SSI is a 17-year old, Dallas-based company specializing in providing all aspects of High Value Document Services (HVDS) to Fortune 1000 corporations. High Value Documents are defined as complex, variable communications that usually contain highly sensitive data. These types of communications require a completely different system of processing and production than is normally applied to printed and distributed documents.

Many of SSI’s projects have requirements that far exceed the standard level of services provided by most print or lettershop/fulfillment vendors. Flexibility is essential. Our customers don’t have the luxury of changing their process, or formatting their data to meet our needs. They have limited staff and legacy systems that are both stretched to the limit. SSI’s job is to take whatever we are given and make it work – period!

And that’s where our resourcefulness comes in. Time and again, we’ve been presented with projects that are seemingly impossible, or that have never been done before. Somehow, we always find a way. And along the way, we try make life as easy as possible for our customers.

SSI has focused on High Value Documents since its inception. As a result, we have developed a full system of HVDS services unique in this industry to ensure the highest level of accuracy in programming, printing and assembly.

Our focus on flexibility and accuracy is one of the reasons our client list includes FedEx, JPMorgan Chase, Dell, EDS, American Honda Motorcars (Acura and Honda), Exxon Mobil, TXU, and many others.

Inflexible deadlines and short timelines only add to the difficulty. Many of our clients’ communications have regulatory deadlines that cannot be changed, regardless of delays that occur. A vendor handling this type of work must be ready and capable to do whatever it takes to make the deadline.

SSI believes that a vendor must have the breadth and depth of thoroughly trained staff and high level equipment to allow them to adjust and accelerate a production schedule when necessary. Many of our employees have been with us more than 5 years, and several have over 10 years of tenure. We value, and our customers recognize the value of, the deep experience they have gathered over time.

SSI fully understands the sensitive and time-critical nature of most high-value communications, and these projects fit our business model and capabilities perfectly. SSI commits that all projects will be delivered with 100% accuracy on the agreed upon deadline, assuming that all information and components are delivered by the client in a timely fashion. If SSI feels we cannot make a requested mail or ship date, we will decline the project. If any job components are delayed, SSI still makes every effort to maintain the original mail/ship date, including working 24 hour shifts, 7 days per week when necessary.

Running high-speed laser printers during his post-college years launched Chris Mitchell on his career in the imaging and fulfillment industry. While selling laser printing for another company, he had trouble finding reliable fulfillment vendors to process his clients’ work. Chris learned first-hand how difficult it was to depend on data processing and fulfillment services from other vendors… the printing process was consistently pressured to make up for lost time and fulfillment errors.

In 1992, Chris started SSI so he could ensure time-sensitive delivery of quality fulfillment that his clients needed. SSI’s reputation – “if you want it done right and on time, hire SSI” – began attracting clients with complex, high-risk projects who had difficulty getting their work done successfully elsewhere.

So SSI truly began out of a need and desire to produce complicated, critical projects and a passionate commitment to quality and exceptional customer service.

Chris quickly saw that this type of work created an even bigger need for accurate and responsive data processing – the “front end” of the process. In fact, the quality of the data processing often directly affected the quality and effectiveness of the back-end fulfillment process.

Traditionally, this type of work was done on slow, cumbersome and expensive main frame computers. But the age of increasingly powerful personal computers was just beginning, and Chris became determined to take advantage of this flexible, affordable technology. So he recruited his long-time friend, Ginny Jackson, who had an extensive PC-based data processing background to add to the equation.

Data processing quickly became a significant part of SSI’s competitive advantage. Using new technology allowed SSI to be much more flexible (and much most cost-effective) than their competitors, a tradition that continues today. Huge corporations with giant IT departments (i.e. GTE, Cingular, ExxonMobil) would outsource quick-turn, complicated data work to SSI because SSI had the flexibility to program and produce output much faster and at much lower cost.

As SSI grew, the need to integrate all three functions – data processing, imaging, and fulfillment – became evident. In 1997, SSI included imaging in its operations and added Christy Robbins as Director of Operations.

SSI’s reputation for handling complex work quickly and accurately continued to grow, as did the company itself. In fact, SSI didn’t even have a salesman until 2004!

Today, SSI continues to emphasize its core values – accuracy, flexibility, and value pricing – while continuing to embrace technology for the benefit of their customers.

Electronic document processing – production, imaging, distribution, archiving, indexing and retrieval – is one of the newer technologies SSI offers. Our vast experience in data and document management and security transfers especially well to the electronic world, and allows us to avoid many of the mistakes newer “electronic only” vendors. Plus, because we can handle both hard-copy and electronic communication and processing, SSI provides a single-source, total solution, regardless of the method of delivery. This give s our clients much greater flexibility in selecting and/or combining communication methodologies, a flexibility they appreciate greatly.
