    researc+ is proposed, +ose purpose is to s+o t+e temperature

    distriution for a to-sta#e planetary transmission, +avin# a #ear ratio of i45, usin# a 67!R A58' t+ermal camera0 9+e tests

    ere done at t+e +i#+est speed availale for t+e input s+aft and

    +i#+est availaile load at t+e output s+aft, for 1' minutes0 Based

    on t+e otained results, some optimi:ation strate#ies can e made

    concernin# t+e minimi:ation of temperatures and ener#y losses,t+erefore improvin# t+e overall efficiency of planetary

    transmissions0

    1 INTRODUCTION ¶)

    9+e e3perimental researc+ concernin# t+e t+ermal

    re#ime of planetary speed reducers is important in

    order to identify t+e areas t+at ac+ieve +i#+er 

    temperatures0 9+e +eat produced is due to t+e friction

     eteen t+e #ear flan2 profiles, t+e friction at t+e

     earin#s of t+e planetary transmission and t+e friction

    correspondin# to t+e luricant used0 9+e +eat t+at

    results from t+ese t+ree factors is dissipated toardst+e outside enviroment, usin# conduction, convection

    and radiation0 9+erefore, a natural coolin# occurs at

    t+e surface of t+e planetary transmission0 ;eepin# in

    mind t+e sensivity of t+e sealin#s of t+e planetary

    transmission, and t+e effect of t+e t+ermal dilatation

    over t+e sealin# itself, it is important to 2no t+e

    surface temperature of t+e planetary transmission, as

    ell as t+ermal #radients0 Also, t+e increase of t+e

    temperature reac+ed durin# operation of t+e planetary

    transmission leads to vapori:ation of t+e luricant,

    leadin# in turn to intense friction and ear, t+ermal

    crac2s and sei:ure of t+e #ears t+at form t+e planetary

    transmission0 9+e t+ermal sei:ure p+enomenon

    appears at +i#+ values of perip+eral speeds, t+e

    decision factor ein# t+e temperature increase at

    contact areas, t+e distruction of t+e luricant film and

    micro-eldin# of t+e spots in contact0 As t+e result of 

    t+e relative motion of t+e toot+ flan2s t+ese micro-

    eldments rea2 and t+en form a#ain at a ne

    toards t+e suseuent sta#es, since t+e perip+eral

    speeds are reduced y t+e ratio of t+e first sta#e, and

    t+erefore +ave a lo influence on t+e overall t+ermal
