The event The India International Trade Fair, ever since its inception in 1980 has been seen as a major event across

various sectors like manufacturing, lifesciences, etc for the Business community to interact and

showcase their strengths and expertise. It is a premier event (trade fair) organized by the India Trade

Promotion Organization (ITPO), the nodal trade promotion agency of the Government of India. The

event is held between 14 - 27 November every year at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India.

This annual event provides a common platform for the manufacturers, traders, exporters and importers,

buyers and consumers to interact and build relationships. The fair displays comprises a wide range of

products and services including Automobiles, Coir Products, Jute, Textiles, Garments, Household

Appliance, Kitchen Appliances, Processed food, Beverages, Confectionery, Drugs, Pharmaceuticals,

Chemicals, Cosmetics, Bodycare & Health care products, Telecommunication, Power sector, Electronic

Sector, Furniture, Home Furnishings, Sports Goods, Toys, Engineering Goods etc. The participation

figures verify the huge worldwide response of IITF.

With several enhanced facilities for the Indian and overseas visitors, the India International Trade Fair

offers a conducive environment for meaningful business generation.

The 33rd edition of the mega event, India International Trade Fair (IITF) was held during November 14-

27, 2013. The theme for this edition was “Inclusive Growth”. This concept encompasses equity, equality

of opportunity, and protection in market and employment transitions as essential ingredient of any

successful growth strategy.

Shri. Pranab Mukherjee: Hon’ble President of India

Hon’ble President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 33rd India International Trade Fair at

Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. He emphasized that there is an urgent need to incorporate skill

development and vocational training in the process of economic growth. Complimenting India Trade

Promotion Organization (ITPO), the President underlined the contribution of ITPO in providing an ideal

platform for the SMEs.

Shri. Anand Sharma, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry

and Textiles, Government of India In his key note address, Shri. Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Textiles

pointed out that the SME sector in India contributes 17 per cent to the country’s GDP and constitutes

40% of the manufacturing sector and around 40 percent to the net exports. He said that Japan’s

participation as a “Partner Country” reflects the strong bilateral relationship between India and Japan.

He said that Japan is a major foreign investor in India and has shown keen interest and extended

support in development of India’s infrastructure. He also added that we should also endeavor to

increase the share of manufacturing sector in the GDP of the country from the current 16 per cent to 26

per cent in by next decade and be a major employment provider.

Ms. Elizabeth Thabethe, Deputy Trade and Industry Minister of South

Africa

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Elizabeth Thabethe, Deputy Trade and Industry Minister of South Africa,

the Focus Country expressed her happiness over the participation of her country as a Focus Country for

the second time and the growing bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Mr. Yasuhisa Kawamura, Charge D’Affairs, Embassy of Japan

Mr. Yasuhisa said that India and Japan are bound by the shared values of democracies, respect for

human rights and rule of law. The volume of trade between India and Japan has increased 6 times

during the last 10 years. After signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)

between the two countries, the direct foreign investment from Japan to India has increased 7 times for

the last three years, and subsequently Japan has become the 3rd largest FDI in India. The number of

Japanese companies working with India reached the figure of 926 in 2012.

The Theme of IITF 2013 was Inclusive Growth with Bihar as Partner State and Japan as Partner Country.

This year, Odisha was the focus state and South Africa was the focus country. Overall, there were about

6,000 exhibitors from India and abroad participating in the fair, showcasing a wide range of items

ranging from electronics, decorative, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and accessories. There was

immense foreign participation in IITF 2013, with around 260 foreign exhibitors from 21 countries. The

participating countries included Japan, Thailand, Pakistan, Canada, Italy and the UAE.

This year, ITPO also introduced an ‘Innovation Pavilion’ to showcase young talents in business

entrepreneurship and economically viable new ideas.

Gujarat Pavilion at IITF 2013

The Gujarat Pavilion had for its visitors a slice of the vibrant and rich cultural heritage of Gujarat.

Exhibiting the different facets of its growth and development story, the pavilion showcased a newer

glimpse of the state for visitors.

Gujarat Pavilion’s entrance was marked with depiction of several avenues and initiative of the State

Government for promoting inclusive growth. This was divided into different sections like agriculture,

affordable housing, e-Gram initiative, health, education, tribal development, tourism, industries,

infrastructure, culture and handicrafts.

A grand visual of Mahatma Mandir, a Convention Centre in Gandhinagar at the entrance foyer reminded

the visitors of the philosophy and works of Mahatma Gandhi.
