Introduction to Level II Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints

God created fruit trees to grow and bear fruit (Genesis 1:11-29; 2:9). Likewise, God wants Christians to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and bear spiritual fruit (John 15:7-16, II Peter 3:18). The essence of spiritual growth and bearing fruit is discovered in the great commission of our Savior (John 14:21-23; 15:10-14, Matthew 28:18-20).

Before our Lord Jesus ascended to Heaven, He left His followers some very important instructions. These instructions are known as the great commission and are found in Matthew 28:19-20. Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20 There are three parts to the great commission of Jesus Christ:

1. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,” is the first part. Here the word teach is translated from the New Testament Greek word μαθητευσατε. This is the second person plural first aorist active imperative of μαθητευω as recorded in the Textus Receptus (Greek New Testament). The word means to teach in such a way as to make disciples. The first thing we must teach is to repent and believe the gospel (Matthew 4:17, Mark 1:14-15). Thus, we must first share the gospel and bring souls to salvation in Jesus Christ (Acts 14:21-22, Romans 1:15-17; 10:9-15).

2. “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” is the second part. Baptizing means to immerse in water (see study #12). After souls are saved, they must be baptized by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:41; 8:37-39; 16:30-34).

3. “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:” is the third part. It is extremely important that we understand the context of Matthew 28:20.

Jesus was speaking to His disciples (Matthew 28:16). Therefore, the “all things whatsoever I have commanded you,” in verse twenty refers to the commands Jesus gave His disciples during His earthly ministry (the New Testament commands of Jesus Christ). Without a doubt, the third part of the great commission of Jesus Christ is often the most neglected in Bible-believing, fundamental churches. In obedience to our Savior, level two will focus on the New Testament commands of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:20). However, before you study the New Testament commands of Jesus, you must prepare your heart to seek the Lord (I Samuel 7:3, II Chronicles 12:14; 19:3; 30:19, Psalm 119:112). This involves prayerfully diagnosing your current heart condition. The usage of the word heart in study #13 is not referring to the physical heart. Rather, we are speaking of the innermost center of your mental and spiritual life.

by Nolan McFadden Text: Matthew 13:10-23 Now that you are saved, it is certain that God is doing a very special work in your life. You are being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28-29). This means that God is desiring to shape your thought life, attitudes and actions to reflect his Son (Philippians 2:5). Conforming to Jesus Christ involves a heart willing to turn from the old, sinful ways in order to pursue spiritual growth and a wonderful transformation in Christ (Romans 12:1-2). As you conform your thought life, attitudes and habits to God’s Word-the Bible, you will be conforming to Jesus Christ (John 14:15; 17:6-10). Therefore, how you respond to Bible teaching is extremely important. Which response to the Scriptures is that which Jesus wants for your life? A. After hearing God’s Word, I refuse to believe it (Luke 8:12).

B. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to receive it joyfully as the truth. However, in time, I will not continue in God’s Word because of offense, persecution or tribulation. C. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to set it aside in order to pursue that which is more important to me. I choose to make the priority of my life a preoccupation with the worries, riches, status symbols and pleasures of this life. D. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to receive it in my heart (Ezekiel 3:10, Psalm 119:11). By God’s grace, I choose to obey and continue in God’s Word and bear spiritual fruit in my life with patience (Luke 8:15).

According to the New Testament, the correct answer is D. There are four kinds of people in Christ’s parable of the sower. The seed is God’s Word-the Scriptures (Luke 18:11-12, John 10:35). Each kind of person represented in the parable responds to God’s Word on the basis of that which is in his or her heart (Matthew 13:15). Thus, there are four kinds of heart conditions presented in this parable (Matthew 13:14-15). What are they? I. The sin-hardened heart of unbelief (Matthew 13:19, Luke 8:12).

