REMEMBRANCE DAY

High School at the
Remembrance Day
Ceremony held at the
Gunnedah Cenotaph
on Tuesday morning.
Meg and Brandon laid
a wreath on behalf of
the school. A
minute‟s silence marked the “11th hour of the 11
th day
of the 11th month signifying the end of World War 1
in 1918. Ex student, Sammy Porter, sounded the last
post and reveille.
During the morning assembly, Miss Emma Holdom,
spoke to the students about Remembrance Day and
the conditions soldiers lived in, reminding students
that many of the soldiers were their age. A reading
of the poem, “In Flanders Fields,” and a minutes
silence ended the proceedings.
Footnote: The Gunnedah High School
Environmental Committee is designing an ANZAC
Memorial Garden in recognition of the 100th Year
Anniversary. If you would like to contribute to this

ROTARY PUBLIC SPEAKING
Gunnedah High School students, Clara Megson and Kassidy Lamey, were selected by the Gunnedah Rotary Clubs to represent them at the Rotary Public Speaking Competition held recently at Coonabarabran. The two students, who have just started their HSC Course, were joined by Lianna Block representing the Boggabri Rotary Club at the competition. Kassidy Lamey was announced the winner with her speech on Mental Health, Depression and Anxiety. Kassidy will now go on to represent the Gunnedah Rotary Club at Walcha in February 2015.

Thomas, Rebecca Dykes and Sarah Banister. Lea is
from the University of Newcastle studying a Bachelor
of Teaching/Bachelor Arts majoring in Ancient
History; Rebecca is from the Ourimbah Campus of
the University of Newcastle and is in her final year of
a Bachelor Teaching /Bachelor Arts; Sarah is also at
the University of Newcastle and is studying PDHPE.

YEAR 10 LEARNING PORTFOLIOS
On Thursday and Friday of Week 6, Year 10 students
were involved in Learning Portfolio interviews. The
aim of this interview is for students to demonstrate
the achievements that have been developed through
the completion of assessment activities. Students
will be able to link their learning to specific work
related skills and to their goals for the future. A
special portfolio has been given to each student so
that their achievements can be professionally
presented.

YO2ED- FIRST AID CERTIFICAT ES
Gunnedah students from the Youth Opportunities to
Education Project (Yo2Ed) have taken the time out
from their Certification II Agriculture course to gain
vital knowledge and learn valuable skills that may
some day save lives.
They were supported in their training by Gary
Johnson of „See Clearly Now- Aquatic & Recreation
Risk Management’ in association with the Royal
Life Saving Society of Australia at the Red Chief
Land Council venue.
The students thanked Gary who volunteered his
expertise for two days to provide the sixteen students
with this training to develop valuable social skills,
add to their qualifications for their future pathways
and satisfy units in their two Certificate II courses.

Visual Arts HSC Bodies of Work
OPEN NIGHT
Year 12 students, Nicki Bruce, Samantha Turner, Amy Alker and Chelsa Pascoenervously await their turn to donate blood. Students from Gunnedah High
School have been rolling up their sleeves for many
years donating blood to the Australian Red Cross
Blood Service. Blood donations are vital, with one in
three people needing blood in their lifetime. A single
donation, when components are separated, can make up
to 22 different products.
