Communication Day Set

Come join the excitement at the Guthrie County Com-munications Day on Monday, July 16, from 1 – 5:30 p.m. at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Community Building. There are so many options that you’re sure to find one that is right for you! Educational Presentations—You have the opportunity to give a presentation about something that interests you. You can give a presentation on just about anything! Working Exhibits –These are audience interactive and

demonstrate or teach directly to a small group. The

audience participates in a “hands on” activity and takes

home the item that they made with you.

Extemporaneous speaking—This contest gives you the

opportunity to choose a topic and prepare a speech in

thirty minutes to give to a judge. If you’re good at last

minute preparation, this contest maybe for you!

Poster—Communicate in a visual rather than an oral form.

Choose from one of this year’s themes and get creative.

Please contact the Extension Office with any questions

you may have. Contact the Extension Office by July 12 to

schedule your presentation or working exhibit.

LOCAL 4-H NEWS

July 16 from 1 to 6 p.m. Youth entering non-livestock exhibits for the Guthrie County Fair will participate in a conference judging ex-perience on Monday, July 16, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Community Building at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds. A goal card or write up should be attached to each ex-hibit along with a fair entry tag. A write up done in advance will usually be better than one that you put together when you arrive at judging. Information needed includes: 1) What did you plan to learn or do? (What was your exhibit goal(s)? ) 2) What steps did you take to learn or do this? Explain what you wanted to do so it is easily understood. The judge wants to know and understand the steps you used to make your exhibit. 3) What were the most important things you learned?

Photography exhibits must include a photography label instead of a goal card. It is suggested you limit yourself to the best 5—10 photos. Food and nutrition prepared exhibits must include the recipe and site the source of the recipe. Preserved foods must include the Food preservation Label.

Photography and preserved food labels are available at the

Extension Office.

Remember: Each exhibit needs a unique goal . This in-

cludes photography.

Check the exhibit tip sheets at http://

www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/tipsheets.htm for

more information about preparing your exhibits and your

write-ups.
