Tooth pitch selection - Fernite recommendation

Choice of knife thicknessWe offer a choice of thicknesses, supplying both industry

standards, 0.032” and 0.048” (0.81mm and 1.2mm).

Additives and board linings are commonly used to modify traditional wallboard.

Using these additives can result in increased wear, or the build-up of material on the teeth and faces of the knife which can

impact on the knife’s cutting performance.

Our range of coated knives have been developed to

reduce the build-up of material at the root of the teeth.

We offer three coating types:

Additional non-stickprotection and high wearresistance for longer lifespan.

Our most advanced coating,offering the highest level ofwear resistance.

Choice of knife lengthIndustry standard lengths are 50” and 60”, however we can

manufacture custom knives to your required length.

Material SpecificationWe only use high quality stainless steel for the manufacture of

wallboard knives. This ensures adequate protection from

corrosive salts present in the gypsum slurry.

Our knives achieve optimum performance when

mounted with the plain side facing the in-feed end of

the conveyor.

The tips are then in the same vertical plane at mid-

point of cut, ensuring a clean cut.

With uniform, precise tooth pitch and straightness,

Fernite knives can be easily mounted without the

need for careful pairing and checking.

For optimum cutting performance we recommend:

● The linear speed of the knife should be

marginally faster than the speed of the

conveyor- ensuring the points exit from the cut

cleanly, and ahead of the following board.

● When in cutting mode (as opposed to

perforating) the knives are mounted with a

maximum of 1mm clearance point to root at

mid-point of cut.

● For optimum performance the root of the tooth

should not pass through the paper - a 1mm

clearance is recommended. This avoids build-

up of material in the roots of the teeth.
