Dear colleagues,
This is a much awaited time of the year, when the festive season starts setting in, and the weather begins to cool down in preparation for winter!
Welcome to the Fall issue of GVK WORLD!
The last quarter saw many significant developments and achievements across our business verticals. From GVK being named amongst the Best Infrastructure Brands 2016 ; GVK CSIA bagging the Best Airport in Metro Cities award; our Deoli-Kota Expressway winning the Best Roads and Highways Project of the Year, and GVK ONE being bestowed with the Times Retail Icon Award, these last few months have been quite rewarding.
Flip through, to know more about all the bagful of accolades that have come our way lately.
We are happy to share with you the news that GVK EMRI has now expanded its services across Indian boundaries to Sri Lanka. Our cover story brings you insights on how this significant service, after transforming the emergency care scenario in India, would contribute towards further strengthening the health care set-up of our neighbouring country by providing timely access to emergency situations. Presently, this service has been deployed in the Western and Southern provinces and would gradually spread to other districts across Sri Lanka, in a phased manner.
Another development is the launch of ‘Tajness’ at all our TAJGVK properties - a unique concept that goes back to the core values of the group: distinctive hospitality, Indian inspired luxury and a sense of warmth. Tajness is a new brand philosophy that would ensure consistency in service and an experience that is Indian at heart. Read on to know more about this unique concept.
This issue also encapsulates glimpses of traditional festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Puja and Navratri celebrations across various locations, as well as celebrations at the GVK AP1 Bali International Airport, Indonesia. We also present the colourful contributions received for the ‘Dress in tri-colour’ contest that was launched as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
Wish you a great festive season ahead….
Happy reading and here’s wishing you all a very happy, prosperous and environmentally friendly celebration of Diwali!!

JULY-SEPTEMBER 2016
G VK EMRI after transforming the emergency care scenario in India, has
now collaborated with the Sri Lankan government to launch a first-of-its-kind 1990 Emergency
Ambulance Service (EAS) in that country, which would further strengthen the healthcare system by providing timely access for any emergency situations.
The inauguration ceremony was held on 28 July, 2016 at the hands
of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr Ranil Wikremesinghe and our Chairman Dr GVK Reddy in the presence of Mr G V Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman GVK, Mr K Krishnam Raju, Director GVK EMRI, Mr Subodh Satyawadi,

medical facilities in Sri Lanka. Through this initiative, over 550 Sri Lankans are being given employment including 250 EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) who were trained in India to stringent standards. In addition, 250 pilots and 50 Call Center Operators have been trained and equipped with the know-how and competencies in managing and administering emergency care. This extent of knowledge transfer, which includes US paramedic certifications and a state-of-the-art Command and
Control Center located in Rajagiriya, Colombo is another first in the country’s healthcare set-up.
Based on GVK EMRI’s model of sense, reach and care, this is Sri Lanka’s first fully fledged pre-hospital care ambulance service that would be available to anyone, free of charge. While Sri Lanka’s healthcare is quite well developed, the launch of this service would help fill the gap that existed in gaining timely access to emergency situations. Many deaths occur due to lack of facilities to rush the wounded or the sick to a hospital in time. Now, anyone wanting the service can call the hotline ‘1990’ and a fully equipped ambulance would arrive at the spot within 30 minutes, stabilize and transport the patient to the nearest and appropriate state sector
hospital. It is in that ‘golden hour’ that care must be administered in case of emergency situations and these ambulances are equipped with all the facilities along with highly trained personnel who provide pre-hospital care. The service has presently been deployed in the Western and Southern provinces and would gradually spread to other districts as well. Given the socially responsible facets embedded in this initiative, it is indeed an honour for the Govt of India and especially, GVK, to be associated with such a noble initiative. The commencement of the ambulance project augurs closer ties between India and Sri Lanka and would also help strengthen the economic development of the two nations.

And we don’t like to stick to the ordinary. Whenever we get an opportunity to commemorate a wedding union, we ensure there is nothing holding us back in making the airport experience a lifelong memory! Pranaam as a brand has grown by leaps over the last few years; we have always been a hot favourite amongst the Bollywood fraternity. At Pranaam, we truly believe the airport can be much more than a transit / transactional place. We believe and work as a team to make beautiful memories creating a niche for ourselves.

