Guido meets the Fonz Saturday, March 7
Tickets on sale starting Sunday, February 16
Don’t miss the 17th edition of Guido’s Fine Italian Dinner and Variety Show. This year’s
theme is “Guido meets the Fonz”. Break out your Poodle Skirts, Saddle Shoes and
Leather jackets for a fun night of food, variety acts and silent auction. The night starts
out with what one reviewer last year said was “the best darn Italian dinner you can get
in Rescue California”! We move on to the best desserts ever made right here locally by
our FUMC women. The variety show happens right after dinner with some of the best
acts in town! All this for $15 at the door or $45 for a family of any size. The price goes up
to $20 per person the night of the event. This is not only a great night of FUMC
fellowship, but also a fundraiser for SSP and the Foothills men’s group. If you have an act
you would like to perform, see Paul Hougland, talent scout. Questions? Call Guido:

Ash Wednesday Service
& Pancake Supper Wednesday, February 26
Our journey toward Easter begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26. That evening we
will also hold our annual pancake supper starting at 5:30pm, bring a decadent topping
to share. Thank you to our Doorkeepers Men’s group for hosting the supper again this
year! Our evening worship service, led by Ed Lawson, will begin at 7pm.
CFYM Events
A Word from Katie In January, our Sunday school classes re-visited some essential lessons from the Bible. K-2 focused on Baptism through the use of
Godly Play materials. 3-5th worked their way through the first book of the Bible and Junior and Senior high focused on
Accountability. January was also the first SSP fundraiser of the year. I would like to thank everyone who came to Bunco in support
of our SSP youth. The night was fun for all and your support appreciated.
February 1: Valentine’s Day Service Project. During first service and combined Sunday School class the children and youth will be making valentines cards that will be distributed to the children at UC Davis Hospital.
February 15, 5:30-9pm: Parents Night Out. Due to this months parents night out falling in line with the sweetheart dinner there is a time change. We have extended parents night hours in hopes that all couples who want to attend the dinner can. You do not need to attend the sweetheart dinner in order to use this months parents night out. Dinner and activities will be provided for your child.
Praise Pal Activity. This month’s Praise Pal Activity is to give your partner a valentine. If you need a card come see me as I have a few in my office.
Confirmation. I was privileged to have a meeting with two confirmation students, their parents, Pastor Mike and members of the CFYM board to discuss ways to enhance the confirmation process. I have decided to make a few changes to the existing confirmation process. These changes included:
Confirmation will once again ONLY be open to high school students.
Confirmation will no longer be held during Sunday School instead it will be held from 1-3pm on Sundays starting March 15 (there will be no confirmation on Easter Sunday). During this time students will receive confirmation lessons covering six categories, our journey, our history and heritage, our life together, our beliefs, our theology, and our faith and calling.

Ephesians 4:2-3
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the act by which persons who were baptized make their first public statement of their declaration or profession of faith. In this sense they confirm their faith. Confirmation is per-formed in preparation for reception into full mem-bership in The United Methodist Church.
The Confirmation program in The United Method-ist Church is a time of intentional preparation. It gives teens the opportunity to reflect on the most basic tenants of our faith and gives them a safe environment to ask questions. Confirmation helps youth to investigate to depths of the faith and helps them begin to understand what it means to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and to make their first public profession of faith.

2020 Budget
& New Building Presentation Sunday, February 9 at 3pm
At their meeting December meeting our Church Council reviewed and
adopted a 2020 general operating budget of approximately $360k and
simultaneously discussed the frustration many donors and supporters of
the New Building project are feeling due to a lack of tangible progress.
Pastor Mike plans to facilitate an informational meeting for the
congregation on Sunday, February 9 at 3pm for those interested in
learning more about this year’s budget and the current status of the New
Building project.
Empty Bowls Friday, February 21
On February 21, at the Oak Ridge High School
cafeteria, you can join in a wonderful community
event. Buy a bowl of soup served in a hand
decorated bowl. Eat some warm, tasty bread.
Then take the beautiful bowl home with you.
You’ll enjoy live entertainment throughout the
evening.
Funds are being raised for the Twin Lakes Food
Bank, which serves the needy in Folsom, El Dorado
Hills, and Granite Bay; and also to the Upper Room
in Placerville. You can help by purchasing tickets,
making a donation, or becoming an event sponsor.
Simply go to http://emptybowlsffh.org/ for more information, or to buy tickets.
MLK Interfaith Service Project We had 30 folks from Foothills UMC participate in the Rise Against Hunger meal packing event on Saturday, January 18. Over 150
volunteers from Faith Episcopal, Latter Day Saints, Muslim Community of Folsom, and our congregation spent two hours packing
meals that will help provide nourishment for 99 children for an entire year. Thank you to the members of our Youth Group who
helped lead our participation in this effort this year!
