With recorded books and Kindle and the decline of periodicals, libraries have had to reinvent themselves -- and have done a good enough job for branches to be thriving in Leader neighborhoods.

Not only are they a place to borrow books in any form, but they serve as gathering places and a site for computer access, for classes for all ages and for read-ing clubs of all genres.

By using their free Library Power Card that works in both the city of Houston Library System and the Harris County Library System, patrons can check out materials at any library from an extensive collection of adult and childrens books in various languages, videos, CDs, DVDs, books on tape, newspapers and maga-zines. Patrons also have access to copi-ers, printers and Internet, participate in story times, teen programs and computer classes.

For information, classes, programs, ser-vices, and resources at the Houston Public Library, call 832-393-1313 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org.

Welcome to Harting Automotive. When Jack Moore took ownership of Harting Automotive in 1999, he wanted customers to feel that they were in a shop that was friendly, trustworthy, honest, and provided quality workmanship. Over the last twelve years, those goals seem to be working. Harting Automotive gets new customers every week, the majority coming as referrals from its loyal customers.

Harting Automotive has been a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau for the last eleven years and each year has received the BBB Gold Star Award. Harting earned the prestigious BBB Award for Excellence for 2009-2012, which puts Harting in a small group of Houston businesses that consistently provide quality customer service, as well as providing quality auto repairs. Harting Automotive is also a Triple AAA Texas Approved Auto Repair Facility and earns a 100% Customer Satifaction Award year after year.

Leading the team at Harting Automotive is John Collins, an ASE Double Master Certi ed Technician with L1 Certi cation. With his 20+ years experience, training, and hunger to learn new technologies, John keeps the Harting team on top of their game. He is responsible for most diagnostic procedures and quality control for the entire shop.

Billy Fagg has been with Harting Automotive for over 13 years. His career started in the military as an aircraft mechanic and he entered the auto repair business 18 years ago. Billy is a diligent ASE Certi ed Technician who strives to provide excellent service for all of Hartings customers. Steve Perrin recently joined the team at Harting Automotive and brings with him over 20 years of Ford dealership experience. Clarence Thomas brings many years of experience in the auto repair business as well as a hardworking attitude and the ability to handle any problem you might have. Marcos Olivera is a general technician who does oil changes, tire repairs and operates Hartings customer shuttle van. Marcos is friendly and always attentive to the customers needs. He is a real asset to the team. Meg, Jacks wife of 42 years, is a retired school teacher and handles most of the accounting duties. Meg likes to interact with the customers whenever possible. Her warm smile and friendly personality always makes customers feel welcome. You can call Harting for ALL of your automotive needs.

Urban Harvest is a community organization that supports many small gardens in the Houston area and provides the food to many farmers markets around the city, including downtown, Highland Village, and the HCC West Loop campus. To volunteer or nd a garden or farmers mar-ket near you, call 713-880-5540 or visit www.urbanharvest.org.

Airline Farmers Market is the antithesis of the small farmers markets. Its a giant, open-air, permanent installation at 2520 Airline Drive where you can buy the same produce thats delivered daily to local grocers and restaurants. Cash-only; take plenty of small bills. There are also barrels full of whole spices, braids of garlic, herbal remedies, potted plants, taco trucks in the back, and a mercado full of Mexican crafts and souvenirs. In recent years, the Farmers Market has spawned a street full of food-related retail along Airline includ-ing Mexican bakeries (panade-rias), cheese and spice shops and kitchen supply outlets.

Garden Oaks/Oak Forest Farmers Market, 980 Wakeeld Drive, is tiny and off the beaten

path. It appears magically each Saturday morning with a hand-ful of vendors setting up in the parking lot of Petrol Station, with whatever produce is fresh, and eggs laid just hours before that are available with locally pro-duced items in a cooked-on-the-spot breakfast taco. A recommen-dation of our Leader Eater food connoisseur.

Onion Creek Farmers Market sets up from 8 a.m.-noon Sat-urdays in the parking lot of this Heights gathering spot at 3106 White Oak Drive. There is always fresh produce, some baked goodies and frequently, jewelry and crafts.