“For me, the on-ground experience is as important as the in-flight one. I have used similar services in other parts of the world but their warmth and efficiency with an added layer of Indian hospitality
really sets Pranaam apart. At one time air travel used to be an elegant affair but that has all changed. Airports are now stressful and chaotic and, as I’m often travelling alone, it can end
up being unpleasant dealing with crowds, long queues and delays. It’s great having an ‘insider’ taking care of you and making sure your time through the airport is as smooth and worry-free as
possible.”Rahul Khanna Bollywood Actor

“So Pranaam Services is really really really awesome. They’re my travel buddies almost. Whenever I go or when I come back home they’re always there to welcome me with a lot of love. So thank you guys so much for always being there and I hope Pranaam is always there to welcome me back home and take me away wherever my destination is. Thank you!”

Unveiling TajnessNobility inspired by Indian heritage
A s one of Asia’s finest group of hotels, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces has unveiled Tajness – the group’s brand and operations philosophy for the future. It
was indeed a moment of great pride for the associates as Tajness was unveiled at Taj Banjara and Vivanta by Taj. The General Managers introduced the concept to the associates, elaborated on the Taj Ethos, and how it stemmed from the Values, Mutual Respect, Mission, Purpose and Brand Promise. The Heads of Departments also unveiled the brand posters that were displayed at strategic locations across the hotels.
Tajness seeks its inspiration from the nobility of this Indian heritage and blends it with the local cultures to deliver an unparalleled experience of sincere care
at its 100 hotels around the world. The concept aims to redefine the experience for customers across all Taj properties and bring about uniformity in look and feel and the quality of service. It is a promise of sincere care for guests and stakeholders that honours the past and will help shape the future of the company.
The Tajness rituals will be put into practice across all Taj hotels to guide the guests’ journey from the moment of their arrival honouring local and traditional welcome rituals. Tajness will be exhibited in many forms whether it is smell, touch, feel or taste. For instance, the company is bringing about uniformity in fragrance and music across all its properties. It has chosen ‘jasmine’ as the fragrance for its hotels. The Tajness rituals will also include gentle yoga on wake-up and the afternoon tea that pays

homage to local tea traditions, to the atmospheric sunset ritual that lights its way into the evening and the sleep ritual that soothes into a restful slumber. Some of its signature dishes will also be available across its hotel brands including Vivanta and Gateway. A Tajness farewell would ensure that the guests carry a bit of Taj with them; lasting memories that will bring them back for their next visit.
Additionally, the ongoing product improvement plan through upgrade, redesign and refurbishment will deliver the Tajness consistency across all hotels and resorts. Tajness will be rolled out across all 100 Taj hotels in India and internationally in a phased manner with completion scheduled by the end of 2017.

A Vision for India
T he beauty of our nation is resilient. A large percentage of the Indian population
is self-employed. This means everyone is an entrepreneur by himself. There is a difference between taking up a job and being an entrepreneur. Even if you are just selling peanuts on the street, you still need to understand where is the cheapest resource, where the market is good, what is the right kind of marketing and what one should say according to the season. There is a lot of brainstorming involved, even in selling a heap of peanuts. How so ever small or big an entrepreneur is, he has a certain active intellect going on within him. He is a small entrepreneur only because of the situations in which he exists, not because of his capabilities. If you just give him an opportunity, and he finds the necessary exposure, he will propel himself. When such an effervescent intellect exists, we must certainly harness it. If you just create a conducive atmosphere, people will do
incredible things.
One thing about Indians is that they have a huge sense of loyalty. If you do something for them, they would always be there for you. Another thing I always see is that an average Indian crowd is intellectually much more effervescent than most of the people on the planet. I have spoken to all kinds of groups, to the highest level of academicians, scientists and economic leaders. There are brilliant people, no question about it, but there is a certain level of intellect in the general population of India. This is the effect of thousands of years of culture. And it has to be harnessed. If you leave it unharnessed for too long, it will dive down and become static. Right now, it is still an effervescent intellect. If you give a person a little support, he will climb.
Today, India is on the threshold of an economic upsurge. Various things that we could not even dream were possible for a larger segment of the population may
be possible in the next few years – if we handle things in the right manner. Large segments of the population may hugely benefit. We are right on the threshold, it just depends on how we handle it.
People want predictions, “Sadhguru, can you predict what will happen to India? In fifty years, will we be a superpower?” I feel that if we handle the present situation smartly, we can be a tremendous power because we are a population of 1.2 billion. A population of 1.2 billion with the necessary intellect is as good as anything can be.
Power does not mean, “Will we have the biggest army in the world?” Power means everyone looks at you for guidance in the world. If they want to live well, they look at you for guidance – this is power. This culture has always had this power. People always looked east when they thought of living well. So this is not empty talk. This was always there but the culture has fallen. But, one must understand that this happens to

