Hall of Fame Member

Nancy Hillesheim

Nancy became a 4-H leader for the Peppy Pixies Club in 1979 and continued on until 1983. Even though she was no longer a leader, she continued to be an active part of the club that later became known as the Jolly Blue Bells. Nancy has many in-terests and talents in the sewing, baking, and overall concepts of the 4-H program that she was able to share with youth. Her leadership role did not end there, as she has been the secretary of the Big Four Fair for over the last thirty years. Nancy’s family has always been inclusive and sup-portive of her role as a leader. Each year brings new challenges, but the values that began with 4-H continue to be passed through the genera-tions. Congratulations Nancy!

you notes to those that sponsored awards.

Summer Camp Recap

Throughout this past summer there were several

camps that 4-Hers could attend. A recap is listed

below.

Regional 4-H Summer Camps (Pine Bluff)

Fifteen 4-H’ers from Chickasaw County participated in

the Regional 4-H Pine Bluff Camps learning more

about water and rockets. Camp projects and outside

activities were developed with the themes of Dive to

New Depths and Reach for the Stars.

Farm Fun at the Fair

Thirteen youth participated in a fun-filled day where

they learned about animals that were exhibited at the

fair. These campers learned the importance of pro-

tecting honey bees as well. A fun activity that was

planned included creating a farm out of food.

Summer Camp reCap Continued….

Dive to New Depths

A small group of 4-Hers participated in a fun day

where water safety was the topic. Youth created their

own boats out of aluminum foil and a contest was

held to see how many paper clips their boats could

hold. Thank you to those who also helped pick up

branches after a severe rain storm happened in the

area.

Art in Nature

Kindergarten to 3rd grade youth participated in this

fun-filled day to learn about nature, and used pieces of

nature to create artwork. The campers also learned

about bees and how they play an important role in

nature.

On Their Own & OK

Thirteen youth participated in the day camp “On their

Own and OK”. The youth learned about first aid & safe-

ty skills, dealing with siblings, understanding feelings,

snacks & activities. Camp concluded with a parent

showcase from 6-7 PM.

Calling All Shutterbugs

Youth were able to learn basic tips and tricks about

photography at the Calling all Shutterbugs day camp.

Many of these youth were able to showcase their work

at the fair all while doing a local service project.

Iowa 4-H Youth Conference Dive to New Depths 4-H Conference and

Animal Science Round Up

On June 28-30th, Tristen Langreck, Alexus Ball,

Nicole Ball, and Caitlin Tiedt participated in the

Iowa 4-H youth conference. At this conference

they learned about campus life, how to be suc-

cessful, and learning better ways to serve the

community and school.
