproximately ten times the accuracyof conventional surveying methods.
FEATURES■ Inertial grade sensors and onsite
quality assurance provide thehighest proven survey accuracyavailable.
■ Downhole probes 1.75-3.6” in O.D.provide versatility to run in all pipesizes, temperatures and pressures.
■ Unique temperature modelingallows the highest heat resistanceversus time in the industry.
■ All-angle operation, pump downcapability and continuoussurveying allow opera-tions in the most difficulthigh angle wells tohorizontal.
■ One basic system per-forms multiple applica-tions for optimumversatility and economics.
Rate-Gyroscopic Wellbore Surveying

SYSTEM DESIGNGyrodata’s GEMS survey systemprovides a vast improvement in theaccuracy and reliability of magneticsurvey instrumentation by employ-ing the latest technology, including:■ Tri-axial magnetic and gravity
force-field sensors.■ Solid-state electronic data acquisi-
tion and processing.■ Special data verification and
performance modeling proceduresand techniques.
GEMS consists of a downhole sensorand electronics package, powered bya battery pack in the single or multi-shot mode, or electric wireline forsteering tool operation. Data is down-loaded at surface to a laptop comput-er, or read real-time with a Driller’sConsole during steering.
FEATURES■ Saves time and eliminates reliability
problems of film-based mechanicalsystems.
■ Provides continuous orientation ofcore barrels without stops to takedata.
■ Provides real-time reliable outputat surface with a Driller’s Console insteering operations.
■ Steering operation with a wirelinewet-connect eliminates side-entry subs.
■ Provides short-radius horizontalguidance with gamma logging andpressure detection.
■ Provides reliable guidance inair/underbalanced drilling andmud-loss situations.
SPECIFICATIONS■ Single/multishot probe:
1.75” O.D.x 8´ long■ Standard magnetic single/multishot
running gear■ Pressure rating: 20,000 psi■ Temperature: 300°F/150°C■ 2.125-inch dia. heatshield probe—
500°F/260°C■ Memory storage; 1020 survey records■ Readings: inclination, azimuth,
toolface, magnetic field strength, dip angle, gravity field strength, temperature
■ Resolution: azimuth, inclination,toolface - 0.01°
■ Programmable delay: 1-530 minutes■ Programmable shot—
interval setting: 5 sec-530 minutes■ Steering probe: 1.75” OD x 76” long■ Gamma probe: 1.75” OD x 27” long■ Pressure section: 1.75” OD x 37” long
APPLICATIONS■ Singleshot surveys in drillstring■ Multishot surveys in drillstring■ Wireline steering tool operation■ Horizontal drilling guidance with
optional gamma/pressure detection■ Continuous core orientation■ Coiled tubing guidance.
CORPORATIONGyrodata was found-ed in 1980 withfunding from severalmajor oil companiesto adapt modernaerospace guidancesystems for applica-tions in wellbore sur-veying. The companyaccomplished that challenge provid-ing the industry with the mostadvanced precision instrumentationavailable. Since that time, Gyrodatahas expanded worldwide offering avariety of high-technology productsand services.Corporate headquarters in Houston,Texas and Aberdeen, Scotland containhighly sophisticated research, devel-opment, and manufacturing facilitiesfor state-of-the-art electronics andnavigation instrumentation.
