GSA GYM CHALLENGE CIRCUIT NO 1
GSA Gym For All Challenge Circuit
Challenge Circuit 1 This is a two staged program of activity circuits that are intended to provide a bridge between any “one session per week” recreational gymnastic class and a formal Gym For All or Artistics gymnastic competitive program. This program is for both boys and girls – teams may be mixed. This program involves four DMP based activity circuits:
1. STATICS 2. SPRING AND LANDING 3. ROTATION 4. SWING
This program has aimed to include activities that are relevant to a recreational program and that can easily be included in a variety of recreational gymnastic circuits. It is also aimed to target activities that are fundamental to the development of higher-level gymnastics. All of the activities will lead to the first or the Artistic or Club levels of competition. Finally, the program has aimed at an approach that remains fun and fast moving for an age range that may not be ready for the structure, discipline and repetitiveness of competition preparation. This program is in its own stage of development and will readily be modified if good reasons for such modification become apparent in its application. Feedback from all participants is welcomed. The Challenge program will provide a transition into the formality of competition for our younger potentials. The event will be a genuine competition as such but should not provide a daunting atmosphere for the children. It should also be an easy environment for clubs not experienced in the protocols of formal competitions. SCORING: Each of the circuits has five activities that, in an event, should each be done in sequence – much the same as in a formal routine. Each activity will receive a score out of ten based on competency and the five scores for the circuit will be averaged to provide the final score for that circuit. Gymnastics SA would like to acknowledge the conception of this program by Gymnastics WA and Paul Szyjko and thank them for their assistance in this area. We hope that this approach to gymnastics finds a receptive audience as we believe that not only can it be good for gymnastics, those who follow it will themselves benefit in the many ways possible from the sound development of skill patterns.