A. This kind of person cannot understand God’s Word because of a sin-darkened, hard heart (Matthew 13:15, Mark 3:4-5, Romans 1:21-22; 2:50, Hebrews 4:2). B. People with this heart condition might attend a Bible study once or twice out of curiosity. However, their hearts are not open to the truth so they do not return (Acts 16:14, Hebrews 4:2). C. “Those by the wayside are they that _____________; then cometh the ______________, and ___________________ away the word out of their __________________, lest they should __________________ and be __________________.” Luke 8:12

D. What is the result of this heart condition according to Luke 8:12? ______________ _____________________________________________________________________

II. The pretending heart without commitment to Jesus (Matthew 13:20-21, Luke 8:13).

A. This kind of person receives with joy God’s Word as truth in his or her mind. However, when the time comes to prove his profession of faith in Jesus by continuing in God’s Word in spite of offense, tribulation or persecution, he departs (Matthew 13:21, Luke 8:13). B. These people did not lose their salvation. They never had the salvation of the Bible (Matthew 7:20-21, John 10:27, I Corinthians 15:2). In reality, these people never really knew Jesus nor did He dwell in their hearts (Matthew 7:23, Romans 8:9-10, Titus 1:16). Their professions of faith in Jesus for salvation were false (John 6:64-69, II Corinthians 11:26, I John 2:4). Their hearts are not sincere. These are the people who play church. To them, Christianity is merely a family tradition and/or a cultural obligation. C. An excellent example of this is found in John 6:64-69. Many were attracted to Jesus because of His miracles but they rejected His message. What is your motive for following Jesus? Are you following Jesus for material gain like those in John 6:26-27? Are you coming to Jesus only because you want to see spectacular miracles and signs like those in Matthew 12:28-39? OR Is it the desire of your heart to follow Jesus as the Lord and Master of your life? D. “In journeyings ______________, in perils of _________________, in perils of ___________________, in perils by mine own _________________________, in perils by the _________________, in perils in the ____________, in perils in the ____________________, in perils in the __________, in perils among ______________ ___________________;” II Corinthians 11:26 E. According to the last part of II Corinthians 11:26, Paul faced, “perils among f______________ b_____________________” during His ministry. F. III. The heart devoted to material things (Matthew 13:22, Luke 8:14).

A. This kind of person is preoccupied with obtaining material status symbols. They are consumed with the worries, riches and pleasures of this life. See Matthew 13:22 and Luke 18:14. These people are usually not satisfied or content with what God has provided (I Timothy 6:8-10). B. These are people with the wrong priorities in their lives (Colossians 3:2). They lack the simple faith to give God first place in their lives and to trust Him to provide the necessities of this life (Matthew 6:33). C. These people serve material gain as the Master of their lives (Matthew 6:24, Mark 8:33-38). D. “No man can _______________ two ____________________: for either he will _____________ the one, and ____________ the other; or else he will hold to the one, and __________________ the other. Ye cannot serve ___________ and _____________________.” Matthew 6:24 E. IV. The good and sincere heart (Matthew 5:8; 13:23, Luke 8:15). A. These people choose to follow Jesus and obey His Word regardless of the cost (Luke 8:1-3,15). B. These believers prove their professions of faith in Jesus by continuing in God’s Word (Luke 8:15, John 8:31-32; 10:27). C. These people have spiritual fruit in their lives (Luke 8:15). The fruit of the Holy Spirit is seen in their lives (Galations 5:22-24). They want to share God’s Word and bring souls to Jesus (John 2:40-46; 4:39, Acts 8:4). D. These people have hearts that are open and teachable for God’s Word (Psalm 119:11, Ezekiel 3:10, Acts 2:41; 16:14; 17:11, James 1:21-22). E. “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and ________________________ of naughtiness, and receive with ______________________ the engrafted _______________, which is able to _____________ your souls. “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” Luke 9:23-24

What does it mean to follow Jesus Christ according to the New Testament? How can you follow the Savior here on earth while He is in Heaven? What did Jesus mean when He said “let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,…”? These are important questions for us to understand. According to the New Testament Scriptures, five things are needed to truly follow Jesus Christ: I. First, you must be born again of God’s Spirit (John 1:12-13; 3:3-7).

