Dear Families,

Thank you for your interest in our Summer Resident Camp Programs. We are excited about all of the programs we are offering this summer, including some returning programs such as arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, cooking and archery. Your camper will experience the great outdoors in a safe, secure environment with trained staff. She will discover new things about herself and connect to the world around her.

We have three wonderful camps for you to choose from:

• Camp for All Seasons (CFAS), located on the west side of Tallahassee just off State Road 20.

• Camp Kolomoki, located west of DeFuniak Springs, north of Highway 90.

• Kugelman Campus, located in Lillian, Alabama on Perdido Bay.

All of our facilities have large meeting spaces with fully equipped commercial kitchens and dining areas where she will eat well-prepared meals, participate in programs in the evenings and during inclement weather. There are sporting fields, archery ranges, and horse stables. We have hiking trails, water activities, and much more at all locations. Our arts and crafts rooms, pools, and clinics are staffed with qualified personnel.

Register your daughter for camp and she will have the opportunity to discover new things and connect with girls from various backgrounds and locations. Allow her to discover the power of being a girl! Whether she is a returning or first time camper, we look forward to creating a second summer home for her at our camp.

Registration The camp registration form may be found at http://www.gscfp.org/resources.html. Please print and complete the form, indicating your first and second choices of the session(s) you would like for your daughter to attend. A second choice is requested in case the first choice is unavailable. Mail the completed registration form with payment for the chosen sessions and a non-refundable payment of $30 per session. Mail registration and minimum payment of $30 per session to GSCFP Attn: Camp, 250 Pinewood Drive, Tallahassee , FL 32303, or deliver to any of the three service centers, no later than May 10, 2013. The final camp payment is due no later than May 31, 2013, 5:00 p.m. local standard time. If the balance is not received on time, camp registration may be canceled without notice.

Cost of Camp Sessions ranging from $150-$400 are available to all girls who are entering first through twelfth grades in fall 2013. Non-Girl Scouts are required to pay an additional $12 membership fee.

Camp fees may be paid using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash, check, money order, and/or cookie/ nutty bucks. There is a $30 cancelation fee for each session.

Early Bird Discount Register and submit payment in full for camp by Friday, February 15, 2013, to receive a $25 discount on each session your camper is attending. The discount will not be applied to registrations received after 5:00 p.m. local standard time.

Cookie/ Nutty Bucks Cookie/ Nutty Bucks are great ways to pay for camp or use at the camp trading post. Simply include them with your registration form and indicate what you would like them to apply towards.

My child is not a registered Girl Scout All girls are welcome to attend our camps regardless of race, religion, color, national origin or socio-economic background. If a girl who is not a registered Girl Scout wishes to attend camp, the additional cost is $12 (the Girl Scout membership fee).

Campership/Financial Assistance We want to provide every girl who wants to go to camp the opportunity to do so. Partial campership/financial assistance is available to girls based on need and availability of funds. Camperships only cover a portion of the camp session fee. Campership/Financial Aid Applications must be received by April 26, 2013. All financial assistance requests will remain confidential.

How to apply: 1. Complete the Campership/Financial Aid Application in

this brochure for each session.

2. Mail or bring the camp registration form, financial aid application, first page of your most recent Federal income tax return and $30 per session down payment no later than April 26, 2013, to the service center nearest you.

3. After your registration is confirmed, the Campership/Financial Aid Application will be considered.

4. You will receive written notification if a campership has been granted and for the amount.

If a campership is not granted and, as a result, your daughter cannot attend camp, your down payment will be refunded, and no cancellation fee will be assessed.

Cancellation / Refund Policy

• Fees are refundable (except $30 cancellation fee & $12 non-Girl Scout Fee) if the council is notified in writing two (2) weeks before the session is scheduled to begin. Notification should be sent to the service center nearest you.

• For campers not attending due to illness, the camp fee (minus cancellation fee & non-Girl Scout Fee, applicable) will be refunded only with a doctor’s written note.

