GAVA Board Message

Our February meeting finalized the voting for new Board members and the reduction from seven back to five. The Board now consists of five members: Donna Walston, 1st V.P., Charley Freeman, 2nd V.P., Doug Campbell, Treasurer, and Bob Rose, Secretary.

Gull Aire is an active village with a great club house and pool area and many events and activities. It is the commitment of all Board members to maintain our facilities and keep GAV a great place to live. We give our thanks to past Board members who have worked diligently to maintain and improve our property, they did a great job; and we will be working hard to continue that agenda.

Tom Farkas, President

ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS

Many residents of Gull Aire are dog owners. We all enjoy pets but unfortunately, many residents will allow their pet to use other people’s yards or Gull Aire common property around the club house or the ponds to do their duty. Not only is this a nuisance and inconsiderate but against Section 9 of the Covenants, which could lead to the removal of the pet from Gull Aire. Please use common sense when taking your dog for walks on the streets and use your own yard for his duty.

Thank You!

REMINDER There will be a HAZMAT disposal unit at Gull Aire on Tues. April 2nd from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

SOCIAL CLUB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

At the March meeting we elected our new officers for the Social Club - Dale Mathurin, President, Barbara Drawbaugh, Vice President, Eva Joline, Secretary and Diana Lutch, Treasurer. I look forward to working with the new board in the coming year. We also have a new shed manager, Ken Foster. I know Ken will do a great job with our shed.

A big THANK YOU goes to Doug & Debbie Campbell, Ginny & Dennis Gallagher, Ron & Susan Sears and Pat Rathburn for the outstanding job they did with the shed this past year.

Everyone really enjoyed our February cruise. The weather was picture perfect. Every day we had calm seas, light breeze, sunshine, and temperatures of 80 – 81 degrees. With this beautiful weather we were able to enjoy all the ports of calls. I can’t wait till next February. We are planning a cruise to Labadee, Bonaire, Aruba, and Curacao. This will be a great getaway cruise. Please see the flyer on the bulletin board and sign up for this magnificent cruise. I know you will enjoy it.

The Social Club Activities Committee has been working very hard to provide you with some varied and entertaining events for the year. Among them in April we have our Aloha Party on the 6th where we wish our snowbirds “Aloha.” We are sad to see them go but also look forward to seeing them again in the fall.

Our Social Club Pancake Breakfast has been a great success and we will have another one on the 13th. Come on down and enjoy a good breakfast and socialize with your friends and neighbors.

Another popular event is also on the 13th. It is Night at the Races. You will enjoy this time with your friends while urging on your favorite jockey. It is always a hilarious night.

The Bunco night has changed its time to 7:00pm. Please make note of this new time. Bingo will have Hot Dogs on the 10th and 24th.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy all the events we put on for you. Keep your eyes open as we are planning some different and exciting events for you in the future.

As always, please check the bulletin board and web site for any changes.

Dale Mathurin, President

Our League season ended on Mar. 20th. At this writing, final team standings are not available. I will have the results in the May newsletter. On March 7th we had our year end meeting and election of officers. All officers, captains and co-captains were re-elected for the 2019-2020 season. Issues discussed at this meeting included changes in rules regarding player averages, doubling who is allowed to play in “A” or “B” teams, etc.

Opened for discussion was a date and place for our final year-end banquet. Suggestions were made and several offered to check for availability as to room size needed and date.

Discussed was the on-going need for volunteers to help with court clean-up before and after the home games. A suggestion was made to make up a list of duties and a “volunteer” be assigned to a task (according to ability). This would be posted with the players list at the courts. If unable to do the assigned duty, write in what you are willing and/or able to do to help. It’s a way to relieve the work of the very few that are now and have been for many years, doing all of the clean-up and prep work. Please, let’s all give this a try, to make “many hands make less work”!!

Letter from The Shed Manager I want to thank the Social Club for allowing me to be the Shed Manager for the past year. At the beginning, I realized that I needed to put together a very good crew to work together as a team. As my team, I would like to thank my wife Debbie, Pat Rathburn, Denny and Ginny Gallagher and Ron Sears for all their hard work throughout the year, along with all of the other residents who assisted us along the way. But most of all, I would like to thank each and every resident that donated items to the Granny’s Attic. Because, without you, then none of this would have been possible!

I think we had a very good year and a very successful Granny’s Attic. I would like to thank Ken Foster for agreeing to be the Shed Manager this year. We all need to support him in his efforts to make next year even more successful!

Granny‘s Attic 2019 Thank you

Months prior to Granny’s Attic we asked the residents for their donations for our sale. We were very pleased with your response. We had a ton of items to sell. More than most of us have seen in many years. Thank you.

The profit from Granny’s Attic was $9,259.74, which includes all the shed sales.

A great BIG THANK YOU to our shed Managers Doug & Debbie Campbell, Dennis & Ginny Gallagher, Ron Sears and Pat Rathburn.

Thanks to Clara Baringer, Jan Freeman, and Emily Mathurin for their work on the beautiful theme baskets, Diana Lutch for making the Cheer Baskets, and to everyone who donated items to make these both possible. Phyllis Crivelli for her months of pursuit getting the gift certificates. Thanks to Ginny Gallagher for taking pictures after everything was set up and putting them on Craig’s List to get extra people to come.

A special Thank you to all the strong helpful men who set up the tents and moved the furniture.

Gary Camp, Mickey Stewart, and Gene Henriksen for manning the lunch tent.

Another BIG THANKS to all our wonderful volunteers who worked so hard on Friday setting up all the items and Saturday selling everything to make this a success.

The following businesses generously donated gift certificates for our theme baskets: Munchies Dogs, Johnny’s Italian Restaurant, Elegant Nails, Benedict’s Restaurant, Julian’s Italian Restaurant, Eve’s Restaurant Peggy O Neills, Greek Corner, T&T Nails, Perfection Salon, Felice Pork Store & Deli. Craft Street and Chopsticks.

I also want to thank everyone who came to mix with friends and neighbors, to eat and help those who might not be as fortunate.

Congratulations to Linda Norris the winner of the 50/50 and thank you for coming.

Again, “thank you” to everyone from the bottom of my heart.