A. Being born again is the entryway into God’s kingdom. It is the first step in truly following Jesus Christ according to the New Testament. “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be ______________ again, he cannot __________ the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 B. Tragically, many in our time are trying to follow Jesus according to their own rules in place of following Jesus Christ according to the New Testament Scriptures. However, our Lord Jesus said in John 14:15, “If ye ______________ me, _______________ my commandments.” It is the command of our Savior that you repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15, Matthew 4:17). C. “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might ______________ the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, ____________ is the work of ___________, that ye __________________ on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:28-29

II. Give your life to Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:24, Romans 12:1, I Corinthians 6:20).

A. The moment that you get saved, your body, mind and spirit become the property of Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 6:19-20). Yet, you have the responsibility of choosing to yield these to Him moment by moment, day by day (Romans 6:13, I Corinthians 6:20). A. In Luke 9:23 Jesus set forth two necessary commitments to follow Him. They are “let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily.” Denying self is the opposite of selfism and selfishness. To deny self refers to choosing to not allow “self” to be the master of your life. Rather, you must allow Jesus Christ to direct your life instead of self and sin (Romans 6:11, I Corinthians 6:19-20). In addition, the Roman cross was a symbol of death and reproach at the time Jesus was speaking in Luke 9:23. Thus, to “take up his cross daily” means to die to sin and self each day and be willing to daily bear any reproach of identifying yourself as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #15

by Nolan McFadden “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 Seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness requires establishing biblical priorities in your life. God created us to function within a God-ordained order of priorities (Psalm 50:23, Matthew 6:33, Ephesians 5:22-33, Colossians1:18, Titus 2:4-5). God’s order of priorities is discovered in the Bible (Matthew 4:4). Living outside a God-ordained order of priorities creates miserable conditions (Proverbs 1:23-33, Psalm 9:17). Tragically, having a wrong set of priorities has caused unnecessary spiritual, emotional, marriage and family problems for many. Let us take a look at common orders of priority as they so often develop in our lives. According to the Bible, which order of life priorities correctly fits God’s design? A. Family first, friends second, work or education third, recreation fourth, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word fifth. B. Jesus Christ and obeying His Word first, family second, friends third, work or education fourth, recreation fifth. C. Work or education first, family second, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word third, friends fourth, recreation fifth. D. Work or education first, recreation second, family third, friends fourth, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word fifth. According to the Scriptures, the correct answer is B. What is your order of priorities? As a Christian, you must purpose to establish biblical priorities for your life. However, before you are able to establish a biblical order of priorities, you must first decide who or what is going to be the Lord-Master of your life (Matthew 6:24). Since God’s will for our lives is found in God’s Word-the Bible, let us look at what God’s Word teaches about priorities. I. Jesus Christ and obeying His Word must take first place in your life (Matthew 6:33; 10:37, Luke 10:39, Revelation 2:4-5).

A. An excellent example of establishing the right priorities is found in Luke 10:39-42. Mary made her first priority spending time with Jesus Christ and listening to His Word (Luke 10:39, 42). Jesus → Jesus Christ commended Mary’s decision as, “the good part” in Luke 10:42. Why? Mary’s life priorities were righteous from God’s perspective. B. However, Luke 10:39-42 also reveals that Martha had the wrong priorities in her life from God’s perspective. Martha’s work was more important to her than spending time with Jesus Christ and His Word. Notice Martha’s comments in Luke 10:40-41. Martha’s comments demonstrated her spiritual problems. She had wrong priorities. Her heart was not right with God. Martha had not yet submitted to Jesus as the Lord-Master of her life. Notice that Martha even dishonored the Lord Jesus by ordering Him to make Mary help her in Luke 10:40. Jesus gently rebuked Martha for the wrong

preoccupations of her heart in Luke 10:41-42. Jesus Christ directed Martha to the correct priority in Luke 10:42.

