This toothbrush moustache style belongs to the famous comedian Charlie Chaplin. It became iconic due to the popularity of his theatrical and film works even though this lip rug is actually fake. It is even named after him.

Unfortunately, this fashion was soon deemed to be distasteful when Hitler started to sport this particular facial style. Since then, anyone with the tooth mo’ is subjected to ridicule including Michael Jordan in the Hanes commercial. It has been said that Hitler copied Charlie’s style to be likeable but that story is not true.

In the American drama film There Will Be Blood, Daniel Day-Lewis portrays gold miner Daniel Plainview who dove into the world of oil business after discovering black gold. Known for his method acting, he spent the entire production living in the mind of Plainview. He did so even when interacting with his own family which both amused and annoyed his kids.

To complete the image, Daniel also grew an English-style moustache that some say added more character to this award-winning role. If you don’t agree, he will drink your milkshake!

Who doesn’t know this guy? With that signature smirk beneath the handlebar moustache, Danny Trejo is one of Hollywood’s go-to ‘Bad Guy’. The Machete Kills star was once a real life tough guy who went through drug addiction and prison time. Since he got out of penitentiary in 1969, he turned his life around by counselling teenage drug addicts.

He used to be a boxer as well and was approached to teach actor Eric Roberts the sport for the Runaway Train. Then director Andrei Konchalovsky offered him the part of the boxing coach which became his acting debut role.

Hulk Hogan is one of wrestling’s most charismatic and popular professional wrestler who sports one of the most iconic facial looks, the white Biker moustache. The Hulkster has gone from wrestling to acting and even dabbled in music with The Wrestling Boot Band.

If you’re a true Hulkamaniac, you would probably enjoy that. If not, what’cha gonna go, brother? What’cha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!

James Franco is the man who wears many hats with the scruffy moustache; actor, director, producer, screenwriter, teacher and author. He was also a good sport while being the subject of mock and ridicule on Comedy Central Roast in September this year. Among the roaster panel were his friends Jonah Hill, Andy Samberg and host Seth Rogen. His latest book Actors Anonymous is a collection of short stories and personal insights about the world of acting and fame.

He is also not afraid to speak up when the public criticizes him for anything like the infamous Oscar hosting with Anne Hathaway in 2011.

John Waters

If you think the pencil ‘stache looks creepy, you’re not alone. But this American movie director and actor is not at all fazed by the criticism. In fact, John Waters takes pride in it. He even made a cameo appearance in the music video for The Creep by The Lonely Island featuring Nicki Minaj where they copied his signature look.

Known for his films that are full of sick and twisted scenes, vulgar language and morbid humour, the ‘Sultan of Sleaze’ has kept the look since the early 70s. He shaves it every day and clips it twice a week. So much work for a really thin mo’!

Robert Downey Jr.

Rocking the chinstrap beard, goatee and moustache combo, Robert Downey Jr. has come to be known as one of the most versatile actors today. He made his acting debut in his father’s film Pound as a puppy when he was five years old. Unfortunately, he was also introduced to drugs by his father at an early age which led him to a life of addiction and then imprisonment during adulthood. Currently, the Iron Man star is caught in another web of controversy. This time, it’s with former co-star Terrence Howard who blamed him for the cause of broken paycheck promises in the superhero movie franchise.

Despite that, Robert is still respected for turning his life around and is not only recognized as an award-winning actor. In 2004, he released a music album called “The Futurist”. Some say he sounds like the English singer, Sting.

Sacha Baron Cohen

Famous for putting on different characters, Sacha Baron Cohen is a comic actor who actually used to be a model and had appeared in a number of fashion magazines. He is known to take risks in his acting work like the movie in which he played a foreign correspondent from Kazakhstan named Borat. To complete the profile, he grew a bushy moustache that is reminiscent of the one that legendary rocker Freddie Mercury had.

The reception that the controversial film had was split down the middle; either you love it or hate it. But maybe it’s this resemblance to the Queens vocalist’s facial look that helped to increase its star power.

Tom Selleck

Tom Selleck has got to be the No. 1 mo’ bro. His bushy lip rug is so iconic that it becomes its own character in any production he is involved in. It got an honourable mention in TV shows like Friends where he played one of the main characters’ big love interest. It even has its own Facebook page simply called “Tom Selleck’s Mustache”.

This thick moustache is considered to be the manliest facial style of all. After accepting his role in the CBS cop drama Blue Bloods, he expressed his thoughts to shave it off but the TV network bosses said no.

Salvador Dali

Painter, surrealist and kind of crazy. Salvador Dali is an eccentric Spanish artist who rose to international fame for his paintings in 1928. His paintings mostly reflected his love for his home in Port Lligat with his wife Gala. Those silly-looking whiskers over his lips added a brilliant touch to his strange personality, making him one of the most iconic artists. He wore huge capes and used walking sticks as part of everyday attire and even referred to himself in the third person during interviews.

One of his most well-known art works is The Persistance of Memory which is the soft or melting watches that depict the essence of surrealism. He was the leader of the Surrealist Movement until his expulsion in 1934 because he was not particularly interested in politics.
