A guitar amplifier, or amp; is designed to make the sound of an acoustic or electric guitar

louder so that it may be heard.

• It was first introduced in the 1930’s• Was not originally made for electronic

instruments• Was popularized for ‘Hawaiian’ music

Manufacturers

• Behringer

• Peavey

• Marshall

• Harmony

Advancements in Amps

• First used with Bass guitars and keyboards.

• Other instruments produce wider frequency.

• Also need a Woofer and Sub-Woofer.

Different types of Amps

• Acoustic Amplifiers

• Bass Amplifiers

• Hard-rock Amplifiers

On the Job

• Guitars in Jazz band.

• Electric Upright basses.

• Can also be used for keyboards.
