The Extraordinary Jubilee

Year of Mercy Prayer May The Lord Continue To Bless Us And Show Us His Mercy: Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the Heav-enly Father, and have told us that whoever sees You sees Him. Show us Your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magda-lene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Par-adise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that You spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God Who manifests His power above all by forgiveness and mercy: Let the Church be Your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that Your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,

Knights of Columbus Council #14773 A Reflection for September

Because the family is the root of society, we want our family to fulfill its vocation to build the common good.

The civilization of love evokes joy: joy, among other things, for the

fact that a man has come into the world (cf. Jn 16:21), and conse-quently because spouses have become parents. The civilization of love means “rejoicing in the right” (cf. 1 Cor 13:6). But a civilization inspired by a consumerist, anti-birth mentality is not and cannot ever be a civilization of love. If the family is so important for the civilization of love, it is because of the particular closeness and intensity of the bonds which come to be between persons and generations within the family. — St. John Paul II — Letter to Families, §13

A Reflection Question: How is the family the “root” of society?

How do families shape society and our communities?

Exposition/Adoration, Benediction - Wednesdays, 1830-1730, GSC

Eucharistic adoration is prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, whether or not the Eucha-rist is exposed. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is usually

characterized by silent prayer and may be done by individuals whose prayer can take many forms, from reciting the rosary to contemplation of the mystery of Christ present in the Eucha-rist. You can do any type of prayer you want. One type of adoration, Eucharistic exposition, is the ritual by which the Blessed Sacrament is displayed outside the taber-nacle in a monstrance or ciborium for public veneration by the faithful. It is a public celebration; the rite is proscribed by the Catholic Church and includes songs, prayers and readings “to direct the attention of the faithful to the worship of Christ the Lord,” according to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Venerable Fulton Sheen promoted meditative prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. “We become like that which we gaze upon,” he wrote. “Looking into a sunset the face takes on a golden glow. Looking at the Eucharistic Lord for an hour transforms the heart in a mysterious way.” Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta agreed. “The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth,” she said.

Catholic Community Question This week’s Question: “What is a ‘Holy Hour’?” The answer to last week’s Question: “What is the dis-tinction between Adoration and Veneration?” The distinc-tion between Adoration and Veneration is: Veneration given to saints (CCC, #823-829) is called dulia (see CCC, #957). Higher veneration given to Mary (CCC, #495, 501, 963-970) is called hyperdulia (see CCC, #971) and supreme worship or adoration due to God alone is called latria. (See the CCC references above for a more detailed explanation on differ-ences between Adoration and Veneration.)

Stewardship

“And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’” – LUKE 7:13

This verse is a great reminder that the Stewardship lifestyle is one of service, put- ting God first and to “love one anoth- er.” Unfortunate-ly today, many people have “passions” for activities they enjoy – their jobs, off-duty activities, etc. Many times our “passion” to excel is at the expense of someone else. Maybe, we need to fo-cus on a little less pas- sion for our indi-vidual concerns and a lot more compassion for others.

If you are a Christian, and you’re hurting, you have a Mother in Heaven, who loves you, and She wants to

comfort you – during your time of hurt! Not only did Jesus entrust His Mother, Who now sides at His right-hand-side, to The Apostle John, when He said “Behold your Mother!”, He entrusted Her to His Church, as well, — so that She could provide the comfort that only a mother can provide for her children, when they are hurt-ing. So, if you are hurting — ”Behold your Mother!” And, let Her provide the comfort you need, now or in the future! She LOVES you!
