Make 4-H visible in our community during

National 4-H Week October 1-7

What can your club do to promote it?

Plan a special club event for recruiting young people in

your community.

Have a poster contest in your club – Post them in com-

munity businesses or public areas.

Ask each member to bring a guest to your next

meeting.

Need a fund-raising project? Do it during National 4-H

Week.

Volunteer to tell about 4-H in church or a classroom.

Make banners with catchy slogans to put in your com-

munity.

Brainstorm other ideas at your upcoming club

Wear your 4-H shirts this week and show your 4-H

pride.

Club Leadership Change?

If leadership changes have happened or are anticipated in your club, please notify the Extension Office immediately. ISU policy requires all new 4-H volun-teers and staff to be screened through the process outlined in its Child Protection & Safety Policy. Fail-ure to follow this process could make the leaders and ISU Extension negli-gent. The Child Protection and Safety Policy help to en-sure a safe learning environment for all 4-H youth, (and it is relatively painless for leaders!). Also, please let us know of any changes within your club, such as an activity leader taking on more responsibilities by becoming a general/ organizational leader.

Teen Council Invitation Are you interested in becoming a member of the teen council? If

you will be a high school student this fall, and have a desire to

learn more about leadership, you’re invited! The teen council is

responsible for 4-H Awards Night, planning county-wide 4-H

events, conducting activities at the county fair, and most im-

portantly, serving as a line of communication between Extension

staff and 4-H clubs. If you’re interested in becoming a teen

council representative, contact the extension office.

Record Keeping

Record Books are not required in Lee County, however we encourage 4-Her’s to complete them!!!

Philosophy of 4-H Record Keeping

The purpose of 4-H record keeping is to teach how to keep records, which is an important life skill. Record keeping is an ongoing

process that does not end when the 4-H year ends. Youth are encouraged to select from a variety of alternatives to meet their

individual record keeping needs and learning styles. The following forms (see below) are available in the Extension Office or

online at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/lee/content/4-h-record-keeping-information. The forms available through the web-

site are set up to be typed into and then printed for clean and legible records!

Each Record Book Should Have:

Cover sheet that includes name, grade, age, club, project list, and a current picture for this year. This should be the first

page in the record book and each year you will add the newest one on top.

Yearly 4-H Summary (form 4-H-96). This form includes all 4-H activities and involvement from the year. It lists club

meetings, county activities, workshops, school activities, etc.

Project Records. These are different for each age division. For every non-livestock project there should be one of the fol-

lowing: a) Basic Project Record (4H-96A for Juniors), b) Experienced Project Record (4H-96B for Intermediates), c) Advanced

Project Record (4H-96C for Seniors). This is also the place to include the 4-H Exhibit Form (your fair write-up) and any pic-

tures. Photography has its own Project Worksheet (4H 643-WS)

Livestock Records. All found on http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/livestock/

Market Animals (beef, meat goat, sheep swine) 4H-228 for jrs or 4H-228WS for int/srs

Breeding Animals (beef, meat goat, sheep swine) 4H-229 for jrs or 4H-229WS for int/srs

Horse & Pony 4H-512WS

Poultry 4-H Poultry Project Worksheet

Rabbit 4-H Rabbit Project Worksheet

HAPPY RECORD KEEPING!!!
