The Shestormz had a great first year, and can’t wait to get started on the next season! Are you going to be a Girl Scout Cadette in the fall of 2016 who is interested in exploring robotics, technology, and creative problem solving? Do you want to make new friends who like the same stuff as you do? How about working on a team project in a friendly, competitive atmosphere? Then this might be the place for you! FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams work together over the course of several months to build a robot that can complete a challenge course and do a research project on a contemporary real-world issue related to that challenge. They then compete against other teams in the area based on their robot’s skills, their project, and how well they work together. As there is only room for 10 girls on the Shestormz, we will be holding a lottery for any open spots for 2016-2017. Registration for the lottery opens online on June 1, 2016 and closes on June 19, 2016. New team members will be notified during the week of June 27, 2016. GENERAL CAMP INFO

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) operates two American Camp Association (ACA) accredited summer camps: Resident Camp Lou Henry Hoover in Middleville, NJ and The OVAL Day Camp in Maplewood, NJ.

GSHNJ camps build girls of courage, confidence and character, the core pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. We offer the opportunity for girls to explore nature and the outdoors, the arts, STEM, and financial literacy. Our camp programs are designed to be fun, interactive, and challenging.

Girls entering grades 1-12 can choose from one or both of the camps operated by GSHNJ. All girls are welcome to participate in our summer camp programs regardless of race, religion, physical ability, economic status, or national origin. Our camp program is based on the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Safe and Secure: GSHNJ camps are a place where every girl can feel safe, valued, and supported while making new friends. Camp staff is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all campers. GSHNJ camps follow the program standards for health, safety, and security guidelines of GSHNJ, GSUSA, ACA, and the New Jersey Youth Camp Standards.

Staff: Our camp staff is comprised of experienced college and high school students, teachers, and mature adults who have a special interest in working with girls in the outdoors. Camp staff participate in an intensive training focused on safety, communication, quality programming, leadership, and team building. All waterfront activities are supervised by certified lifeguards.

Health Care: A Health Supervisor is on site while camp is in session. Waterfront staff and most unit staff are certified in First Aid, CPR and AED. An AED machine is available at all times on each property.

Registration: This year, camp registration will take place online beginning on or before Monday, November 30, 2015. Girls must be registered members of GSUSA. To register a girl as a member, go to www.gshnj.org and click on Register in the top right-hand corner to create a membership account. After you are registered, click on the Camp tab.

Health History forms and required special program forms must be completed and sent back to the West Service Center by June 3, 2016.

From STEM to entrepreneurship, many of our summer camp programs will help girls learn key competencies of the 21st century. You’ll see these programs are indicated with fun icons. Registration Overview

Camp Lou Henry Hoover Resident CampWelcome to Camp Lou Henry Hoover Summer Camp, located in Middleville, NJ! Camp Hoover has been shaping great summer memories for girls in grades 1 to 12 since 1953 through learning, discovering, exploring, creating and overcoming challenges! Each summer, Camp Hoover provides a variety of programs and sessions designed to meet the interests of ALL girls.

Camp sessions run from July 10 through August 20. You are grouped according to interest, age and ability in order to make your stay more enjoyable. In addition to your program theme, you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of camp activities including crafts, nature, hiking, archery, ropes course, games, cook-outs and waterfront activities including swimming and boating. You will develop responsibility through “kapers” ( jobs that help keep Hoover in order) and other fun and enriching activities. Camp Hoover is a journey into independence – a place where you and your counselors plan weekly adventures together in a relaxed, non-competitive environment.

Hoover offers two experiences: General and Specialty. General Camp programs enable you to experience an array of camp activities every day. Specialty Camp programs focus on a particular interest combined with traditional camp activities like swimming, boating, hiking, cook-outs, crafts and games. Housing depends on the program you choose. You can share a large platform tent equipped with cots and a storage area. Just a few steps away from the tents are the lavatory facilities with flush toilets, hot and cold running water, sinks and showers. Indoor shelter is available during severe storms. The dining hall and program buildings are located within walking distance of the tent units. Based on your program selection you may also choose to stay in one of our camp buildings, equipped with kitchens, bathroom facilities, sleeping rooms with bunk beds, and a common room for gathering. Campers are welcome to stayover between sessions for an additional fee of $80. When registering your daughter, please select this option if needed. 4
