About ESASO

The project to build ESASO started in 2007. ESASO was founded in Lugano in September 2008.

It is an independent Swiss Foundation, based in theItalian part of Switzerland.

ESASO is supported by the Republic and Cantone ofTicino, Lugano City Council, Università della Svizzeraitaliana, and the Swiss Society of Ophthalmology.

Fellowship 1/2

ESASO Fellowships enable young ophthalmologists who have participated in ESASO Modules to acquire expertise and hands-on experience in a particular subspecialty. Generally, ESASO offers four different types of fellowships.

1. The ESASO Visiting Fellowship, a four-week program, offers participants the opportunity to hone their cataract surgical skills at the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad, India.

2. The four-week ESASO Observership enables participants to explore a particular field of ophthalmology further, perhaps prior to applying for a longer one year fellowship.

3. The one-year ESASO Fellowships offer the most talented participants inthe ESASO Modules the opportunity to acquire hands-on surgical expertiseat a prestigious affiliate institution in order to lay the groundwork for aninternational career in ophthalmology.

4. The Clinical Product Development Fellowshipenables talented and motivated participants to develop a career in research and development in industry.
