Transcript of GSS Energy Summary
GSS Mobile Pyrolysis System Although pyrolysis has been known for a long 5me to be an ideal solu5on for the conversion of troublesome waste materials into useful energy cleanly, it has also long been unknown how to achieve this on a commercial scale efficiently and cost effec5vely un5l now. GSS Energy has designed and produced a process to achieve this. Furthermore GSS Energy has been successful in making this process in a compact and portable form achieving levels of efficiency that create a ra5o of 1:1. That is one tonne of waste into the process can produce 1MW of electrical energy, dependent on the energy content of the waste feedstock.
GSS’s process is a constant feed process. The process can handle high pollu5on hazardous waste materials because there are no combus5on emissions. The feedstock is exposed to secondary heat in the absence of oxygen, therefore there is no combus5on. The feedstock is reduced to its basic chemical components of Hydrogen and Carbon. The Hydrogen is a clean fuel gas, used to create heat. The process is highly efficient, 0.5 tonnes of waste will produce approximately 2.5 MW of heat energy with no pollu5ng emissions. This heat energy can be used to produce energy in many different forms including electricity. GSS have specialised in making this unique process not only cost effec5ve and efficient but also compact enough to fit into 40R ISO shipping container, resul5ng in a highly mobile clean waste to energy conversion plant.
The process is en5rely self-‐sufficient. The fuel gas required to provide the heat to sustain the process is bled from the gas produced by the process, thus the process produces its own fuel, there is no need for external fuel input except for the short 5me to start the plant from cold, when a small amount of ancillary fuel is required un5l the process temperature is reached. The whole plant is automa5c and computer controlled. The process is highly flexible and responsive and can be readily and quickly adapted for varying feedstocks.
PYROLYSIS Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposi5on of organic material at elevated temperatures in the absence of oxygen. It involves the simultaneous change of the chemical composi5on and physical phase of a waste material, conver5ng the waste to its simplest gaseous form of Hydrogen and Carbon The word is coined from the Greek-‐derived elements pyr "fire" and lysis "separa5ng".
In the UK, in common with most countries of Europe the electricity genera5on margin has fallen over the last three years from 17% to 3%. This margin is the measure of security of supply, the defini5on of which is if 3% (current margin) of available genera5on were to break down at any 5me, there would be power cuts. There is therefore an urgent need for more energy produc5on with a short lead 5me. To further exacerbate the situa5on there is also an issue with available fuel. There is a global drive to reduce the use of tradi5onal hydro carbon fuels which, when burned, produce significant pollu5ng materials that are the source of Greenhouse gases and subsequent damage to the environment.
GSS Mobile Pyrolysis System
The current technology currently being employed for commercial renewable energy is predominantly wind and solar. The energy created by these methods is “peaky” and not base load. This energy is available only when the natural elements of wind and Sun are available in reliable quan55es and quality, this oRen does not coincide with the 5mes of peak energy demand. Alterna5ve fuels must be found. Where beber to look than at the mountains of waste produced in modern life, which, in itself is also equally as damaging to the environment. Dealing with this waste is also extremely costly. GSS see other people’s waste as our fuel. Wouldn’t it be a perfect solu5on to consume expensive, pollu5ng waste to fuel base load energy produc5on cleanly with no harmful, pollu5ng emissions? That is what GSS energy has been established to achieve. GSS have harnessed the technology of pyrolysis.
