Summer is moving along and tomatoes are ripening. Finally! This month I want to high-
light several of the projects the Public Works Department has completed in our parks dur-
ing the last few years.
■ Brookside Park in the Brookside subdivision
■ Hampshire Park at about 550 South and 300 West.
■ A new bridge crossing Spring Creek at Von’s Park—this project will allow for much
better access to the walking trail in the upper portion of the park. At the request of the
Baer family, this park was recently renamed Von Baer Park.
■ A parking lot at the mouth of Providence Canyon.
■ The Providence Canyon trail is designed and construction starts this month
■ The Pony League Field was upgraded.
■ A new sidewalk was constructed through Zollinger Park.
When you see people from the Parks Department complement them on their continuing
commitment to excellence.
~ Mayor Randy Simmons~

UTAH MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY & ZIONS BANK
WILL HOST A FREE FAMILY ADVENTURE
AT PROVIDENCE ZIONS BRANCH
A dozen different natural history activities
to be featured August 13, 2009
The Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah and Zions Bank will
bring a Free Family Field Camp Adventure and the Traveling Treasures:
Connecting Cultures: The Zions Bank Four Corners Collection
exhibit to Providence.
The Traveling Treasures exhibit will feature four cases of selected objects from the newly acquired 600-piece
Native American collection made possible by the Museum’s Collectors Council and a generous gift from Zions Bank.
The Traveling Treasures exhibit will remain at the bank throughout August during regular lobby hours and is free
and open to the public.
The Family Field Camp Adventure will feature a variety of hands-on natural history activities, some relating
to the exhibit, on Thursday, August 13, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Zions Bank, 284 S. Highway 165.
The free activities include panning for rocks, minerals, and $1 coins; understanding fossils by making a plaster cast,
the design elements of beading a necklace; understanding botany by examining a sunflower and planting seeds to
take home; viewing skulls of Utah mammals; examining rocks and minerals with microscopes; and more.
Refreshments will be provided.
“As Utah’s oldest bank, we are pleased to support the museum and be a part of this statewide outreach to
communities throughout Utah,” said Jill Nelson, manager of the Providence branch of Zions Bank. “We hope our
customers and the general public will take the opportunity to experience this free family event and visit our lobby to
view these beautiful collection objects,” said Nelson.
Come and join Zions Bank for this Fun Event!
