GLOBAL DATA SYNCHRONIZATION DEFINED

• Data synchronization is the electronic transfer of standardized

product and entity information between trading partners and the

continuous synchronization of that data over time

• Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) is the key to product information:

– Brand name and product descriptions

– Ingredients, allergens, nutrients

– Product labeling, certifications, organic

• Global Location Number (GLN) can include:

– Brand Owner

– Manufacturer

14

The USDA Food Connect Website can capture 107 product attributes for a single

item. Of these 107, GDSN currently accommodates 91 of them.

DATA FLOW VIA THE GLOBAL DATA

SYNCHRONIZATION NETWORK, GDSN

15

Data Pools provide data that is

standards conformant, and

interoperable in the GDSN. The data

pool performs the transactions of

sending and receiving validated

product information between partners

inside or outside the data pool.

Step 1: Load Data

•Select one data pool as a

SINGLE point of entry to the GDSN.

GS1 Global Registry:

A single repository where basic

data is registered – identifies the

data pool location of source data

Step 3: Subscription Request

Step 4: Publish Data

Step 2: Register Data

Step 5: Recipient Confirmation
