Transcript of Gunshow: Vol. 0

  • Comics from 2006-2007

  • Gunshow originally came about when I was standing around my job at a Blockbuster and thought the name gun show would be a good name for some kind of comic. Maybe my own? I grew bored with the name I already had with my current comic. It was called Droop, which I later changed to Bee Power, then I quit updating it. Gunshow, as a webcomic, sort of became a dif-ferent version of Droop/Bee Power, but without 6 years of comics from high school and college for people to trudge through. Thats all confusing and dumb. Lets just forget about that.

Back at the Blockbuster, and like most regular jobs I held, I would draw when it was slow. I would use the receipt tape to doodle or write down an idea and stuff it into my pockets for later. One time I drew the comic cookie bag (pg. 177) on a re-ceipt tape, and the idea came to me to do more quick, 3 panel, one-off gag strips and collect them in a mini comic. I named the mini-comic Gunshow.

I did three issues of it as a mini comic in 2006-2007. Each issue sort of having an over-arching theme or plot to them as it went on, but always being gag-based and silly and 3 panels. I stopped after three. Then I did the 200 bad comics exercise in late 2007 which reminded me how fun doing little 3 panel gag comics was. I wanted to do an issue 4 of Gunshow and wrote a whole bunch of comics for it before I remembered I didnt have a lot of money to print them. So I made it a webcomic in September 2008.

Obviously, I didnt stick with the 3 panel format forever. Everything changes and I get too bored with things for my own good. But now you can see what kind of animal it was before.