all cultures. There will be peaks and there will be downtrends. If we as a generation have any sense, we have to pull it up. This does not happen on its own; everyone has to work towards it.
Too much empty talk is going on around the nation. This is not the time to talk; this is the time to do something. This is the time to work. Every individual, whatever sphere of life he is in, whatever responsibility he holds, whatever influence he has, has to stand up and make that happen in his area. The governments cannot do this; some other leader cannot do it. Every human being has to do it.
A vision for India is not about what I think or what you think. What people need is what needs to happen. Right now, what people need is atleast
a reasonably decent standard of living. So, the most important thing is nourishment, which must happen. Today, sixty percent of the Indian population is considered malnourished – even the reasonably well-to-do – because their skeletal systems are not growing to full size. If your body does not grow to full size, your brain will also not grow to full size. We are producing an
underdeveloped humanity, which is a very big risk for the future. If you have 1.2 billion people, healthy, active, focussed and trained for something, you can make a miracle out of it. But if you have 1.2 billion people unhealthy, malnourished,
uneducated, unfocussed and uninspired, you have a major disaster on your hands.
Are we going to turn this population – which is the youngest population on the planet in terms of nations – into a possibility or are we going to turn this into a disaster? We are going to determine that in the next ten to fifteen years. And every
human being who breathes on this land has to participate in making this happen in whichever way he can do. That is my vision: to draw as many people as possible to actively participate in this, in whichever way
possible because if this time passes, it may be too late. If you sit on the threshold for too long, you will be run over by someone else.

GVK CSIA’s Comforting Angels
T he Golden Retrievers named Goldie, Pepe and Sunshine are a common sight at GVK
CSIA thse days.
Also known as Comforting Angels, they roam up and down the boarding gates, thus giving an opportunity to the first time
travellers, who have an anxiety of flying, are unwell or are facing personal problems, to de-stress and unwind themselves. The embarking international and domestic travellers may avail this service between 7.30pm-11.30pm and 5pm-7pm respectively, three days a week from Friday to Sunday. This service
commenced at the International departures last year on 26 September. After an overwhelming response from the travellers at the International departures, MIAL recently commenced the service for travellers at the domestic departures from 6 June.
Comfort dogs are essentially therapy dogs that are trained to work with humans with
different needs. Their role is to interact with the people and comfort them. The rationale behind why people feel good
after interacting with dogs is that when we pet an animal, the softness of the fur
against our hand and the lively interaction of the dog stimulate the release of
oxytocin in our brain. Oxytocin is our ‘feel good hormone’ which helps reducing stress. These hormonal changes help
people who are stressed or nervous to feel relaxed instantaneously.
Aleena Ross
“Animal therapy is an amazing way to brighten anyone’s day! So glad to see it in India at an airport! Much appreciated.”
Karishma Thakur
Feedback from the travellers
“Animals are God sent. As you rightly called them Angels. After standing in the queue for over an hour, this was indeed comforting. Great concept-GVK always surprises!”
Manjari Fadnis
“I think this is the sweetest thing to happen at the airport! Loved meeting Pepe and Sunshine!
So happy and charged up before the travel!

