This will be the second industrial exhibition that remains to be the most awaited event in South Gujarat. It’s pri- RAJAN PATEL, Project Director mary objective is to promote and en- courage well-organised expansion and development of SSI industries. Why Vapi ? : Well, it’s the Golden Corri- dor of Gujarat. Gujarat is the prominent state always noticed across India for its contribution in Industrial revolution, manufacturing sector and textiles. Prox- imity to the larger cities of Mumbai and Surat, the best available train and road services and the gateway for two union territories (UTs) on both the sides i.e. Daman and Silvassa have helped Vapi and surrounding areas in attaining their current level of industrial growth. Vapi happens to be one of the largest Industrial zones in India and is basically a chemical zone. About 70pc of the Indus- tries are chemical plants, mainly for chemi- cal distillation and the production of pes- ticides, dyes, dye intermediates and paints. Other major industries include paper, pack- aging, pharma, plastics, rubber, engineer- ing, textiles, wood, glass and food prod- ucts. There are various Industrial units in Silvassa (D&NH), Daman (UT), Valsad re- gion like Vapi, Sarigam, Umargam, Gundlav and Pardi having a collective strength of around 15,000 industrial units in this industrial belt. Many of them will be taking part in the Expo besides the ex- hibitors from the other states. What is the primary goal of yours to organise the Tech Vapi 2014?: The re- sponse to our Tech Vapi 2012 Exhibi- tion was overwhelming and we an- nounced Tech Vapi 2014. Tech Vapi fo- cus is on small and medium enterprises from engineering, machinery, machine tools, process equipment, electrical and electronics, instrumentation and auto- mation equipment. The participating companies can expect to generate tar- geted sales leads, future business devel- opment, demonstrate their products to appropriate audience, network with their key customers and upgrade their knowledge on new technologies and concepts in the market How do you think Tech Vapi 2014 will benefit the exhibitors, sponsors and the industry?: The participating companies can ex- pect to generate targeted sales leads, future busi- ness development, demonstrate their products to appro- priate audience, network with their key customers and upgrade their kn- owledge on new technologies and concepts in the market. We invite you to this event and take part in South Gujarat and Daman, Silvassa’s developing indus- trial scene making it the centre of this region. The exhibition will display state of art technology ready for deployment and help avoid redundancy. How many visitors you expect at Tech Vapi 2014? : The show promises to have an excellent turnout. Over 250 partici- pants are there and expected visitors are 40,000.. What was the volume of business gen- erated by the Tech Vapi held in 2012?: Business generated by exhibitors in the four-day event was: over Rs. 20 crore. Are there other countries participat- ing in Tech Vapi 2014 apart from India and if so can you please name them?:No. Is it an annual event or biannual event please explain about the frequency and the cities ?: It’s a biannual event. The next event in 2016. Is this exhibition targeted only for Indian market?: Yes. VISION OF GUJARAT G ujarat has registered an impressive indus trial development since its formation as a separate state in 1960 and that too, particu- larly in the last decade. The industrial sector at present comprises over 4.5 lakh micro, small and medium industries. As per the results of the Annual Survey of Industry (ASI), 2010-11 carried out by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), under Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Gujarat accounts for 16.92pc of fixed capital invest- ment, 17.25pc of gross output and 12.70pc of net value added in industrial sector in India. This sur- vey further reinforced the position of Gujarat as the most industrially developed state in India in respect of first ranking in industrial investment and sec- ond in terms of value of production and value ad- dition in industrial sector. Over the years, Gujarat has diversified its indus- trial base substantially. In 1960-61, textiles and auxiliaries were the major contributor to industrial economy of the state. In the span of over 52 years, the industrial spectrum has completely transformed and today 13 major industry groups together ac- count for 82.05pc of factories, 95.85pc of fixed capi- tal investment, 90.09pc of value of output and 93.21pc of value addition in the state’s industrial economy. In the recent years, refined petroleum products have emerged as one of the largest indus- trial groups having 32.19pc share, followed by chemicals having 17.92pc share. Other important groups Basic Metal(13.97pc ), food products (2.31pc), textiles (6.45pc), machinery and equip- ment (4.04pc ), non-metallic mineral based prod- ucts (4.96pc), plastic and rubber products (1.83pc ) and fabricated metal products (2.42pc). The indus- tries in Gujarat produce a wide variety of products. Over a period of time, Gujarat has also succeeded in widening its industrial base. At the time of in- ception in 1960, the industrial development was confined only to four major cities namely Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat and Rajkot and some isolated locations such as Mithapur and Valsad. Today, almost all the districts of the state have wit- nessed industrial development in varying degree.Such a massive scale of industrial develop- ment has been possible on account of judicious ex- ploitation of natural resources, such as minerals, oil and gas, marine, agriculture and animal wealth. The discovery of oil and gas in Gujarat has played an important role in setting up of petroleum refin- eries, fertiliser plants and petrochemical complexes. During the same period, the state government has also established a strong institutional network. Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), established industrial estates providing developed plots and ready built-up sheds to industries all across the state. Institutions were also set up to pro- vide term finance, assistance for purchase of raw materials, plant and equipment and marketing of products. Later, District Industries Centres (DICs) were set up in all the districts to provide assistance in setting up industrial units in the form of support services. The state also developed infrastructure facilities required for industries, such as power, roads, ports, water supply and technical education institutions. The government also introduced in- centive schemes, from time -to-time, to promote in- dustries mainly in the under-developed areas of the state to correct regional imbalances. All these ini- tiatives have made Gujarat to emerge as the highly industrialised state in the country today. R.R.Pandhyan, Managing Director Advt.