C. What was Mary’s priority in Luke 10:39? _______________________________ D. What was most important to Martha as evidenced in Luke 10:40? ___________ E. According to Luke 10:42, was Mary’s priority a choice? Yes / No

F. Application of Luke 10:39-42: Spending time each day with Jesus in prayer and Bible-reading must be made the priority of the day. G. A personal evaluation: Circle which is most important to you. II. Putting family, friends, work, education, money, recreation or yourself before Jesus Christ and obeying His Word in your order of priorities is disobedience to God (Matthew 4:10; 6:24-33; 10:37-38; 16:23-26; 18:20, Luke 6:46-47; 8:21, Colossians 3:1-2).

A. If you choose to honor and serve Jesus Christ in your life, the Lord Jesus will honor you (John 12:26). B. If you choose to be the Lord-Master of your life in place of Jesus, you will reap the consequences of your decision (Proverbs 1:31; 14:12-14, Galatians 6:6-7). C. “He that _________________ father or mother _____________ than me is not worthy of _______: and he that __________________ son or daughter ____________ than me is _________ worthy of me.” Matthew 10:37 D. According to Jesus, who is to take first place in our lives as indicated in Matthew 10:37? ____________________________________________________________

III. Putting anything before the Lord Jesus and obeying His Word, makes it an idol in your heart (Matthew 4:10, John 14:15, I John 5:21, Revelation 2:4).

A. According to the Scriptures, God hates the sin of idolatry (I Samuel 2:29, Ezekiel 14:6-8, Ephesians 5:5, Colossians 3:5-6, I Corinthians 10:13-14). B. Today, many people have made the priority of their lives making money. Having money is not a sin. However, if having money becomes the first priority in your life, you have become a servant to material gain. When one of these: your money, job, education, family, recreation (sports, hunting, camping), come before God, it becomes your god. You will always spend time seeking, defending and worshipping your “god” or the true and living God.

C. What must we not serve as recorded in Matthew 6:24? ______________________ D. IV. The right testimony before your family, friends or employer is to make Jesus Christ and obeying His Word the first priority in your life (Matthew 6:33; 10:38, Luke 10:39-42, Revelation 2:4).

A. The biblical order of priorities is Jesus Christ and obeying His Word first, your spouse second, your children third, relatives and friends fourth, work or education fifth, and recreation sixth (Matthew 6:33; 10:37-38, Luke 10:39-42, Ephesians 5:22-33, Titus 2:4-5). Above all else, your supreme allegiance must be to Jesus Christ and obeying His Word (Matthew 10:37, Revelation 2:4-5). B. Having a biblical order of priorities in no way diminishes your Christian responsibility to do quality work for your employer. Rather, the quality of your work should be an excellent testimony for Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:22-24). Colossians 3:23 exhorts, “And whatsoever ye d______, do it h__________________, as to the L____________, and not unto m___________.” C. As a Christian, there will be times when your commitment to living according to biblical priorities will be tested. For example, what will you do if family or friends want you to do something during the time of church services? What is God’s command in Hebrews 10:25? _______________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ The best testimony for Jesus Christ in this situation is to provide three better alternatives:

1. Invite them to go with you to church services. 2. If they will not go to church with you, tell them you would be glad to visit with them after church services. 3. If they refuse both previous alternatives, tell them you would like to reschedule the visit for a different time.

Your response in this situation is an opportunity for you to provide a clear witness to others. Explain that obeying Jesus Christ and spending time in His Word is the first priority in your life. Otherwise, your testimony to them is that they are more important to you than obeying Jesus Christ and spending time in His Word. D. The central issue regarding your order of priorities is clear: who or what is going to be the Lord-Master of your life? Choose and circle one. It will calm your spirit and cultivate a heart of thankfulness to God.

As names and needs increase, divide the list into smaller portions for each day. For example, pray for one portion of the list on Monday, the next portion on Tuesday and so forth. I. Record your answers to prayers next to the request. Using a notebook is a good idea. You will want to thank and praise the Lord as you record answers to prayers. Remember to thank and praise the Lord for what He shows you from His Word daily.

Also, remember God is not a puppet whom you manipulate with your petitions. God always answers prayers according to His marvelous will (Ephesians 1:11).