One million aircraft movements at GVK KIAB
G VK KIAB crossed a significant milestone as it clocked one million planes taking off and landing on
10 August, 2016 since it began operations on 24 May, 2008. In 2015, it achieved the status of a mid-sized airport, when it recorded 18 million flyers during the year, becoming the third busiest airport after Delhi and Mumbai. On an average, it caters to 60,000 flyers and sees over 476 arrivals and departures on a daily basis. The airport operates 44 airlines that connect the city to various national and international destinations.
T he Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit at GVK CSIA organized a Mutual Aid
Training Program for the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) in order to enhance the local utility in handling off-airport accidents and to develop capacity to assist at on-airport accidents. The weekly program was conducted in four sessions and had around 200 participants. This program was based on the recommendations of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) which states that such mutual aid training between airport rescue services and local fire personnel helps build confidence in handling
aircraft-related fires. The training was conducted from 11 July to 2 August, 2016. The local fire-fighters were given a tour of the airport premises and periphery to help them get acquainted with the area. The program aimed to equip local fire agency crews, especially those in the vicinity of the airport, with the basic training required to proceed with fire suppression in case of any accidents at the airport. This training would help the local crew to take control of the basic fire-fighting measures and the specialized airport emergency crew to simultaneously consult with them and identify those areas
that require specific attention to successfully diffuse the situation. The Mutual Aid Training Program provides the local fire brigade an initiation to the basic airport and aircraft related fire safety, as well as educates them about ARFF’s specialized equipment that is also available for use in the event of major fire incidents elsewhere in the city. Through this joint training, the ARFF and MFB officials were able to formulate a plan in terms of the division of responsibilities between the departments. The Air India Fire & Security Department and Air India Engineering also assisted in these sessions.

GVK EMRI makes a difference….
I n India, Organ Donation Day is observed on 13 August every year. This day aims to create
awareness about organ donation and motivate human beings to donate their organs. It also helps us understand the value of organ donation in the life of an individual.
With GVK EMRI’s proactive and pioneering efforts, many organ donations have been successfully
implemented with the help of 104 health helpline.
33 eye donations - In case of a death, 104 helpline gets a call. In such situations, the team from GVK EMRI immediately contacts the nearest eye bank. The medical team from the eye bank then reaches the caller’s residence and enucleation is carried out. GVK EMRI takes pride to be
associated with the team that helps in getting back the vision. This service is 24X7 in Tamil Nadu wherein a team of Registration Officers, Paramedics, Medical Officer, Psychologists and Service Improvement Officers work in close coordination to carry out a successful donation.
Four whole body donations have been successfully facilitated.
One multi organ donation has been facilitated. Predominantly, organs harvested from a Government Hospital would be transferred to private hospitals for transplantation.
Now, 104 facilitated the organ donation of a brain dead patient at a private hospital to Government hospital.

New 108 ambulances and mobile app launched in Himachal Pradesh
T o strengthen the emergency response scenario in Himachal Pradesh, five new ambulances have been launched under the 108 scheme
by HP’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Kaul Singh Thakur. With this, the number of ambulances in the state has risen to 199. Considering the tough topography, this service has proved to be a boon for the people of the state. Also, the 102 Janani Express provides free services to pregnant women from home to the hospital and back home post the delivery. So far, around 82,000 women have been benefited from this service. To avail easy and immediate access to ambulances in the state, the Health Minister also launched a mobile app named ‘108 HP’ that may be downloaded from any smartphone. The app would make it easier and faster to access the ambulance service in the state and also does not require sharing of information such as name and location. With this unique distinction, Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in India to launch any such app.

Talking about Mumbai City, an idol of an

Lord Ganesha was visible in full splendour,

Lessons from this picture:1. Not all opportunities are to be taken. Some are traps2. A person can become so determined to destroy
another person that they become blind and end up destroying themselves
3. You fight best in your natural element and environment. Here the bird has advatange in his natural element
4. Know your limits, we all have them5. Sometimes the best response to provocation is not to
fight6. Sometimes to accomplish something you need team
work, you will not always win alone7. Stick to what you do best and don’t pursue what will
kill you
