"Getting Things Done" (GTD for short) is a system developed by David Allen a few years ago. It is basically to do lists on steroids. I will share how I implement it after years of searching for the Holy Grail of systems. At the end I will link it to CRM and the links in making your organisation more effective.

Quotes● Anything that does not belong where it is, the way it is, is an “open loop”

pulling your attention.● If you don’t have a good system for filing bad ideas, you probably don’t have

one for filing good ones, either.● Without a next action, there remains a potentially infinite gap between current

reallity and what you need to do.● The sense of anxiety and guilt doesn’t come from having too much to do; it’s

the automatic result of breaking agreements with yourself.● Airtight organisation is required to remain on the broader horizon.● If your filing system isn’t fast, functional, and fun, you’ll resist the whole

process.

Quotes 2● Often the only way to make a hard decision is to come back to the purpose.● You have more to do than you can possibly do. You just need to feel good

about your choices.● You’ll be surprised how many two-minute actions you can perform even on

your most critical projects. It requires much less energy to maintain e-mail at zero base than at thousand base.

● We need to transform all the “stuff” we’re trying to organise into actionable stuff we need to do.

● You need to set up systems and tricks that get you to think about your projects and situations more frequently, more easily, and more in depth.

Quotes 3● A few seconds a day is usually all you need for review, AS LONG AS you’re

looking at the right things at the right time.● Clear the deck, create a context, and do some creative project thinking. You’ll

be way ahead of most people.● There is no need ever to lose an idea about a project, theme or topic.● It is ok to decide not to decide - AS LONG AS you have a not-to-decide

system.● There is no reason ever to have the same though twice, unless you like

having that thought.● Your best thoughts about work won’t happen while you’re at work.

Quotes 4● Once you know how to process your stuff and what to organise, you really just

need to create and manage lists.● Moment to moent collecting, thinking, processing, and organising are

challenging enough; always ensure that you have the tools to make them as easy as possible.

● You increase your productivity and creativity exponentially when you think about the right time and have the tools to capture your value added thinking.

● “What does this mean to me?” What do I want to be true about it?” “What’s the next step required to make that happen?” THese are the cornerstone questions we must answer, at some point, about everything. This thinking, and the tools that support is, will serve you in ways you may not yet imagine.

Quotes 5● If the project is still on your mind, there’s more thinking and planning to do.● Most people feel good about their work when they’ve cleaned up, closed up,

clarified, and renegotiated all their agreements with themselves and others. Do this weekly instead of yearly.