For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38. Giving is an important part of the Christian life. It is based on the nature of God. John 3:16 records, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” What does the Bible teach us about giving? I. The motive of giving should be love (John 3:16, I Corinthians 13:3, II Corinthians 8:8, Ephesians 5:25, I John 3:16-18).

Under the Old Testament law, the Hebrews were required to give a tithe (10% of their goods) to the Lord’s work (Leviticus 27:30-34, Deuteronomy 14:22-23, II Chronicles 31:4-11). Also, before the Mosaic covenant was given, Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:18-20). As New Testament believers, living during the age of grace, we should be willing to give more than 10% to God’s work. In fact, there are examples in the New Testament where believers sacrificially gave far beyond 10% to the Lord’s work and to others in need. God commended this in Luke 19:8-9 and II Corinthians 8:1-5.

D. Praise the Lord for believers who sacrificially give to the Lord’s work in order to make up for the lack of giving of irresponsible believers. E. “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38. “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:39 The command of Jesus Christ is to love your neighbor. Yet, what does it mean to love your neighbor? Who is your neighbor? How can you express Christ’s love to your neighbor? Let us consider seven important aspects of loving your neighbor. I. What is love?

A. Unsaved people often base love on feelings, lust or sex. This is a false definition of the word love. True love is not a temporary state or condition. B. In the Bible, love is based on the attribute of God (I John 4:7-8). Love defined: Love is caring for someone as God cares for you. It is expressed in righteous actions and righteous attitudes. Therefore, loving your neighbor is a choice. C. For example, Jesus declared in John 3:16, “For God so ________________ the world, that he _______________ his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not ________________, but _____________ everlasting life.”

The word neighbor means all who live near you, your community. In fact, in Luke 10:29-37 the Lord Jesus seems to broaden the definition of the term neighbor to refer to whoever is in need of your help.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” Matthew 5:44 How is it possible to love your enemies? Love is a choice. Yet, loving an enemy runs against human nature. However, it is certain that Jesus Christ would never command you to do that which you are not able to do by His grace. Let us consider four ways to express love toward enemies. I. Bless your enemy when he or she curses you (Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:27-28, Romans 12:14).

A. When your enemy falsely accuses you or curses you, say, “Bless you,” or “May God bless you.” Why? It demonstrates that you are a new creature in Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). B. by Nolan McFadden Text: Matthew 18:21-35 “Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?” Matthew 18:33.

It is the command of our Savior to forgive others (Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37). Yet, what does it mean to forgive? How are we to practice this command? Let’s consider what the Bible teaches about forgiveness. I. What is forgiveness?

A. In Matthew chapter 18, the word forgive is translated from the Koine Greek word αφιηυι. It means to cancel, send away or disregard the debt that another owes you. B. God is the model of how to forgive. In the Bible, you learn that each of us has a sin debt that you are unable to pay (Romans 3:23; 5:12; 6:23). Jesus was without sin (Hebrews 4:15, I Peter 2:22). Jesus chose to go to the cross to die as our substitute, in order to pay in full your sin debt to God (II Corinthians 5:21, I Peter 2:24, 3:18). Jesus rose from the dead three days later

(I Corinthians 15:3-4). Because Jesus purchased your salvation on the cross, you are able to receive it as a free gift from God (Romans 3:22-28; 4:23-25; 5:1-19; 6:23; 10:9-13, Galatians 2-3). The moment that you repent and receive God’s gift of salvation, God cancels your sin debt in full (Romans 3:24-26; 4:25; 5:8-11, Colossians 2:13, I John 1:7-9, 2:2). You do not deserve to be forgiven. Yet, our heavenly Father sent His Son to become the atoning sacrifice for your sins. Why? God loves you and desires that you receive His abundant mercy and forgiveness (John 3:16-17, Romans 5:8). Therefore, looking to God as the model, forgiveness is a choice and an act of love. C. Consider the example of our Savior. As Jesus was hanging on the cross in extreme pain and agony, He asked God the Father to forgive those who had crucified Him (See Luke 23:34). This act of mercy was truly beyond human understanding (Ephesians 3:19). D. Forgiveness must be from your heart (Matthew 18:35). When you choose to forgive from your heart, you will not continue to hold resentment toward the person who has wronged you. E. Therefore, biblical forgiveness is manifested in two ways:

1. Choose not to repay another for the wrong that he or she has done against you. 2. Choose not to hold resentment against a person who has wronged you. F. “Then said Jesus, Father, ________________ them; for they _______________ not what they _______. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” Luke 23:34.

