    Guardian Angels Arrest Force

    As the name implies, Arrest Force is only to be used when arresting someone forcommitting a crime (a misdemeanor crime in your presence or a felony crime withreasonable suspicion). ALWAYS assume the perp is armed. The primary reason fortaking a perp down to the ground is to enable you to control and search the perp forweapons. The secondary goal is to immobilize him or keep him from running away.

    The takedown should be fluid, sudden, and forceful. The perp should have no timeto retrieve or even think about retrieving his concealed weapon. Your body should alwaysbe closely touching the perp so that you can feel his body maneuvering to retrieve aweapon. The goal is not to injure the perp, however, you should apply sufficient force totemporarily shock him to give you time to control and search him before he can think to

    react or resist. This is the minimum force necessary to make an arrest and keep you safe.

    1. Grab his right wrist by placing both sets of fingers over his wrist (as if you wereabout to put him in an inside wristlock).

    Shoulder Twist To Rear Headlock Takedown

    1. You have stopped his left shoulder with your right hand. You are swinging himaround by grabbing his right shoulder with your left hand.

    2. Place him in a headlock with your right arm. Do not choke him. Push your right

    hip into his back while pulling his head back.3. Quickly move your right hip away and drop to the ground. He should dropstraight down to the ground with you. Keep your arm around his neck forcontrol.

    Guardian Angels Dynamic Takedowns

    Shooting

    When you shoot to take someone down from the front, DO NOT look down to theground. The target can either knee you in the head or put you in a guillotine choke.

    Always keep your head up and look at your target. Also keep your arms up andforward to deflect any strike. You may also want to start high and look the target straight inthe eyes to distract him. At the very last moment, shoot low.

    You may also jab at him right before you shoot in order to distract him. Anotherdistraction method is to shoot leading with a low front kick.

    1. Distract the perp by keeping your hands high and looking straight at his eyes.2. At the last moment, shoot down. Place your right foot right in between his legs.

    The only reason you will perform a standing search is if the perp is beingcooperative and does not resist. You NEVER want to take down a perp if he is being fullycooperative and does not resist.

    Order the perp to intertwine his fingers behind his head. Press his index and ringfingers together. Order the perp to spread his legs wide apart. Pull his arms backwards tokeep him off balance.

    Guardian Angels Ground Grappling

    Ground Grappling

    Royce Gracie and the Gracie family forever changed martial arts and fightingtournaments. In the beginning of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Royce Gracie tookopponents to the ground and from a supposedly inferior position lying on his back, he wasable to frustrate, exhaust, and then force his opponents to quit.

    Since then, every serious martial artist and fighting athlete studies the art of groundgrappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or takes lessons directly from the Gracie family. TheGuardian Angels have adopted ground grappling tactics for a number of reasons:

    For one-on-one fighting, few styles beat ground grappling.

    Most street fighters do not know how to fight on the ground. Ground grappling appears less violent and aggressive to the general public.

    With sufficient training, a ground grappler can more easily avoid seriously injuringan opponent compared with striking.

    Ground Grappling Fundamental Training

    Ground grapplers almost use the opposite tactics as strikers. Strikers use largemuscles for large movements. Ground grapplers use small muscles for small movements.Strikers use flurries and combinations. Ground grapplers use patience and constantlysearch for opportunities. Strikers like a certain distance from an opponent. Groundgrapplers try to eliminate any gap between bodies. Strikers exhale when striking. Groundgrapplers use short, rapid breaths.

    When training for ground grappling, train with weights, sacks of sand, or a personon your body. Practice hip movement. Keep your arms close to your body. Practicemoving weights around on your back.

    Ground Grappling Exercises

    One Angel should practice trying to escape and run away while the other Angel triesto keep the first one on the ground.

    While two Angels are grappling, other Angels should intermittently drop tennis ballson their faces to make sure they are paying attention to their surroundings.