• Camp sessions may be cancelled due to low enrollment after confirmations have been mailed out. You will be notified of cancellation no later than May 14, 2013, and your daughter will be placed into a different week of camp of her choosing. If camp is cancelled by GSCFP and your daughter is unable to attend an alternate week of camp, the cancellation fee will be waived.

• Any refund or overpayment will be processed within two (2) weeks after the camp session ends.

How will I know if my child has been registered? Confirmation letters will be mailed or emailed to parents within one week of receiving your registration, along with additional important information. Please read the packet carefully.

Age-level /Grade Level

All camp weeks are scheduled by grade level and NOT by age. The grades listed are for fall 2013. Girl must have completed kindergarten and be at least 5 years of age.

Daisy—going into 1st grade

Brownie—going into 2nd or 3rd grade

Junior—going into 4th or 5th grade

Cadette—going into 6th, 7th or 8th grade

Senior—going into 9th or 10th grade

Ambassador—going into 11th or 12th grade

Camp Program Girls will participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience while at Summer Camp. Girls will discover the great outdoors, connect with their cabin mates to build lifelong friendships, and take action in a wide variety of activities from archery to arts and crafts, swimming to canoeing, and so much more! Through the camp experience, girls will develop positive values, healthy relationships, a strong sense of self, become resourceful problem solvers, and gain invaluable life skills by living and working in a team environment all while having FUN!

Earning Badges and Awards During activity sessions girls will be earning badges and/or journey awards appropriate to her age level. The awards girls will earn are located in the camp session descriptions. These may be part of the Girls Guide to Girl Scouting or a Journey. Because the activity sessions at camp can sometimes be quite varied girls will often work on several different badges at one time. Some follow up work may need to be completed at home. Please keep in mind the weather does have an impact on some activities, especially swimming and canoeing. Campers will receive the badges and/or journey awards they earn at camp during check-out.

Camp Activities Although a camper will register to attend a session based on a particular theme, she will also have the opportunity to participate in general camp activities. Some of these activities are canoeing, swimming, archery, arts and crafts, sailing, crazy games, hiking, dance parties, scavenger hunts, water relays, and so much more! Campers will also be given sessions each day for choice activities. This allows girls to participate in the activities that they love the most. All of the activities are supervised by qualified trained staff who are certified in First Aid and CPR.

Aquatics/Canoeing at Camp

If weather permits, swimming is offered daily as part of the camp program. Campers are evaluated on swimming abilities on opening day so staff can keep them safe in and around the water. Certified staff instructs and supervises girls at the pool and the lake. All campers must wear a Personal Flotation Device (provided by camp) while canoeing on the lake.

Camp Staff

Camp staff members are carefully selected for their skills, experience and maturity. We look for individuals with an ability to serve as role models and a genuine desire to work with children. All staff attends training which includes, but is not limited to, camp skills, Girl Scout programs, safety and emergency procedures and human development skills such as dealing with homesick campers, certification in First Aid and CPR, team building and age characteristics of girls. Staff supervising aquatic activities, horseback riding and archery are required to have additional specialized training.

Safety Standards

Your child’s health and safety are our top priorities. Each camp meets standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA and conforms to regulations of the State of Florida. Every night the main gate is locked. Local law enforcement patrol daily. Red Cross and Safety Activity Checkpoint regulations are observed during all activities including swimming and canoeing. Health and accident insurance covers all campers. This cost is included in the Girl Scout membership fee. Pre-existing illnesses or conditions are not covered. Camp is staffed by a Level II First Aider or nurse, and staff are First Aid/CPR certified. A local physician is on call at all times.

Medications

All medications are to be turned in at the Health Clinic upon your arrival at camp by the parent or guardian.

Campers will be assisted in taking medication only if the medication is in its original container, includes detailed written instructions, is prescribed for her by a physician, or is over the counter and approved by parent or guardian.

My child has special dietary needs

If your daughter has special dietary needs, please specify this on her health form AND registration form. You may need to reiterate any special needs to the camp director and/or camp nurse.

Physical Exam/Health Form

Each girl attending camp must provide a physical health examination form completed after May 1, 2012 .This form must be signed by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner. Proof of a current tetanus vaccination is recommended and a signed parent permission letter, which includes an emergency medical release statement is required. All forms are available in this brochure.

