COURSE DESCRIPTION: In the field of gynecologic/obstetric pathology, several needs currently exist in practice. For example, application of criteria for classification and diagnosis of endometrial lesions is highly variable among pathologists, which contributes to errors in patient management. Further, unusual presentation of common disorders, rather than recognition of rare disease entities, comprises frequent diagnostic challenges in this particular area.

This course presents a broad overview of many areas of surgical pathology, and is presented by Harvard Medical School faculty and selected guest faculty with known expertise in the specific subject matter areas. The course is designed to update both academic practicing pathologists and those in the community with new advances in surgical pathology. It also aims to provide aids in diagnosis based on conventional morphologic analysis as well as updates on new techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology to the extent that they bear on establishing the correct diagnosis. The program features conventional didactic lectures with frequent discussion periods and extensive time for one-on-one contact with faculty.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:• Evaluate new criteria for pathologic diagnoses in oncologic obstetrics and

gynecology.• Apply modern staging systems for tumors.• Differentiate between diagnoses of malignancy as opposed to non-neoplastic

mimics of malignancy.• Describe unusual entities and apply criteria for their diagnosis.• Review the decision-making process used to arrive at specific diagnoses.

ACCREDITATION/MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION: The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Harvard Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 26.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Harvard Medical School is approved by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) to offer Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs) for meeting the ABP requirements for maintenance of certification. SAM modules will be offered for this program. Registrants must pass a post-test assessment in order to claim MOC credits.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada recognizes conferences and workshops held outside of Canada that are developed by a university, academy, hospital, specialty society or college as accredited group learning activities.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ claimed by physicians attending live events certified and organized in the United States for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ can be claimed through the agreement on mutual recognition of credits between UEMS and AMA, considered as being equal to the European Continuous Medical Education Credits (ECMEC©) granted by the UEMS. One AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ is equivalent to one (1) hour of European EACCME Credit (ECMEC©), therefore up to 26.75 ECMEC© Credits are available. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

ACGME COMPETENCIES: This course is designed to meet one or more of the following Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education competencies:

• Medical knowledge • Practice-based learning and improvement