    Close Quarters

    Most kids play fight. They playfully kick and hit each other as well as practiceblocks and grabs. Most people have some rudimentary stand up fighting skill. Very fewkids, however, play wrestle. Wrestling is simply too intimate and uncomfortable. In order

    to become a skilled ground grappler, you must simply get used to holding someone closeto your body. At first, you may feel extremely uncomfortable and unusual especially in theguard. You should be wearing a protective cup in the first place, and this may make youfeel more comfortable too. Wearing a protective cup is also mandatory if you are grapplingwith a female. Females may feel even more uncomfortable; however, this is life and death

    training. While females should start out grappling with other females, they should alsopractice grappling with males and vice versa.Start out easy and light. You should gradually progress to more intense and closer

    contact. If someone feels uncomfortable or light headed, they may call time and take abreak. If for whatever reason a person feels extremely uncomfortable grappling, or afemale refuses to grapple with males, they may choose not to participate.

    Since the vast majority of people out there feel naturally uncomfortable grappling onthe ground, this gives us a tremendous advantage over them. They will overexert energytrying to get out and eventually burn out. Meanwhile, we gain superior position and controlover them, allowing us to more quickly search for weapons.

    Headlocks

    Headlocks should be used as a last resort against a non-compliant or extremelyviolent perp. Be extremely careful. You are NOT choking the perp. You are temporarilyconstricting the flow of blood to his head. This will be uncomfortable enough for him tostop resisting, or it could simply knock him unconscious. DO NOT keep him in a headlockfor more than 10 seconds.

    Front Headlock

    1. Place your left elbow under his neck.

    2. Place your right elbow to the left of his neck. Grab your right biceps with yourleft hand.

    3. Grab forehead with your right hand. Squeeze your elbows together.

    Rear Naked

    1. You can maintain leverage by bringing both your arms under his armpits andgrabbing his wrists. Pull his wrists down.

    2. If his head is down, pull it up by the forehead.

    3. Place your left elbow under his neck, directly under his chin. Grab your rightbiceps.4. Bring your right forearm behind his neck.5. Squeeze your elbows together.

    Protect Against a Body Slam from the Rear Naked

    If you apply the rear naked on a standing perp,

    he will try to throw you off. If he tries to throwyou forward, wrap your legs around the perpswaist or thighs.

    If he tries to slam you backwards into a wall orthe ground, bring one knee against the small ofhis back and bend your leg so that your foot

    protects you from the wall or ground.

    Side Jaw Lock

    1. From a side mount, bring your left forearm under the perps left ear along his jawline. Grab your right biceps.

    2. Place your right forearm under the perps right ear along his jaw line. Squeezeyour elbows together.

    Collar Choke

    1. Grab the back of his collar with your right hand. Try to grab as much material aspossible.

    2. Cross your left hand over your right arm, and grab the back of his collar. Pull

    your right hand straight down while pulling your left hand to your left.

    Triangle Lock

    1. From the guard, climb up the perps back. Bring your left leg on top of the perpsright shoulder.

    2. Trap your left foot under the back of your right knee. Pull his left arm toward

    your body.3. Bend your right leg over your left foot using your right hand.

    Defense from the Ground

    1. If you are on the ground and the perp is on your right side, rest on your rightside. Rest on your right elbow, hip, and leg. Keep your left arm and leg raisedfor protection.

    2. If the perp moves to your left side, switch to your left side and keep your rightarm and leg raised for protection.3. If the perp comes directly over you, lie on your back with both arms and legs

    raised for protection. Always keep your limbs bent.

    Takedown from Ground

    1. Grab the perps left wrist with your left hand and bring him toward you. Put yourleft foot against the perps right knee.

    2. Grab the perps left ankle with your right hand. Spread the perps legs apart.

    3. When the perp falls, do not let go of him.4. Quickly cover him with a full mount.

    shoulder for leverage. Move your entire body around to his left side while pullinghis arm up.

    1. From a full mount, protect yourself from strikes.2. Grab the perps right wrist with both hands.3. Bring your left foot close to the perps right shoulder. Stand up and pull the

    perps right arm up.4. Bring the perps shoulders up off the ground while twisting his wrist in aclockwise direction.

    5. With your left hand, press his right shoulder down to the ground.6. Bring your body down on the perps right shoulder and twist his right arm behind

    his back.