Health Check-In

Upon arrival at camp, your child will visit our Camp Health Administrator. At this time we will check her for head lice and check her temperature. If illness, head lice, or other health conditions are present, your child will not be admitted to camp until cleared by a primary physician. If recently treated for such conditions, a note from the treating physician should be brought to camp stating that the child is no longer contagious. During the check-in, you will need to discuss with the nurse/health administrator medical conditions, medicines or any other type of health problem that camp staff needs to be aware of. All medicines are given to the nurse in their original containers and will be kept with a nurse during camp. Medicine will be returned to parent/guardian once camp is over.

Camper Behavior

Camp life is an excellent opportunity for girls to live and work together. Camp is also a community of many people and certain standards of behavior are expected. The director and staff will do everything possible to help girls adjust to camp life. However, the Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle reserve the right to send home any girl who consistently misbehaves, willfully disobeys camp rules or

whose behavior towards others is unsafe or otherwise unacceptable. No refunds will be given for girls who are sent home due to behavior issues. The girl’s parent/guardian is responsible for picking her up from camp. 6

Camp Buddies

Going to camp with a buddy can make camp more fun, especially for first time campers! Two girls who wish to stay in the same cabin MUST list each other in the Camp Buddy section of the registration form and be in the same camp session. Every effort is made to place the camper with her requested Camp Buddy, although it cannot be guaranteed. Unit assignments are made by the camp director.

New 2013! Camper Email

Parents/Guardians are welcome to email your daughter at camp this summer. Emails may be sent to [email protected]. All emails received by 9pm EST/CDT will be delivered to the camper the following day during the camper’s rest time. When sending your camper an email please use the subject “camper letter.” In the heading of the email please include: camper’s and camp session name.

Arrival and Departure Times

All camp sessions begin on Sunday, with check-in between 3:00PM and 4:30PM (local standard time).

Camp pickup is between 3:00 and 4:30 pm (local standard time) on Friday, unless otherwise stated in your confirmation letter. If you have special needs, please contact the council office at 800-876-9704 or [email protected].

The penalty for picking up or dropping off campers more than 15 minutes late without prior notice is $15.

Trading Post

Our camp store, the Trading Post, allows campers to purchase t-shirts, patches, stationery, and other novelties. A credit in your child’s name enables her to make purchases at the Trading Post without the worry of handling money. A Trading Post credit may be left during camp check-in or may be pre-paid with the registration or fee balance. The average deposit is $20. Unused money will be returned to you when your child leaves camp. Cookie/ Nutty Bucks can also be used towards a Trading Post credit. Please do not pack cash in your camper’s bags or send cash in the mail.

Camp Sampler

It is recommended that every parent/guardian of every first-time resident camper attend one of the camp samplers. Parents/guardians will be given an orientation on how to prepare their child for a great summer experience, as well as take a tour of camp. All family members are invited to explore the camps and ask questions about the summer programs.

Camp For All Seasons has a beautiful lodge where many activities will take place, including meals. There is an arts and crafts room where the girls will explore their creative side. We have a swimming pool with a certified lifeguard. We also have a full time health administrator on staff. CFAS has a ball field, archery range, hiking trails, canoeing and more!

There are three types of living units at CFAS: Cabin style buildings, Pole huts, Screen huts

Each unit can sleep four to eight girls. There is also a unit house at each area with electricity, modern bathrooms and hot showers. Two Unit Leaders along with Counselors and Counselors-in-Training are housed at the Unit house. Adult staff do not sleep in the units with campers. Each Unit house has a recreation room, small kitchenette and a fireplace. This al-lows each unit a place for small group activities as well as a rainy day place.

Camp Kolomoki sits on 1,650 wooded acres in Walton County. The camp is located on West Highway 90 outside of De Funiak Springs, Florida on Girl Scout Road.

NEW this year is an in-ground swimming pool! There are beautiful grounds, a gorgeous lake, an air conditioned arts and crafts room and a lodge which doubles as a lunchroom and a recreation room with tables, chairs and a porch. There are hiking trails, horse trails, archery, game fields and so much more!