Gujarat marches aheadGujarat’s unstoppable development journey

moves on. Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who took over charge on Oct 7, 2001, has

completed 12 years at the helm of the state’s gover-nance. He has now entered the 13th year. UnderModi’s dynamic leadership, Gujarat’s developmentjourney has established unique identity and stat-ure in the country and the world across.

Gujarat’s industrial development has attractedthe entire world and it has become the growth en-gine of the nation. Having five per cent populationof India, Gujarat’s achievements are exemplary andcommendable. For entire country’s share, the statecontributes around 98pc of sodaash, 80pc of dia-mond polish and exports, salt production 75pc,petrochemicals 62pc, crude oil 53pc , chemicals51pc , cargo handling 35pc and natural gas (offshore)30pc. Because of an investor-friendly environment,Gujarat has been able to attract investment for oversix Vibrant Summits.

Of the total DMIC corridor, state has around 60pcshare of it and 40pc of freight corridor passes fromGujarat and to leverage such opportunities Gujaratbecame first state to develop Special EconomicZones (SEZs). In Dholera it is building a city on thescale of an international business hub and GIFTCity in Gandhinagar. For over 135 projects, the statehas implemented plans in ports, power, road, wa-ter and other internal infrastructure needs worthRs 1 lakh-crore and these all are being done underPPP model.

In agriculture sector, Gujarat has taken so manyinitiatives giving due importance to different aspectsof the field. Linking knowledge and research of agrivarsities to the farm under land to lab project and

even introduced soil health card. With all such allround efforts, today it has annual agriculture pro-duce touching worth Rs. 1.11 lakh-crore which oncewas just Rs 9,000 crore. While cotton productionhas jumped from 21 lakh bales to 1.20 crore bales,42 lakh farmers have got soil health card and 1.25crore animals are being checked under healthcamps. Entire nation’s agriculture growth rate isaround 3.5pc while Gujarat is marching ahead ofall over 10.7pc rate of growth. In the beginning 40years of Gujarat, only 6.30 lakh agriculture powerconnections were given while in last one decade ithas given four lakh new connections. Similarly, theamount of electricity subsidy for farmers went upfrom Rs 300 crore to Rs 3000 crore. Completed ca-nal work of Narmada for over 458 km and of 38planned, works for 29 canals have been finished.Till date over Rs 35,000 crore have been spent onthese works and generated electricity of 2160 croreunit from its hydro power plants.

For the development of service sector and mak-ing it people-oriented, state has done micro levelplanning to take the fruits of development to eachperson of the state. It has made health servicesspeedy and efficient. Over 500 ambulances underthe 108 emergency services reach the affectedpeople within few minutes and it has taken the prob-lems of malnutrition head on to eradicate it andunder this different projects are being implementedfor strengthening, implementing and monitoring ofthe schemes and results. It has given 24 hour three-phase power supply and initiated mass programmesfor school enrollment and also to promote girl childeducation. Empowered the panchayats and becamethe first state to decentralise the powers.