II. Why should you forgive others?

A. To forgive those who have wronged you is the command of your Savior (Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37). If you truly love the Lord Jesus, you will keep this command (John 14.15).

B. Do you want God to forgive your sins? Yes / No You cannot receive forgiveness of your sins from God if you refuse to forgive others who have sinned against you (Matthew 6:14-15, Mark 11:25-26). C. Do you have resentment toward someone? Yes / No Are you choosing not to forgive for a wrong that has been done against you? Yes / No If your answer is yes to either one of these questions, you must repent of your bitterness and unforgiving spirit (Proverbs 28:13, II Timothy 2:19). D. Ask God to help you. As a Christian, God has forgiven you a much larger sin debt than any wrong that another has done against you (Ephesians 4:32-5:1). Those who have need of forgiveness must also forgive (Matthew 18:32-33). E. If you have sinned against someone, you need to go and ask for forgiveness from that person according to Matthew 18:21-23. Refusing to do this will hinder your relationship with God (Psalm 66:18, Isaiah 59:1-2). F. “And be ye ______________ one to another, tenderhearted, __________________ one another, even _______ God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven ___________.” Ephesians 4:32.

III. What are the blessings of forgiving others?

A. Choosing to forgive will free you from enslavement to bitterness and resentment (John 8:34). B. If you choose to forgive, you will experience the healing effects of inner peace, love, joy, gentleness and kindness within your spirit (Genesis 50:15-22, Galatians 5:16-26). C. Choosing to forgive allows God’s character to be developed in you. Notice the words “even as” in Ephesians 4:32. D. Choosing to forgive brings spiritual growth for a Christian because you are yielding to your new nature in Christ Jesus (Colossians 3:8-13).

E. Choosing to forgive conforms your ways to God’s ways (Ephesians 4:32-5:1, Psalm 119:5). F. Choosing to forgive often restores harmony in relationships. Many times refusal to forgive is the cause of broken relationships (Hebrews 12:15). G. Choosing to forgive demonstrates true Christian love toward the one who has wronged you (Ephesians 4:32-5:2, Colossians 3:13-14).

H. Choosing to forgive is an action that pleases God (John 14:21). I. Choosing to forgive prevents others from being defiled with your bitterness and resentment (Hebrews 12:15, Matthew 5:16).

Fear Not! Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #24

by Nolan McFadden “But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7. The Bible teaches us that in the last days perilous times shall come (II Timothy 3:1). We are warned that there will be a time of “falling away” (apostasy) among professing Christians before the second coming of the Lord Jesus (II Thessalonians 2:3). This will be accompanied by the rise of numerous false teachers who will deceive many with “signs and wonders” (Matthew 24:11, Mark 13:22, II Timothy 4:1-4, Revelation 13:13-14). In addition, prophecies in the Scriptures point to the establishing of an ecumenical global religion and a global government system which will serve the agenda of the antichrist in the last days (Daniel 7:23-24, Revelation 13:7; 17:18). Yet, in the midst of these troubled times, we are exhorted by our Lord Jesus to fear not. Let’s consider some reasons from the Bible why Christians should not be discouraged or fearful about the days ahead. I. You have a Heavenly Father who loves you and cares for your needs (Matthew 6:8-33; 10:28-31, Romans 8:28-39, II Corinthians 9:6-8).

A. In our time, many fear enemies, war, loss of work, no food, illness and bad weather. Yet, God is fully in control of all events in the universe and is fulfilling His plan (Isaiah 46:9-10, Acts 17:26, Ephesians 1:11).