There are multiple types of living units at Camp Kolomoki: Cabin-style buildings (2 units), Platforms for tent camping (2 units)

The capacity of Camp Kolomoki is 120 girls plus staff. Each living area is equipped with a Unit House which has a fireplace, tables and chairs, a Kitchenette as well as a sleeping area for staff. Adult staff do not sleep in the same cabins with campers, but do stay in the same unit within close listening proximity.

Kugelman Campus has the best of both worlds. It is an air conditioned center that sits on Perdido Bay.

New this year is a technology zone! There is a swimming pool, hot showers, a dining area, kitchen, nurse’s living area and so much more. The center is a two-story dormitory style building with two to four beds per room.

Kugelman has many aquatic activities to offer, including swimming, sailing and sea-life studies. Please join us this year for our great summer program! 8

Fairy Tale Fun

Discover a world of enchantment in a forest not so far away. Use your imagination at a tea party fit for a fairy princess while you discover all the magic that camp has to offer. You will spend time in our forest enjoying games, arts and crafts, discovery hikes, making new friends, and of course a campfire!

Camp Chef

Cooking is fun when you make anything you want. Learn to read new outdoor recipes. Prepare dishes using different outdoor cooking techniques. Prepare one or two meals for your fellow campers to enjoy. Budget for a meal that you prepare. Are you ready to cook?

High Energy Exploration

Experience this high-energy fun packed week of High Adventure Girl Scouting. Become skilled in canoeing, backpacking, hiking, orienteering , Leave No Trace skills, and other outdoor activities. Venture around CFAS and travel off-site to other venues. Swimming, and arts and crafts will not be excluded.

Counselor In Training

Develop and polish your camping skills, and learn basic counselor techniques during this boot camp-like program. Learn about the age characteristics of children, study human relations, and learn how to teach songs and games. Spend time observing and working with younger campers. Increase your skills in camp activities. Spend time with the camp director’s team and learn more about the administration of camp in this boot camp-style leadership opportunity. This program is for girls who are serious about becoming camp counselors.

Wonders of Nature

The Tribe has spoken! Do you have what it takes to survive outdoors? You will learn how to create a fire without matches, build a shelter, and purify water. You will also learn about animal tracking, map and compass use, geocaching, wilderness first aid, night-time navigation, outdoor cooking and knife safety skills. Test your survival skills by competing in challenges that build confidence, self-reliance, trust and teamwork. Create lifelong alliances with friends and become the ultimate survivor

Just Camp

Back to the basics, this week is full of camp traditions. Whether you are a first time camper or returning you will enjoy trying everything from swimming to archery, canoeing to hiking, knot tying to scavenger hunts and more! But don't forget those S’mores!

Junior Snoops

Your Mission: Train to be the best secret agent at CFAS. Teams work together using special notebooks to record clues as they monitor suspects, make and break secret codes, uncover important secrets, interrogate persons of interest and hunt for a mole within your ranks. Enjoy collecting items for the week long scavenger hunt You will never forget this role-play adventure!

Moonlight Mayhem

Explore camp by night. Sleep out under the stars a couple of nights. Go on twilight hikes, stargaze, play flashlight tag, learn about nocturnal animals, throw a glow party, and have a late-night cookout. Learn how to use a telescope and a star map. Learn stories about constellations from different cultures. Record some of the stories using sequential art techniques. Learn about the planets and their moons. And of course you get to sleep in!

High Adventure

A high-energy fun packed week that will teach you survival skills. These skills will allow you to experience High Adventure Girl Scouting. Experience canoeing, backpacking, hiking, orienteering and Leave No Trace skills. This team will experience other various sports as they venture away from CFAS. All this along with swimming, and arts and crafts as well!

Reaction—Short and Sweet

Reaction is a three day teambuilding challenge to discover the secret of The Broken Lock based off the Brownie Quest Journey. Campers will be grouped into four divisions. The divisions will work through a series of hands on activities and science experiments in an attempt to solve the puzzle. Girls must react to twists, form unions with their counterparts, and ultimately open the lock. Reaction is about more than just the experiments of writing with invisible ink and creating lunch bag explosions. Reaction is about making new friends and keeping the old.

Teddy and Me—Short and Sweet

Build your very own teddy bear and give your bear a camp name. Bring your teddy bear with you everywhere you go, arts and crafts, meals, even let him ride in a canoe. Just Camp

Back to the basics, this week is full of camp traditions. Whether you are a first time camper or returning you will enjoy trying everything from swimming to archery, canoeing to hiking, knot tying to scavenger hunts and more! But don't forget those S’mores!

ImaginBotics

Stretch your imagination to the limit! Assemble your own robot that will actually turn in a different direction when it runs into an obstacle. Build a Doggy Robot that comes to life and moves with a motor you assemble. Build a hovercraft that floats and travels on a cushion of air. Make a solar powered lantern that will charge itself during the day and light up your room during the night.

Grade: 4th—12th Maximum Participants: 25

Develop your leadership skills through hands on experiences and group learning activities. Participate in team building games, skill building exercises, and group discussions. Learn how to provide the Girl Scout Leadership experience to youth at camp. Practice your outdoor wilderness skills including fire building and orienteering. Work with your CIT Director to plan the camp’s closing ceremony. There will also be plenty of time for all of the traditional camp activities including swimming and arts and crafts.

Water Wars

We’ll be keeping cool this summer with a week full of water competitions. Have you ever played dodge ball in the pool? Have you ever raced with a watermelon across the pool? We’ll have water relays, games of water tag, and water balloon fights. We’ll celebrate the end of the week with a dive in movie.


Awards: Respect Myself and Others (D), Honest and Fair (D), Fair Play (B), Making Games (B)


Cost: $300

Mission: Adventure

Head down to the training pits to sharpen your skills on archery, canoeing, and swimming. Then, make your way to the arena to use your skills in challenges to triumph in the mission. Earn awards for your district as you work your way through the trials. Become the mission victor and celebrate in a great feast with your district.

Architectural Design

Construct a life-size Angry Birds game, just to demolish when you’re ready for your next design concept. Create floor plans for rooms then turn them into reality by constructing model buildings. Try your hand at interior design while you turn your cabin into your home away from home. Work on a week-long project to create an architectural element for Kolomoki that may be enjoyed for years to come. Develop budgeting techniques as you plan your designs.

CSA Journey Retreat

The entire camp is reserved just for YOU, the Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors of the Florida Panhandle. Earn the It’s Your Story-Tell It Journey awards by creating a marketing plan for the future of the GSCFP summer camps. Cadettes will create a media alert and radio script, Seniors will create a television ad, and Ambassadors will create a promotional camp video. There will also be Gold Award Training Workshops. The rest of the week is up to YOU. Activity sessions are entirely Girl’s Choice, each morning you will sign up for the activities that interest you.

Troop Camp

This session is a chance for you to attend summer camp with your troop.

Grade: 1st—12th Maximum Participants: 40

Location and Date: Kugelman JUNE 9-14, 2013

Cost: $300 per girl / 1$100 per adult (1 adult per troop)

Bakery Wars

Indulge your taste buds with this delicious treat. Learn the techniques used to create bordered edges, attach icing flowers, and sculpt figurine people. Work with frosting, fondant, and gum paste. Decorate cookies, cakes, candies, cupcakes, even a summer gingerbread house! Budget for a dessert menu plan.

Digital Storytelling

Login at the technology zone and use the computer to write a story. Create your own clip art to bring your story to life. Send a snapshot of your story home as a postcard to your family.

Dancer

Do your feet start to tap when you hear a great song? Get ready to jump up and move to the beat. You’ll learn fun warm-ups, practice dances from past decades dating back to the 1920’s, perform new dances, even create a dance of your very own!

Media Technology

Explore the many styles of communication from television to cinema, radio to magazines, newspaper to online forums. Discover how media distorts the reality of the world around us. Work in the technology zone to create your own media advertisement. Modify photos, produce flyers, even edit short video clips.
